Thanks notalama, glad you like them!

And also thanks for sharing that, rotor attachment technique, will have to do some testing.

It has been such a long time since I got a chance to play with SAM, but I think naming SAM docking sites is done in the custom data of either the SAM PB or the connectors of the station/mothership?

P.S - thanks for your excellent designs! Big fan of this one and the quarry miner I've also been using :)

I had a hell of a time with the rotor part - the first time I did it I backed the ship into a large rotor part that I'd built into an armor pillar, then attached it. That worked pretty smoothly.

Then I activated PAM instead of SAM and flew into a mountain, and needed to re-attach it, and for some reason couldn't get it to work again. It would look exactly the same as the first time, but when I hit Attach the ship would explode.

I eventually figured out that the simplest way was to bolt a connector to the nose, park the ship on a vertically-orientated connector (so it could start fuelling while I worked) and drop rotor heads on it from a height. The connector keeps it at a lovely 90 degree angle and it turns out you don't have to be super precise with your aim - as long as Tab A is roughly in Slot B, hitting Attach should work.

Now if I could only figure out how to name sites for SAM to make choosing them easier :Owlcat_sleepless:

Ah. Interesting method.

@Kaito, glad you're still having a good time with the ISL ships!

@Conbadicus, yes there is a bit of trick to it, take a look at this 1min video: https://youtu.be/D6tBV3pPC7k?list=PLnZS2js6aEaqimQ-XXEbx_LDVrgRY801n

(they also have a nice list of quick SE tips on their channel 😁)

I cant seem to place the large grid ore detector even with the advanced rotor on the back, i've removed the head and replaced it several times but it keeps defaulting to small grid. Any idea what might be the issue ?

We made it back alive. Squatina was fast enough that we could just run away. It lives to survey another day :)

Oh and @Chorolate Pudding

Even though I printed the Squatina with the subgrid plugin, I'm an idiot and managed to detach the rotor head, so I had to put it back on. I tried just moving it with a tug, but it refused to attach, so I had to build a new attachment from scratch.

The way I did was to make sure I was in ample space (because we all know that rotots like to jerk grids around when attaching), tilt the ship 90 degrees down (great thrust layout, this was way easy, good job Spite) and then drop a big rotor head on it from above. Took a few tries, because it kept bouncing off. Then hit attach (and brace for Clang's anger) and you're good.

Keep me in the loop if you need some testing of an armed Hercules. My current world is perfect to make it suffer and see how much of it makes it back home.

It only came out recently, but I hope it motivates Keen to finally make that a vanilla feature
Chocolate Pudding01 24 Apr, 2021 @ 7:42am
@Kaito

where has that mod been all my play time?
Spite  [author] 24 Apr, 2021 @ 7:36am
Fair enough, that one is already on the list!
Kaito 24 Apr, 2021 @ 7:12am
I'm not sure. I actually did very few modifications to this one. A few more cameras, that's it. I quite like it. It's small and relatively cheap.

I think if I want something with a large ore detector that can actually fight a bit, I'd rather see a Hostile Space version of the Hercules.

Good luck Kaito!

Do you think I should also put a more heavily armed and armoured version on my to build list?
Kaito 23 Apr, 2021 @ 11:31am
Just as a side note, the life without subgrids is over, if you can use plugins: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2415983416

Here I was thinking that I need a small cheap-ish ship, with a large ore detector bolted on somewhere, to take a trip to the Corrupt/Reaver infested Moon to see if I can find any Gold deposits. I spent a couple hours thinking about how to approach it, and then I came across this.

_Of course_ Spite has made one already that's way better than anything I could come up with in a couple days.

I'll let you know whether it survives.

So, I'm having many problems trying to apply a large detector to this ship. (stuff keeps snapping around, exploding, or the detector refuses to become a ship (button is greyed out))

Suggestions?
Spite  [author] 17 Oct, 2020 @ 2:17pm
Ok, and then did you try to build it using a projector?
VoyagerZ_ 17 Oct, 2020 @ 12:49pm
I justed subscribed to the post and it added the blueprint to my game
Spite  [author] 10 Oct, 2020 @ 10:53pm
Ok, how were you trying to install it?
VoyagerZ_ 10 Oct, 2020 @ 5:44pm
Dude, this looked so cool, I couldn't NOT install it.
