It's not a big deal, only visual.
With Biotech, Almost all TerrainDef got a <pollutionOverlayTexturePath>, but the 2 roads seems to have been forgotten, so the pollution was not shows on them. I only fixed that.
(it's said in changelog, not only comments)
Thundercraft 10 Dec, 2022 @ 3:51pm
Quote, "I added the pollution overlay for Biotech, it's missing for road, but I think it looks better with it."

Could you elaborate a bit on what this means?

This is just a mod that makes vanilla packed dirt build-able, right? Are you saying that, for the Biotech update, you changed packed dirt to now be visible on the pollution overlay? (If so, shouldn't this be mentioned in the mod description. After all, any comment can easily get buried below newer comments and then get overlooked or forgotten.)

Any plans to update to 1.4?
MooningBunnies 10 Aug, 2022 @ 11:03am
Thank you for the quick response :) I was looking for one that is slower. Will check it out!
Yoann [author] 10 Aug, 2022 @ 2:57am
It's vanilla value, I don't edit the walk speed. Faster than no floor, but slower than a true floor, something like 92% if I remember.
MooningBunnies 10 Aug, 2022 @ 12:27am
Could I know the walk speed?
MSJ-06II-C 28 May, 2022 @ 11:01am
Roger, will do
Yoann [author] 28 May, 2022 @ 10:02am
I don't have the skill to add options.
If you want the sand be packable, you can patch it, watch my patch and reproduce for sand, easy ;)
MSJ-06II-C 28 May, 2022 @ 8:27am
Is there an option that allows me to place dirt on all forms of floor? I spawned in a desert that has a pre-generated dirt road running along the map but the sand does not allow dirt-packing
Viper 18 Sep, 2021 @ 3:57pm
thanks Yoann. still using this mod!
Yoann [author] 10 Aug, 2021 @ 9:48am
If you really have no mod about biome/map generation, maybe sometime the game generate packet dirt in a bad way, I can't do nothing for this.

The patch is done for VGP Garden Tools, see description.
Jinks 10 Aug, 2021 @ 8:50am
I have no other mod that deals with packed dirt and I confirmed that it is in fact vanilla packed dirt.
The cell has under=null so it's not really a surprise I can't remove it. It would leave a hole in the world. (Placed packed dirt has under=soil).

Tillable Soil basically allows you to place soil anywhere, but I already patched that myself.
VGP Garden Tools has different levels of research to replace different grounds and requires a (cheap) resource to do so. Consequently it has 4 or 5 different defNames that need patching...
Yoann [author] 9 Aug, 2021 @ 7:41am
@Jinks
For your first issue, it's probably caused by another mod. Use debug mod to correct as Jovian Pug said.

For the use with mods, theses mods allow to build a copy of vanilla dirt. If theses copy are based on vanilla dirt, load my mod first is enough. if not, they need a patch to add the "PackableSoil"affordance.

If it's not (cheaty) mod who allow to build soils everywhere without any cost, I'm okay to make the patchs, only send mods links.
Jinks 9 Aug, 2021 @ 6:08am
I seem to have the same problem as Jovian Pug. I can only remove packed dirt that I placed myself. - Note: I installed this mod after generating the map in question, could that be the cause?

Also, I can't pack soil placed by other mods like VGP Garden Tools or Tillable Soil (both let you place vanilla dirt). How would I go about adding them to the packable list?

@Yoann Thanks!
Yoann [author] 16 Jul, 2021 @ 7:18am
Quickly tested in 1.3 without finding any issue :)
Jiopaba 12 Jul, 2021 @ 3:05pm
After using this across two playthroughs I wanted to come back and say that for being so incredibly simple this is one of my favorite mods ever. Yeah it's on a different scale than huge content mods and such, but as soon as I added this to my game I found I used it extensively. I draw paths between places, I use packed dirt to stop plants growing in areas I don't want them, I use it to create fire breaks across my map so it can't all burn down... I genuinely love this mod, it's fantastic.

Thanks for making it!
wooley2000 15 Jun, 2021 @ 11:18am
@Yoann I found the guilty culprit, it seems the Ancient Structures Mod https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2177808043 adds a option to craft the packed dirt also and is supposed to allow me to remove it. I will be contacting that author to see if they can fix it or remove it altogether so I can use your mod. Sorry I bothered you and I should have looked more deeply at my mod list. Thank you for your help anyway;)
Yoann [author] 15 Jun, 2021 @ 4:10am
Hi Wooley,
Sorry, but I haven't the knowledge to help you.
I looked your log file, but can't see which mod conflit with.
Have you tried to move my mod in your modlist?
Have you searched about PacketDirt in your mods folder?

If you only want to remove the dirt roads, maybe you can only use dev mod? (don't remember if it allow it)
wooley2000 15 Jun, 2021 @ 3:26am
@Yoann Hi, I seem to be getting an error when I add this mod to my modlist. I was looking for a mod that allows me to remove the dirt roads and yours is exactly what I was looking for. Im not sure which mod is conflicting, I dont have any installed that change the dirt I think. Anyway I will link a copy of my log file here and maybe it helps you and me. Thanks for your time;) https://gist.github.com/3f005f115581d90e5e92ee52743077ac
Yoann [author] 13 Jun, 2021 @ 6:08am
Hi Teres,

When you subscribe a mod, you download the files in a Steam folder. So you can copy/paste them to the "manual instal" folder without issue if you need.
teres_draconis 12 Jun, 2021 @ 6:31pm
P.S.
I am posting this note on every mod I use that doesn't have a obvious link already. As quite a few mods I like are made by the same authors, you might have gotten this on another mod you made. If so, I apologize. I am not attempting to spam, just to make sure that I don't miss any of the mods I want.

P.P.S Anyone who wants to complain to Steam to change this "feature" helps my cause. I realize that Steam is providing mod access for free, and can therefor set its rules the way it wants, but if it doesn't know how many people are even mildly annoyed by this, it doesn't have the data to properly judge if it is worth changing it's behavior.
teres_draconis 12 Jun, 2021 @ 6:31pm
I am on a Rimworld kick, and am playing it almost every day. I have been traveling a lot, and have more traveling to do in the coming months, and not everywhere I want to play has good internet access (including on a plane). I noticed last month that I can only play my subscribed mods if I am connected to the internet when I first load Rimworld, and if I change my modlist in the middle, they all just disappear. I talked to Steam, and apparently *this is deliberate*. While there is absolutely a place to install mods manually, anything that is downloaded via subscription is temporary, and only available when online.

I *like* this mod. I *use* this mod. I do not see a place to download it directly. If it does not offend your sense of loyalty to Steam (or any other senses, for that matter), would you please post a link so that I may download it for use even in offline mode?

Teres D.

Idk, removed most of my mods, and it's not working properly which is totally strange, as I cant find difference between two tiles :( Even if I get in to debugmode I can only see the same type :(

Anyways I removed that packed dirt with debugmode and now I can use your glorious mod, thank you bro! :)
Orangubara 24 Mar, 2021 @ 10:33am
But I'll download that mod which shows what mod it is to be 100% sure :)
Orangubara 24 Mar, 2021 @ 10:32am
I'm not using too much modes, So it should be fine with that, but I just read your discussion with Viper, and tbh I can't find any of that in my save file O.o
Yoann [author] 24 Mar, 2021 @ 10:30am
If the packed dirt you try to remove was generated by the vanilla game, you should be able to remove it.
Please, check your others mods.
Orangubara 24 Mar, 2021 @ 10:23am
Oh I can only remove dirt I placed myself, but I cannot do that with packed dirt I had on map since start :(
Orangubara 24 Mar, 2021 @ 10:22am
Hmmm weird I cannot remove packed dirt, am I doing something wrong?
Orangubara 24 Mar, 2021 @ 9:32am
Yes :D this seams to be everything I need :) I only wanted to remove Patched dirt - didnt want to get 69 new soil types and 20 reaserches in to game :)
Yoann [author] 8 Jan, 2021 @ 2:00am
Nice :)
Looks like my guess was wrong, the other mod would have overwritten the vanilla packed dirt (or patch it), so my patch has been applied without issue.

Good game to you!
Viper 7 Jan, 2021 @ 3:11pm
Good news: it appears to have overwritten with your Packed Dirt (I loaded your mod very late in my huge mod list). Worked out great. I can tell it's your Packed Dirt because the tooltip exists; the Packed Dirt I had before was sans any tooltip.
Yoann [author] 7 Jan, 2021 @ 11:27am
Ok
If ever, another way to find the mod is to search and open all .xml files from your Rimworld Workshop folder with notepad++ or other, and make a "search in all" for "PackedDirt".
Viper 7 Jan, 2021 @ 10:57am
yes, i have that mod, it's called "What's That Mod?" or something, it's indeed very nice! unfortunately, for whatever reason, there is a select small handful of things in the game which if fails to give a reading for - even vanilla stuff is labelled "Core" - and the Packed Dirt I have is one of them.

Ah well, I'll give it a try in my next savegame regardless, maybe i'll get lucky. I guess I'll probably just end up with a duplicate Packed Dirt and i'll have to figure out which is removeable and which isn't.

Anyway, thanks!
Yoann [author] 7 Jan, 2021 @ 10:15am
My guess is the packed dirt flooring you built, from another mod, is a copy of the vanilla packed dirt, so my mod will don't patch this copy.

But if you find which mod add the packed dirt, it's not so hard to make a little patch.
Also, if I don't mistake, there is a mod who is made to tell you "from which mod this thing come", but I don't remember the name.
Viper 7 Jan, 2021 @ 8:49am
Yoann can you clarify something... I have about 500 mods so I have a hard time figuring out where things come from sometimes. I have this Packed Dirt flooring option already buildable, but I have no idea which mod already enabled it. My problem is that it's a non-removable flooring (permanent).

Is THIS the mod I need? Can I add your mod near the end of my modlist and my already-enabled Packed Dirt will become removeable? Or would that be wishful thinking?
Melancholy 14 Dec, 2020 @ 8:59am
yes thank you very much i must have done something wrong i got it to work now
Yoann [author] 14 Dec, 2020 @ 6:22am
The affordance needed is
PackableSoil
, and not
Packable
.

If you patch correctly AB with my mod, and load it after AB, it's should be okay I think.
Another way would be to merge the 2 mods if it's really "weird mod interactions".

Good luck ;)
Melancholy 14 Dec, 2020 @ 2:57am
I've been trying to make some of alpha biomes terrain packable by adding
Packable
to them but if i load this mod before AB then it gets ignored and if i put it below AB i can't build packed dirt anymore.
I know this is a long shot bc "weird mod interaction" but any idea what i do wrong?
Yoann [author] 1 Dec, 2020 @ 1:11am
Yes, it's the packed dirt from the natural roads, not a copy. So builded by the player or generated by the game, you can remove it.
Maybe have you another mod who conflict...
Dog_Charlie_92 26 Oct, 2020 @ 9:43am
noice
PUR3ICE 20 Oct, 2020 @ 12:08pm
Thats a good mod
LoggerC4 17 Oct, 2020 @ 5:03pm
Thanks, love this for the fact that it doesn't add/change any unnecessary things.
