So much the best that it was the first to get screwed on release day for being deemed too easy and empty. Brave New World certainly fixed the endgame, making it interesting... but it's still a simple and empty game. Civ5 is the beginning of the series' downfall, bringing it into the mainstream of casual gaming.
The last good (and best) is Civ4, which is incidentally the most complex, complete, and difficult game in the series (in addition to having the best mods and a futuristic vanilla phase).
Final
The AI difficulty rises a bit, but not enough to make immortal more difficult than vanilla Deity, the handicap difference is enormous.
Chu Ko Nu can't fire twice though but whatever at this point.
The mod doesn't change how aggressive is a civ or how diplomacy works. Barbarian raids is a feature of the game.
The best way to keep you out of wars is to have a decent army, even if you don't plan to use it, the disuading factor is huge. If you beeline to buildings while having almost no army, other civs are more likely to declare on you, even if you try to keep them pleased with friendly actions.
Again, I didn't touch diplomacy. If you feel AI is more aggressive is a secondary effect of being more efficient in their internal decissions.
In every game I play, the AI now declares war on me quite early (I play on Emperor, so the AI shouldn't be that aggressive).
Even if it isn't ready and doesnt have 'Honor'. One time two AIs declared war on me simultaniously, one didn't even attack me and the other send 3 warriors, which I of course defended easily.
After a while I make peace and 50 rounds later they both declare war on me again, even though i was friendly with one civ and traded, and I defeat them quite easily again.
So the AI wasn't any smarter, just more aggressive.
Also barbarians now regulary leave their camps undefended and attack civs instead. This has two effects: 1. I have to deal with much more barbarians attacking my cities, like I'm playing with 'raging barbarians' on and i can easily clean up there camps with a scout. Often i came upon an undefended camp with my scout accidentily and could just clear it with no problem.
Again the AI is more aggressive, but not smarter.
City-States now move their units beyond their borders for no apparent reason. They place the units near my border to scout like an actual civ. This is confusing and in war times they block yields and limit my ability to move my units.
One time my capital was pilaged by barbarian units, because I only had one unit to defend and couldnt defeat the camp. Then a city-state that was like 10 yields away, send over an archer and involuntarily helped me to fight off the barbarians and kill the camp.
This is nonsensical and not how city-staes are supposed to act. They are supposed to be passive entities and not act like one-city-civilizations.
Maybe the mod is actually good in making the AI use their late-game-units more efficiently and enhance AI naval warfare, but for me it's just not worth the rest.
Btw. thanks for fixing a bug that prevented AI academies. I removed the bulb-ability of scientists and as a result, the AI could build academies. Without your Smart AI mod scientists would simply do nothing and just stand around.
So I changed my mind now. I actually like using your mod.
First of all the AI almost never declares war, even when they have a huge army.
Maybe that problem is caused by other mods I am using, but once I have unsubscribed from the Smart AI mod, the AI started wars much more frequently.
I have also noticed that AI barbarians will leave their camps much easier with this mod, making their camps vulnerable.
Of course there are also benefits from the Smart AI mod, but for me the negative ones have been too important, unfortunately.
Personally I don't have problems with AI not making settlers, if anything, they do it more consistently and I have more mods than this mod, might be mod conflicts on their end or some file issue.
Also tested to see if my AI ally would actually do anything with the gold I gave them and to see them buy a warrior, a worker (which more often than not they didn't) and buy an alliance with a City State was a fresh of air for me lol.
In short, mod works as intended for me and I would recommend it tons. (Barring any mod conflicts/file issues from the user's side.)
P.S. Have a ''Take My Points'' award. :D

makes AI quite challenging during the whole game. ;)
I can understand that if they don't like me they would rather take more than they give but this is ridiculous. They might be losing money but won't accept just money for a comodity they have surplus of.
AI should play more diplotmatic in general unless in direct conflict
