I have the custom setting with no visual restrictions, not defensive only, and works for allies. I've read that before because I've been trying to get this mod working for a while. I've looked at the script and while it has 1 for the major as attacker and as defender, the custom major factions routinely lose and get wiped out. As I previously commented:

@oujosh29 it there are a set of conditions also IF it will even do this. Was the faction an Ally, did you set any options?

Last content update for Rome 2 was August 2018, Rise of Republic DLC, and later a few ,minor bugs and balance patches, none of which would impact this mod. Game dev on rome 2 stopped in late 2018. Only update to game was in 2023 to fix exe to work on current gen cpus. That does not impact mods.

So unless the mod itself is was already buggy its fine and up todate. The launcher saying out of date is inaccurate. It's purely date based checking, not mod content vs game content updates.

No, it doesn't work. I posted proof already. I can also tell multiple battles aren't registered by the mod and dont show up on the log.

This mod still works. I looked through the script and there is nothing wrong with it. It does not need to be updated.

The mod does not guarantee that the major faction will win every battle against a minor, it just adds some additional weight to a major faction's likelihood of winning the auto-resolved battle.

I have confirmed this myself by modifying the script to give me (the player) the same auto resolve bonus and compared the same auto-resolved battle with and without the mod active. Without the mod the battle would be a decisive defeat, with the mod the battle would be a close victory.

But even with the mod active if I send just my general up against a full 20 stack army I will lose the battle.

I have also tested adjusting the mod to give an even bigger bonus to me in battles and that works as well. So if you are not happy with major factions losing against minor ones in any scenario I would have a go at updated the script to give a bigger bonus.

If the author ever does check this and just thinks we're wrong, here's an example. Please fix this mod, the idea is so awesome.

Yup, unfortunately this great mod no longer works. I can't find any similar mods either so I'm afraid we're out of luck.

After more testing, this mod does not work. Major factions lose repeatedly to minor factions. Try it yourself but don't get your hopes up.

Does not work with confederated factions. Which I think is because the old faction changes name and variable after confederation? Anyone knows how to edit to include confederations?

Update: I used a Quick safe 1 turn before the game crashing aaaaand :

Fixed it, I'll just use the Settings.txt without the faction.txt . Another problem I have right now is that my game crashed due to a battle between bactria and a slave revolt. It is the last thing happening before the crash, any recommodations?

Somehow I can't use the settings.txt file anymore. A week or so ago it worked just fine. I tried to use the factions.txt file, after that it seems to not work entirely. the log says:

As of 01-25-23, this mod seems to work more often than not, but it isn't consistent. With a custom list of major factions of Rome and the Seleucids, in one playthrough they dominated into big empires. The next one, again with the custom list, Rome lost about half the battles and the Seleucids got annihalated by Pergamon. I checked the log.txt file and it showed Rome and Seleucid as major factions vs minor factions, but they still lost.


So even if you do all the custom settings correctly (I checked multiple times to make sure), the autoresolve still seems hit or miss. If possible maybe make the auto resolve to be a guaranteed win for the custom major factions.

So The mod works for me but I am unsure of hot to change the setting to DefensiveBattlesOnly. Do I put it in the pack file of the mod or do I place it in the main campaign folder? I tried both and created a new file in the campaign folder "settings.text" and placed DefensiveBattlesOnly there but it does not work when I load the game. Any help would be appreciated.

This mod 100% works for me with no other major mods active. Seen some post of people saying it doesnt work but it does.

This mod doesn't work, for me at least. Playing as Rome I noticed two games in a row Libya destroying Carthage within the first 30 turns. I haven''t messed with any settings and I only have the traits mod and AAA mods installed.

This mod still works, they just have to follow the setup instructions well, those who complain is sure to be why.

In the comments you can find someone who explains well how they should write the .txt and settings.

The only problem with this mod is that it crashes the game on the campaign map a few times, perhaps, because it modifies LUA files which is where the camera is also handled and since the mod is already old, it needs updating.

I hope someone knows how to do it, I have tried without success, but I assure you that it works.

i tried the mod in grand campaign with setting so that it only works for rome, it doesn't seem to work for them(rome) against other major factions even so those(other playable factions) don't get buffs against minor factions

I tried 20+ campaigns with a custom faction list of Carthage, rome, suebi, seleucid, and sparta. I also gave just these factions 15k gold per turn plus Rome and Carthage increased garrisons. In these campaigns, Carthage was always wrecked by Syracuse, Rome struggled to get out of italy, seleucid was routinely destroyed by random factions, sparta barely left their starting area and suebi managed to become a major empire twice.

So as far as I can tell, this mod doesn't work. Or at least the advantage given to the "major factions" is so small it doesn't have a meaningful impact. I checked the log and it would show the correct custom "major factions", but would also show them losing to a minor faction.

I encounter a problem: I tried 3 campaigns with the Seleucids and Rome is beaten by the Etrusques quite early in the game. I play with Radious, is there a compatibility problem ?

Maybe i am lucky boys but my game actual Avgvstvs C. the about 10th faction still alive on the map are the factions i expected as Ptolemaic Empire or Anthony's Rome or Pontus and so on .. just Numidia and dumonii are still alive between minors:)

Need something like this for my campaign. Every time I play rome, the Boii, Saba, and Pergamon Blob into hyper mega empires and the game gets super stale early on.

guys this mod still works just ran it parthia did not die. and sub beat boi carthage was beaten bye rome. I think if you all major factions did not die. unless it was form a major faction. dam this mod best in the whole game I say. I put myn at the top of my load order. maby that helps
