The other way is to sell all of the affected (and connected) pieces, then replace them. It seems like a lot more work, but it can be faster and easier than fixing misaligned pieces.
Raven, Relysa's right, my walls don't have any squish leeway (I love that description! :D). Their size is exactly 25cm wide and the box colider is the same. With no leeway, the pieces can't be placed beside each other if they're not aligned perfectly, however if something causes even one piece to move out of alignment, it results in a domino affect throughout all connected pieces. Gaps will appear and it won't look like a smooth wall. Which fits your description. Moving or selling a piece after it's been placed, or something falling on a piece, can cause it.
(splitting comment due to length)
i mean no disrespect either, and i did take a screenshot i could show you perhaps
The movement is a known issue that's related to the game's physics system, I've stabilised my walls as much as I can and they don't move for me, however they do still move for some players. The only tip I can offer is to make sure that you place the wall pieces exactly where you want them as it's when you move or sell them that they affect anything touching them.
on paper, i love this. but in reality its a mess, they tap eachother and go everywhere and dont fit by like half an inch of a gap
1m lengths of brick blocks have now been added to the workshop. They're categorised as fences so hopefully they'll be stable enough to not cause problems despite being stackable.
No, it's more of a height thing. What was happening with my over-door piece was that it was staying on ground level even when there was a paver under it. So the top of it was never going higher than 2.75m. The other pieces were sitting correctly on top of pavers, so they ended up being higher and it looked very odd. The only way to keep them all at the same level was to build on the ground instead. It sounds like your roof isn't working like that though, which is great!
I'm about to release an addition to the brick series that will (hopefully) make it easier to build my 2.75m walls up to 3m.
I made my modular doorways because someone pointed out that my over-door pieces were too low. It turns out that items lifted up in the air will always sit on the ground, even if there's a paver under them. So they were the right height only when the walls around them were built on the ground. Hopefully your roofs won't be affected by that.
A bit of good news for you, however, is that all of my brick and log wall items can have a row of single blocks added on top to bring them up to the 3m height you need, so there are already 4 sets of building objects that can work with your roof. I hope that helps :)
I agree, outside walls would be wonderful. The Luxury DLC is coming out in May so who knows, maybe we'll get something in that.
I do think your window builder is going to be instrumental in this. I built or tried to build a window but it isn't very easy to use. So your idea of making a modular window is perfect for when players actually get to use this.
