Because it has so much weight it needs to move

Stupid Steam won't let me download it and i have a vehicle i am building that needs this engine :steamsad:

Amazing looking engine and runs really smoothly.

This may be a question for White Noise instead, but once I'm underway, the propellor initially get's good RPM, and I'm getting maybe around 10-12 m/s, before it slowly winds back down to 4.5 m/s after a few seconds. I've noticed that it stays around 20 degrees so wondering what I need to change so that it may run a little hotter, but I get more performance out of it?

Cheers for the build!

Yes, you have to control the clutch yourself.
Braveheart 24 May, 2022 @ 4:49am
I found the problem, the clutch is not connected to any logic nodes.
Braveheart 20 May, 2022 @ 12:50pm
Hmm, the engine turns on and throttles up properly, but there seems to be something funky going on at the gearbox, connected propeller wont turn no matter what, tried it on the ship im building and also tried it with just the engine on land. Same result, maybe something in the latest broke it ?

is two of these overkill for a 100,000 mass ship
lucakrowinkel 4 Jun, 2021 @ 2:15pm
I meant Helicopter of course* :p
lucakrowinkel 4 Jun, 2021 @ 2:11pm
Well, Alright. It may be impractical in Stormworks but I've got no choice. :p
I need to push 16,9 Million liters and the ship around it over 250 kilometers (arctic and back).
Right now I have 2 x 80 cylinders set up in rows of 4. It is working pretty well except of course that is a giant eyesore.

Btw I looked through your workshop items, Really love your engines and planes. Really good work.
Also if you do decide to build an engine that size, I can't buy you a Fika, (I personally find Patreon to be a horrible company) but I can gift you the boom boom DLC when it comes out. :p
Kahrstrom  [author] 4 Jun, 2021 @ 1:37pm
Thank you! 20-30 cylinders would be both unrealistic and impractical in Stormworks, but I've been thinking about doing some V-configuration engines or something like that with the 5x5 size cylinders, which would then have a few more cylinders than this one.
lucakrowinkel 3 Jun, 2021 @ 1:25am
It's beautiful.
Have you thought about making a larger version of it? Something with 20-30 cylinders?
Kahrstrom  [author] 11 May, 2021 @ 6:37am
Have you connected fuel, air and exhaust ports?
Kitty Cat 2 10 May, 2021 @ 2:31pm
the engine wont turn on do you know why?
:steamsad:
Kahrstrom  [author] 6 May, 2021 @ 12:19pm
Thanks! Good to hear people are enjoying these.

This really is a work of art! Thanks for sharing. Now I need a ship big enough to fit this... :-)
Kahrstrom  [author] 27 Mar, 2021 @ 3:04am
Well, it's quite a large engine and it obviously needs air, but I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work as well as any other diesel engine in a submarine as long as you can fit it :)
just a random strider 26 Mar, 2021 @ 8:01pm
does it work with a submarine
Kahrstrom  [author] 25 Mar, 2021 @ 2:14pm
Thanks, I appreciate it!
puipuix 25 Mar, 2021 @ 1:49pm
Nice work btw
Kahrstrom  [author] 25 Mar, 2021 @ 1:34pm
Yeah, actually had separate exhausts for this one, forgot about that hahah. Made too many engines. It's been updated now anyways, got one cat after each exhaust.
puipuix 25 Mar, 2021 @ 1:31pm
They can still use the same pipes and port, from my test it only need 1 cata after the exaust to work fine
Kahrstrom  [author] 25 Mar, 2021 @ 1:03am
Hmm, that does mean having independent exhaust manifolds for each cylinder though... I'll look into it.
puipuix 24 Mar, 2021 @ 4:11pm
The best is to have 1 cata after each exaust manifold so 1 per cylinder ;)
Kahrstrom  [author] 24 Mar, 2021 @ 3:01pm
Hmm, interesting input. Didn't know that the exhaust could become such a bottleneck, haven't experimented all too much with modulars with little details like that. You simply put cats before the exhaust port then I suppose? It's only taking exhaust out of one of the cylinders, but it's evenly split between them ofc, as they're connected. Will take a look at it tomorrow anyways. Thanks for the report!
puipuix 24 Mar, 2021 @ 1:40pm
I test it, it's not very powerfull as it have an exaust problem (only 2-3 cylinder are used). Adding some catalytic converter will fix it. (1100 Generator output vs 2500 with converter)
Kahrstrom  [author] 24 Mar, 2021 @ 12:43am
I did not. It depends a lot on the gearing and whatnot, so it would be a bit tricky to make it a reliable method of testing. Could be worth a shot, but idk...
puipuix 23 Mar, 2021 @ 4:45pm
Did you test how many power it can produce (generator output) ?
Kahrstrom  [author] 22 Mar, 2021 @ 8:11am
I'm kind of leaning towards that, and perhaps some 1x1 engines as well. We'll see ;) Thanks for the support!
Flammable 22 Mar, 2021 @ 3:02am
would next came inline 3x3 engines in market? Love your creations continue to expand the collection of engines
Kahrstrom  [author] 21 Mar, 2021 @ 10:52am
Sounds like a perfect solution! Larger ships tend to have at least one generator as well as the main engine(s).
AndreaUSMC 21 Mar, 2021 @ 10:33am
i think i need two of this in my tanker but i put they direct to the propeller and a smaller generator :steamhappy::steamhappy:
Staalby 21 Mar, 2021 @ 12:49am
Ah, well hopefully they will get around to it.
Kahrstrom  [author] 20 Mar, 2021 @ 4:29pm
Won't work very well in SW I'm afraid :/ No way to get the torque measurement in a good way afaik
Kahrstrom  [author] 19 Mar, 2021 @ 4:03pm
Thank you! You could perhaps use generators to compare output or similar, but it's hard to have a reliable method to compare power that is independent of gearing. Best way really is to simply test in your creation.
fuchs85ch 19 Mar, 2021 @ 4:00pm
Your engines look amazing... I would not have the patience to design something like this.
The style is reallycool. However We would need somthing to compare this engines like the tooltip should show us horsepower or kilowatt?
Cause how would we otherwise compare these engines?
