Hello. Checking in again to see if this mod has been updated for the latest version.
SinCityOTR 26 Aug, 2024 @ 10:46am
This apparently will be out of obsolete when the next dlc drops so nobody be salty if he doesnt update it again due to them adding something like this feature in game
Dom0 21 Jan, 2024 @ 5:02am
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working for me with the latest game version.
I tried playing a Viking leader, and I always ended up as the elected leader of my kingdom when I had it set to random dynasty member..
starchitec  [author] 6 Dec, 2023 @ 9:28am
probably? I havent played ck3 in a minute, but afaik it should still work regardless of updates.
✠ 𝓓𝓡𝓐𝓖𝓞 ✠ 6 Dec, 2023 @ 8:33am
Is it still playable?
Who's Askin'?! 24 Sep, 2023 @ 5:02am
If you have any plans on updating it, both this and Inherichance are in stasis and this is by far the best way to play IMO :D
DamTimothy 28 Mar, 2023 @ 8:57am
Does this work with the current version? It comes with a warning in the launcher, and either I've been rather lucky with the random inheritance or it isn't functioning for me in game.
starchitec  [author] 24 Feb, 2023 @ 10:12am
nothing happens until your character dies. Then it should be randomized, and could still be your normal heir.
Bob mcgee 24 Feb, 2023 @ 5:03am
The game rule is there, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I have no other mods.
[Army of Two] AXIS 19 Feb, 2023 @ 2:20am
Request: The one that inherits the top tier title is your new character, regardles of Dynasty.
This way I can continue as for example the Roman Emperor after I lost a civil war with my previous dynasty, lose all my work in making a strong bloodline and start over again weak and in danger.. Now I can truly let the civil wars of Rome play out

I feel like I would want these options on death, rather then to have them be unchangeable. I wonder how easy that would be to do
ThatGuy 17 Jan, 2023 @ 5:42am
This game setting is so genius. How did nobody think of it before? Perfect solution to snowballing and late game stagnation.
starchitec  [author] 29 Jun, 2022 @ 6:43am
afiak, yes. However see the linked mod inherichance for one that is more frequently updated
Skylet 29 Jun, 2022 @ 6:04am
Is this working currently ?
starchitec  [author] 14 Jun, 2022 @ 10:29am
Not necessarily. Primary heir is the default, so if it is always going to the primary that likely means that something is wrong (or there are not other valid options). I have had reports of it failing like this before and was never able to quite track down the issue. That said its been a while since I have looked at this, so you can also try the mod Inherichance (linked above) which I know was recently updated
Brink 14 Jun, 2022 @ 10:01am
So, if you reload a game will the same heir always inherit? I've had an issue where I've got the primary heir for two generations now, so I tried reloading to see if I got a different character, but I keep getting the primary heir again and again.
Morphyum 14 Feb, 2022 @ 1:05am
@raniel3
yes i am palying with it works fine so far.
Raphael 9 Feb, 2022 @ 6:50am
Is this working well with 1.5 and Royal Court? Anybody tried yet?
Swagmaster Love 🇪🇺 5 Feb, 2022 @ 12:54pm
Currently playing with random dynasty succession enabled in the game rules and in multiplayer.

Doesnt seem to work with elective succession laws?
bondboy8 19 Jan, 2022 @ 3:27am
It's been working fine since, so must have just accidentally created a fringe case. Thanks for your work! Great mod!
starchitec  [author] 17 Jan, 2022 @ 9:35pm
Unsure exactly, it defaults back to the player heir if it cannot find a valid one otherwise, but why it cant find a valid other heir in this case I dont know.
bondboy8 16 Jan, 2022 @ 1:23am
Did some testing, my current player heir always is my next character, but every succession after that is random. Is there something that might cause this? The event fires on death, yea? What might cause it to "lock" like this?
bondboy8 16 Jan, 2022 @ 12:37am
Started a run with this mod after watching quill18. First death I got my proper heir which I figured was because my dynasty wasn't too large, but then I reloaded the second death multiple times and each time I got my player heir despite tons of other options. I set it to random dynasty at the beginning. Is there a reason it might not be working right? Don't want to give up this run, but also don't want to just blob and stagnate.
BigBrother 12 Jan, 2022 @ 2:10pm
Great mod. When my first character died, I successfully became the youngest landed character, however, when this (second) character died, I became the heir instead of the youngest landed character!
starchitec  [author] 6 Jan, 2022 @ 5:36pm
oops, right. Fixed the version number (nothing changed but now it says its up to date)
Vox Infinitum 5 Jan, 2022 @ 1:13pm
For Idiots like myself, and because this isn't listed here.
The mod isnt functional for 1.4.4 Azure.
It is currently labeled for 1.3.1, and works perfectly fine on this version of the game.
Use the steam betas feature to roll back to the old version.
It is a lot of fun play, Thank you Starchitec for a brilliant mod.
starchitec  [author] 28 Dec, 2021 @ 10:03am
it should be, I just havent updated the version number
jabn 27 Dec, 2021 @ 5:02pm
Is this not compatable with new update?
starchitec  [author] 17 Dec, 2021 @ 10:29pm
Neat. and yeah, I played the Karlings with Random Dynastic once, you really get around
phantombandit 17 Dec, 2021 @ 8:13pm
@starchitec quill18 is featuring your mod in his newest playthru.
phantombandit 17 Dec, 2021 @ 8:11pm
dynasty is the best. Especially once your dynasty spans several different places, the game gets very interesting.
starchitec  [author] 4 Aug, 2021 @ 9:40am
You can only play as landed characters, so under primogeniture you only have options if you land some of your other children. But if they acquire land somehow, then you might end up playing as a sibling. Youngest (landed) dynasty member would also work, though it would often not be that different from random dynasty member, since most landed characters are older. I also somewhat like not being able to perfectly predict who I may play as next, and youngest dynasty member would be predictable.
llrjsghll 4 Aug, 2021 @ 8:26am
Is it possible to add an option to set successor as the youngest among dynasty members? And a question: I think the system finds candidates among rulers. If so, it won't let the children (other than the firstborn) of rulers be in the candidates under primogeniture law? Btw, love your mod
Ed Balls 2 Aug, 2021 @ 3:30pm
It appears to only happen when dying naturally of old age, so giving yourself the bubonic plague does work, but such a thing is hard in an ironman game! I hope that this is just a minor thing.
starchitec  [author] 2 Aug, 2021 @ 3:24pm
That is odd. Youngest should be relatively straightforward, unlike the family or vassal ones where there is a limited set and sometimes there just isn't a valid alternative. Has it worked at all on any options? I have seen it fail occasionally for no good reason, but the code for youngest looks right and did work when I tested. I've never actually played a campaign with it myself though.
Ed Balls 2 Aug, 2021 @ 5:54am
If so, it fails way too often on the "Youngest Character" option. I find myself playing my 42 year old son every time I die of old age.
DIOM 1 Aug, 2021 @ 8:44am
It works absolutely fine with Historical Fugures mod
starchitec  [author] 31 Jul, 2021 @ 12:21pm
The mod is called After Death. If you are deposed, you aren't dead. (also, the mod uses character death as a trigger, so that's just a circumstance that wont alert the events that make this mod work). Unsure why this would have any problems with Historical Figures.
Ed Balls 31 Jul, 2021 @ 6:53am
When set to "Youngest landed character" and you are deposed, you play as your heir, please fix.
Ed Balls 31 Jul, 2021 @ 1:37am
Incompatible with the Historical Figures mod, disable it if you want to use this mod.
DIOM 15 Jul, 2021 @ 1:06am
Simple ideas are the best! I love this mod. Made my all games interesting till the end years. Thank you.
starchitec  [author] 28 Jun, 2021 @ 10:08am
awesome! just the kind of stories this was made for.
Ampyr 27 Jun, 2021 @ 8:12pm
Just wanted to say I had a great experience playing this mod and it wouldn't have been possible without it! Was playing an epic game with the random dynasty member rule, my king died and luckily I got my primary heir straight away. Continued with him until he died, then went to his uncle who was a duke and vassal in the kingdom. Started getting his affairs in order when I noticed he had a terrible physician and had gout. So immediately searched for and found what i thought was a good replacement. She straight away recommended an extreme treatment for his gout, which I agreed to. She then cuts off his leg and he dies shortly after. I then return to the original primary heir and continue building the kingdom. Great little side story in my game and just had to laugh about it before posting here. Thanks again <3
starchitec  [author] 27 Jun, 2021 @ 10:25am
...weird. No way this mod is the cause of that.
hilaliskandar 27 Jun, 2021 @ 12:25am
Thanks for thi amazing mod. I want to report a unintended behavior (not sure I can name it a bug): if you create a new faith and become HoR all sucesors die so far you click it (new faith derived from Catholic)
Brink 25 Jun, 2021 @ 9:34am
Sorry, should have probably tried it before posting. Just saw the launcher say it was out of date and didn't do something smart, like trying to use it.
starchitec  [author] 25 Jun, 2021 @ 8:33am
...does this need an update? it should still work afiak.

I do want to make it divide gold amongst heirs (I kinda think that should happen in the base game). As for age, it already does prefer characters under 35, I tried setting it lower and often it could fail to find a character (or only find 1 or 2) which sort of eliminates the randomness. 35 seemed to be a good mix of not a character on their deathbed, but a large enough pool to work consistently.
kgptzac 25 Jun, 2021 @ 1:52am
the prospect of this mod does indeed makes me appreciate confederate partition lol. however is it possible to add two more rules? One being able to choose to give non-primary heirs some of the old ruler's gold. Another being able to choose a preferred age range. I like to play as a random 16~25 yo somewhere on the other corner of the map.
Brink 24 Jun, 2021 @ 1:21pm
Any chance this will be updated? Really love the idea and it'd be a shame if this never got updated again, especially with the new expansion coming out.
Markusaw 20 May, 2021 @ 11:10am
Not complete randomness, but instead random relevant characters
