how did i see this so late?!
but either way tysm

As far as I know, yes if you take the movement items at the halfway point of the challenge rooms it does lock the back half off. It's so that you can't just come back later with all the upgrades and trivialise it as each one is designed around only having the movement abilities available up to that point. This does block the 'true' ending of the map, but not the regular ending.
cam2310 21 Jul @ 5:37pm
if i get the shield of Cthulhu from the amethyst parkour, wouldn't that mean I'm locked out of beating the map?
Darc Vader 4 Aug, 2024 @ 8:19pm
@TheLegendofZach As far as I can recall there's just 1. I don't remember whether that was one of the recipes that got changed around in 1.4.X, so that may be the problem. Either way, you'll probably want to use the one for Lava Waders over Obsidian Shield, or if you're playing solo or 2 player there's no harm in grabbing 2 of them to craft both.
TheLegendofZachary 3 Aug, 2024 @ 6:17pm
Are there supposed to be 2 obsidian skull locations?(8 in the map overall)
Obsidian skulls are used for both the obsidian shield, and for the lava waders, but I only found a 1 chest of 4, instead of 2 different chests of 4

Played for an hour. Good Map, very interesting Gameplay, but it's lagging. Even hosting in multiplayer and minimal settings isn't helping. I guess it's something with torches, cause there are a lot of it. Maybe Terraria light sources are actually heavy for PC or poorly optimized.

"The Hive/Sunplate are where I stopped getting regular testers for the map because at that point I was over a year into the project and just wanted the thing done." This actually is a problem not just among map makers, but indie gamedev too. Don't rush things, after all, it's a passion project! Nobody puts time limits on you, and if you "just want something done" and plan to do it as soon as possible, then think, is it actually worth it? Making things like this should be a fun thing to do, what matters most is for you to enjoy doing something, then you'll make it good. After all, it's better to have something short but sweet instead of long but with weird bumps, right?
ppiece of cat 16 Dec, 2023 @ 8:25am
And of course, never be too hard on yourself. After all, it's not that serious. The map's scale is HUGE, I don't think I've ever played any so large, you should be proud of taking on something like this and even coming out of it with something, most people give up due to having an unrealistic scope. But of course, don't make things huge for the sole reason of feeling proud of have made it. Though maybe, one day after making more maps, at one point you'll be able to take on the challenge again?
ppiece of cat 16 Dec, 2023 @ 8:24am
Always remember, have fun. Have fun creating, building, planning, especially testing, because that way, players will have fun too. By not having fun with it, you just won't care if something isn't good, however, players very much will, like it was here. I suppose you've learnt a lesson from this old map, and now, if you still make maps or plan to, no, anything at all actually, then good luck with it! And I wish you well as you move on in life
Ozcaty  [author] 16 Dec, 2023 @ 8:09am
If one day I ever have a reason to, I might come back and remaster those poorer areas. For now though, thanks for all your honest feedback. Means a lot <3
Ozcaty  [author] 16 Dec, 2023 @ 8:09am
@ppiece of cat and @iLikeTerrain

Thank you for your feedback, the map is definitely rough around the edges, still hopefully was a fun experience for what it was. I just don't have a reason to go back and update it to clean that stuff up.

The Hive/Sunplate are where I stopped getting regular testers for the map because at that point I was over a year into the project and just wanted the thing done. That's why that area is unreasonably hard + the enemies now spawning in... yeah it's rough. The Sapphire challenge area I messed up, it's actually 6 blocks smaller than the others so it's rather easy... oops. All the areas listed Cursed Grove/Crystal Caverns were yeah, not fantastic. I originally planned for hermes boots to be accessible in Crystal but, well, messed up the sequencing and now it's just unfun. The difference in quality from some areas to others is definitely an issue.
iLikeTerrain 17 Nov, 2023 @ 7:25pm
I basically played until the "diamond" ending, then "cheated" to get in final challenge (after almost beating every gem room. On some of the worst 9th rooms, I would use platforms to skip the first jumps after beating the first jumps many many times yet not figuring out the next hard jump, so I could continue from the second hard jump instead.)

From a play-through online, it seems there is something broken (or something very hidden) for that "final challenge" room.

I love collecting the vanities and armors, but a few sets seem to be extremely hard to complete (are they impossible?).
(I don't know how I could only have 2 pieces of tin armor, for example.)

(cutting out a bunch of text here)...

A lot of work clearly went into this map. I haven't played many maps, but this is one of the best maps to play (if you don't mind parkour. I don't mind it)
ppiece of cat 2 Nov, 2023 @ 8:11am
@Ssamuueel Apparently, there's a weird thing with the map, and you need to play it in multiplayer. It's technical stuff that I am unsure of. I think it's because there are too many mechanisms in the map, and the game checking them every frame makes it lag, since in Terraria, the ticks are bound to your FPS. By playing it in multiplayer, you separate the game from the server, and so all the ticks do not affect your framerate, BUT you can experience small lags not as in FPS, but as in something similar to ping. That's fine though, due to how Terraria works, the ping doesn't affect your movement at all, which is basically the only thing you need. And now, good luck!
Ssamuueel 1 Nov, 2023 @ 2:47pm
I could not play this as when i got to the granite area (literally at the beginning) there would be a small lag every second
ppiece of cat 30 Oct, 2023 @ 10:03am
God, I hate the 1000 characters limit Steam has. Read from newest to oldest!
ppiece of cat 30 Oct, 2023 @ 10:02am
Update: I gave up. This is too hard. Though there are some things I'd like to say for the time that I could do, literally almost all of this is a huge spoiler, so newcomers beware:
First of all, the locations. Specifically, the Crystal Caverns. They're not fun, they're not hard, they're not challenging, but oh boy are they annoying. It's essentially almost an hour of literally just walking and nothing else. The enemies being there stopping you every second don't help, you can't even use the Shield of Cthulhu since you'd be knocked back. I also wanted to mention The Hive, which is one of the biggest reasons I decided to stop, but after reading the comments, alright, that's not a problem then.
ppiece of cat 30 Oct, 2023 @ 10:02am
The Cursed Grove isn't that good, either. I do understand that it might be the entire point, but in the end, it's just annoying to sit there and wait for your mana to recharge so you can shoot a Water Bolt and see if there's a vine in front of you or not. That will also be touched on later.
ppiece of cat 30 Oct, 2023 @ 10:01am
Then, the parkour sections, the ones where you get accessories and large gems. The difficulty there is inconsistent as well. The Amethyst challenge is the first one, and it's quite challenging. Though I did get past it. But then the Topaz challenge. I spent an hour on the 9th "room", with no luck beating it. It is the mid-air second dash causing problems, perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but it is simply way too precise. Perhaps a little nerf by moving it down 1-2 blocks would make it better? The Sapphire and Emerald challenges were, surprisingly, almost nothing. For both it took around 10 minutes, they're both much easier than the Amethyst and Topaz challenges. So that could use some balancing.
ppiece of cat 30 Oct, 2023 @ 10:01am
And equipment/collection. First off, the Sorcerer weapons aren't viable to use in any way here because you don't get any Mana Crystals throughout the map. Sure, you get the Jungle Armour at one point, but it's not enough. The Meteor Armour has absolutely no use here because of the problem.
Then we have just collection stuff. This one isn't as much something I disliked, but just a nitpick/suggestion, it would be nice to have some sort of a storage room for all the vanity and equipment you can find throughout the map, for the 100% people out there like I am.
ppiece of cat 30 Oct, 2023 @ 10:01am
Now I'm at that Sunplate location with conveyors and honey , and that's where I gave up. Though, here I admit, it's simply that I'm too bad for this. Generally the map was good, I had fun playing it up to this point. The Flipswitch Dungeon was especially fun. The builds look nice, atmosphere is done well. Though, I wish some things were used more, like shooting at targets, that doesn't matter much. Thank you for the map and the experience I got in the time I played it!
ppiece of cat 21 Oct, 2023 @ 8:10am
I got better hardware
I can now finally play this

I LOVE THAT
Kristallon13 4 Apr, 2023 @ 12:39pm
I think I softlocked myself, because I used the trident to enter the right side of the crystal caverns and ended up using the temple key on the door down there, when I think I was supposed to use it on the area at the bottom of the desert.
Darc Vader 3 Feb, 2023 @ 7:04pm
Also to be fair, the excessive hornets are a result of 1.4.something making the Hive count as Jungle and ramping up the enemy spawn rate accordingly. It wasn't intended to be that way, so you don't have to feel bad about taking Ozcaty's advice and cheesing it like that.
Ozcaty  [author] 3 Feb, 2023 @ 10:29am
@Puns True, if you wanna cheese the area, use cobalt/obsidian shield and the trident!
Puns 3 Feb, 2023 @ 2:34am
The Hive is the worst Biome in this entire map to me so far, due to the onslaught of hornets that spawn and constantly disrupt the parkour making it near impossible to do.
Darc Vader 6 Jan, 2023 @ 9:16pm
@Kristallon13 if you open the map in multiplayer (even playing by yourself) it seems to get rid of the majority of the lag. Not entirely sure why, but we've found it to be a reliable way to deal with it.
Kristallon13 6 Jan, 2023 @ 4:30pm
Not sure what's causing all the lag...
Snuggie 24 Oct, 2022 @ 10:08pm
i have done literally everything i can (without sequence breaking) to avoid this place, i will eventually go through it for completion, but the statues i cant remember by the time i get to the room i need them in
Snuggie 24 Oct, 2022 @ 10:05pm
I wouldnt mind some help on the statues within the Crystal Corridor, since it is literal torture to traverse
Ozcaty  [author] 17 Oct, 2022 @ 5:35am
@TaegAJ and @the.cowbone
Thank you for your kind words about the map, super appreciated! I put every part of myself into this so I'm so glad people are able to enjoy it.
TaegAJ 16 Oct, 2022 @ 4:00pm
I remember checking this out awhile ago but never actually playing it. So after I finished my 1.4.4 play through of the getfixedboi seed I decided to go to the workshop and download this map again. And after completing it all I can say is Wow! This map genuinely feels like a metroidvania. I loved exploring the world and getting new items to unlock new areas. I can tell a lot of effort went into this. The only part I didn't like was the entirety of crystal corridors but that's only one area. Also some of the rope jumps were a bit hard but that's probably just a skill issue on my part. Overall I would rate this map a 8.5/10 and I definitely recommend playing it.
cowasaki 4 Oct, 2022 @ 10:24pm
This was a wonderful map to play. Please try it out, especially with friends. It was so much fun figuring out puzzles, and the most optimal way to cheese difficult parts. Spent about 14 hours just to beat it.
Ozcaty  [author] 26 Sep, 2022 @ 6:53pm
@Sir_Pie Thank you for the kind words about the map! I definitely focused on the exploration part of the map, which I found to be the best thing about Hollow Knight :)

Yep no rules against crafting stuff that doesn't break the other rules
Niche_Quiche 26 Sep, 2022 @ 1:43pm
...Oh. Just found the jellyfish necklace, lol. Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than having to swap helmets like I did! Still really fun, and also not unlike how similar strategies can be used in Hollow Knight, huh!
Niche_Quiche 26 Sep, 2022 @ 12:49pm
Yeah, I understand, not saying it's a problem with the map design or anything. Also, there's no rules against using other things found randomly, right? Like, crafting Mana Crystals and the Enchanted Boomerang from Fallen Stars, and using mob drops such as Money Troughs and Zombie Arms, etc.

btw, love the map so far; I think this might've had the best underwater area I've seen in a game, and having stuff like being able to dash twice while underwater and needing to swap between illumination and respiration was really cool . And the map layout really does a good job of giving a sense of exploration like Hollow Knight has
Ozcaty  [author] 25 Sep, 2022 @ 10:38pm
@Sir_Pie The map has not been updated since Deerclops, so I did not intend for any rogue spawns of it.

Using that item wouldn't be against the rules technically, but it existed after I made those rules.
Niche_Quiche 25 Sep, 2022 @ 9:46pm
WHAT EVEN so I was AFK in the rest area above spawn and then DEERCLOPS showed up and clipped INSIDE of the room! It killed me repeatedly, but it didn't despawn, so I just kept respawning and stabbing it until it died!

...It's totally not breaking any of rules to use the Pew-matic Horn it dropped, right? Heh
Oguri Cap 18 Jun, 2022 @ 9:16pm
ok, but what if i zoom
Nimta 31 May, 2022 @ 2:35am
the bricks are tin, the walls are platinum. the tin is painted, the platinum is not.
Ligma 2022 25 May, 2022 @ 3:16am
@Ozcaty thanks! i will try to find out how to get those to see if there any other good combinations for medium- to large-scale builds
Ozcaty  [author] 24 May, 2022 @ 11:56pm
@Ligma 2022 Thanks! I think they are platinum bricks? Or at least some type of metal brick :p
Ligma 2022 24 May, 2022 @ 9:55pm
love the build! how did you get the bricks to take that color in the third image?
Ozcaty  [author] 6 Apr, 2022 @ 10:12am
@кусок ежа Hope you are enjoying it

You must find the teleporters in the world (NOT in the gem room) to progress.
I would suggest heading Eastward

Amethyst 8 is incredibly difficult, that and level 9 act as barriers for people who wouldn't have beaten the hardest levels later on anyway, trust me, it gets harder.
I appreciate the suggestion but I have no plans on making the map "accessible" when you can easily take your pickaxe or place some blocks if you would like to skip the area.
ppiece of cat 6 Apr, 2022 @ 9:53am
Also how do I get the climbing claws? The teleporter to there is locked
ppiece of cat 6 Apr, 2022 @ 9:52am
I just passed the amethyst and topaz parkour trials and I've noticed something. First - for some reason for me the 8th room was always the hardest one by A LOT. This one room was much harder than all the others combined in both the amethyst and topaz trials. Is that normal? Also, I suggest adding accessibility options there, so that disabled people or with very low-end PCs can enjoy 100% of the game. I remember commenting how bad this map is because of lags and didn't read the FAQ. Now I just feel shame for that comment, and sorry for it if you remember it somehow from somewhere. (It was on curse if I'm right).
Darc Vader 12 Feb, 2022 @ 5:03pm
It gets better worse
InternetCurtains 12 Feb, 2022 @ 4:26pm
I just did the amethyst challenge in one and a half hours of torture without even knowing it was optional
