pleaaaase can you make a mod where you can switch between swords and spears per click on a button? anti horse bonus with spears and anti inf bonus with swords. and phalanx automaticly change to shieldwall when you switch to swords

You should make it work like missile units. Press "F" to swap between sword and spear.

To work with a skin mod the maker of the skin mod himself has to alter his skin mod to give the Spartans a sword. Now this sword will not show up unless they have this mod as it requires the right animation tables. The sword is part of the skin which is why this isn't compatible.

They do not. I'm afraid it can't be modded that way. Their stats are already quite high anyway.

It just allows them to engage at a shorter range. So technically it actually increases their chances to attack anyway. So really they have a bonus against sword infantry without actually in giving then a bonus. As spears have a minimum range where they can attack.

but i mean for the hoplites of all other factions. It would be wierd to have only the hoplites of 3 factions use swords and the rest use only spears.

They still do. They use spears far more than swords. The only time they prefer swords more is when the enemy is routing.

I wish I knew the skills to use PFM. Old ROME was easy, this is takig time through many youtube vids haha. Ill have a look but was using it with Epic Spartan Reskin.

Any mod that touches their land_units table or their variantmeshdefinition file will not work with this mod. It won't crash but either my mod will override the other mod or vice versa. Seems like radius is overriding mine.

Does it change the look of the spartan units?
Does it change the stats of the spartan units?

The rest of my mod will be working you just won't see it because of those two tiny overlaps.

If you have PFM you can fix the issue with one tiny copy paste.

No mate, the hoplites dont seem to. The usual units like Pikemen do. I am using mods that seem to have formation attack option gone, Radious maybe. Could be the reason.

Lol you sent me a friend request. Literally just take the animations.txt file and put that into your mod. The give whatever unit you want to have swords as a secondary weapon the right animation type. I forgot what its called but if you open it up in PFM and to to the animation bit in land_units it will tell you.

Then give them swords in the variant editor and stick the Variantmeshdefinition file in your mod.

As long as that mod first alter the varientmeshdefinition file and the land_units table for those spartan units I gave swords then yes. Otherwise it won't crash if that mod does edit them. But parts of hat mod or my entire mod will not be shown.

You can since it has been done before and they aren't simply random otherwise some animations wouldn't be more rare. In your more swords are more common anyway. Clearly this isn't going anywhere but I know where I can find out how to do it. Thanks for replying anyway.

You can't change the probability of the animations. They are random. In this case its based on the range from the target. Spears have a longer range so its done more than swords in the mod.

I think I get it now. The sword shield animations probally appear more since there are more of them so the overall probability of all sword ahield animations is higher than spear shield. So if you create a variation of the spear shield animation set where all the animations have a higher probability, then they will appear more.

You can't combine them. That's the thing. As each set is rigged to a particular weapon bone. Swords and spears are rigged to different weapon bones.

I see.

Even then changing stuff in there wouldn't affect frequency between spear and sword either. I haven't quite figured out how to modify those animations as they differ slightly from shogun 2 animations by having an extra file. A .anim file and a .meta file while shogun 2 only had the .anim file. But I can assure you changing things in there won't make spear animations more common than sword animations and they are rigged to different things.
