Overall, this map has been a refreshing experience. I'd like to add that it's aesthetically beautiful too c:
I was somewhat frustrated with placing the turret facing sideways on the light bridge to get the laser cube. It felt unintended, given the inconsistent physics of it, and I've spent a long time trying to come up with a better solution. Is there a better method? Nonetheless, the rest of the map has more than made up for that with its creative moves. I also didn't mind the long walking at all. It doesn't really matter if your mind is preoccupied after all :D
Very sorry for the long overdue answer! Thank you so much for playing and for your comprehensive comment, it's always a blast to see such detailed feedback! This map is quite a monstrosity so great job solving it. Weird that the turret seemed to fall over, I thought I made that quite reliable by using a track platform (which are slower than piston platform by default).
@masaltzero
I mean, this map is SUPPOSED to kick your ass, so that sounds about right :P thanks for playing, and congrats for beating it!
The only turret thing missing would be to blow it up and make the shock wave move something or make the turret shoot at something . I'm thinking of an "orange cube - something" ;D
P.S. again a spare cube in the end? :'(
Fun fact: I let Chrome back-translate your last message to eer55 into German and it still makes PERFECT sense
...*I NEVER used this move , instead I put a cube under the turret dropper to be rid of it once I come back down. So since I never set foot again into that area at the entrance but clearly recognized the hint (carved out floor panel) I had no idea what else to do whit it for a long time ^^
When I finally found out how to bring up the turret, the rest was more or less plain sailing.
What a huge relief when I solved that map (on my own!) after such a long time. Oof!
Btw I'm fine with "a lot of walking" and YES, "the nice logic makes it up"
The turret using the elevator platform was more of an issue (well... swinging with the turret wasn't fun either ;-P) Turns out it needs to face the wall (or the chamber) - if it is turned to the side it would fall over! I was hoping this didn't turn into an escort mission ^^ eventually the turret was brave enough to survive the elevator part ;-)
Easy map - took me only a week XD 8/10 is about right.
Seriously, it's fantastic. 3-2-1-favourite (as well as the thumbs up of course)
Watched the 11 minute playthrough by Joric (which you approved) and did it MOSTLY* (see next comment) the same way. I also did the mystery move ( respwaning the regular cube from up above ) Joric style .
I appreciate the on-screen notes. It helps with the core move ("turret, jail bars & elevator") leading to the final setup.
I spawned the cubes with almost no trouble, even found the cc achievement (hooray!), and respawned the cubes at the upper level with minor to medium trouble. What haunted me the most was how to get the turret to the elevator cause I didn't see the obvious! ( bringing it through the life sensor ) Things got really hard because I was distracted...
Thanks a lot! Honestly, I would probably get stuck myself trying to solve this one after all this time!
Restrictive is the word indeed! Honestly I wasn't expecting that one would grow to be such a brutal puzzle when I started working on it. I perfectly understand about noclipping, the turret can behave in weird ways sometimes... wish I could have done more to make a few moves more consistent, but oh well
Thanks, I'm happy you enjoyed it despite the turret's somewhat janky physics and hitbox!
@Narkodes
Thank you very much for the nice words, and for helping improve the map. It's not always obvious for the author to spot such inconveniences in the design, and your opinion is always helpful. Glad you liked the logic!
You weren't annoying at all, in fact your numerous comments only show how much time and dedication you put into hard maps such as this one, and I really appreciate that! If anybody was unhappy with your comments/questions, I would argue that their opinion shouldn't be worthy of your consideration because ultimately it is none of their concern, and I would advise that somebody to find something better to do. Anyway thanks a lot for playing and for the award as well!
Your reasoning is correct, the only way to bring the turret up there is having it ride the lift. However you need to do that while maintaining a portal on the upper surface, which means you can't place a cube on the lift button through a portal, you must walk there. After placing the turret on the lift, you have to get out of that area without crossing the lifeform sensor and going through the laser surface isn't a option. That means that's when the little area accessible by cube-climbing comes into play. Also, the cube gets stuck in the area behind the jail bars, so you must choose in advance which cube you want to bring there so that you'll be able to respawn it later. I also would like to point out, just in case, that once you have a cube in the highest area behind the yellow fizzler, you can access that area by flinging out of the angled panel and cube climbing. That's definitely important. Hope it helps, and that it's not too confusing!
If I understood correctly, your current setup is fine. However at this point you don't really need a portal connection to the laser surface. A few days ago you said you "managed to get the laser cube to the top". Did you mean in the the portalable piston platform area, or in the area even one block higher, past the yellow fizzler? The latter is definitely what you want to aim for at the moment.
Perfect solution as well! Very well done, thanks for your time!
@jandlml
Yes, your exit strategy is exactly right. That's why a key step of the puzzle is figuring out how to bring the turret up there, where it needs to be for the end. Another crucial thing to realise is that you need to be very careful to be able to go back to the upper area at all times. That means you have to maintain a portal connection up there most of the time, or allow you a way back up. Of course the little area behind the button that deactivates the fizzler is used, later in the solution. Finally, as Joric said, that setup with the turret climbing crossed out signage is meant to allow you to climb with a cube but not the turret.
Brilliant videos! Both of your solutions are now 100% intended with only minor variations. Thanks a lot for sticking with it! Regarding the "move of mystery" (for lack of a better name lol), lapicidas shows the way I had in mind. But Joric, you can consider your way a valid alternative. Finally, lapicidas, this unintended solution in your latest comment is quite sneaky! I think it's obscure enough though. Once more, fantastic work solving this tough map multiple times!
At that time I used the turret in the portal , but it is easier with the cube:
Again with double speed: https://youtu.be/vFllDO-PBCA
It largely coincides with the @Joric playthrough with a few exceptions like that I got the reflector cube differently the second time and I did not use this ominous "MOVE OF MYSTERY" either,
it works actually a little easier
08:14 UNINTENDED MOVE OF MISTERY because I have no idea what you considered intended.
Not worth fixing, it doesn't really skip anything
Sounds like you're on the right track. The button that deactivates the fizzler will come into play soon, you may want to think about which cube(s) to bring there
@hub
Impressive video! Your way to get the laser cube is obviously unintended as stated in the description, but that's fine. There were some other unintended sequences, which will probably be fixed with the next update I'm planning. Thanks a lot for playing, and amazing job reaching the exit!
@Joric
Adding an exit button would only add extra elements without forcing additional move so I will refrain from doing that.
@jandlml you still need portal on top pass turret through the lifeform sensor
@Leo looks like exit needs an extra button as people were able to bring the cube there

It seems the regular cube is a little bit underused.
