However if their torpedoes were functional, they would have sunk a battleship, a destroyer squadron and the entire fleet of troop transports. Instead, they were 100% duds.
In fact, Churchhill himself was on a warship that was struck twice by uboat torpedoes - but he never was aware of it because they failed to detonate at all.
military ships tends to have a very shallow draft, especially the Uboats nemesis, the destroyer. For most of the war, the torpedoes all ran deeper than the setting and could run no shallower than 3 meters or so.
Also, at this time, the magnetic detonators were too unreliable to be used at all - they were forbidden. So there was simply no weapon that the uboats had that would work against destroyers.
Uboats were encouraged to attack warships, just their reliance on stealth was totally hobbled by their torpedoes which would run off course and detonate at random spots, giving them away before they were able to do any damage.
The Developers need to talk to some experts such as myself (Historian) who knows the REALITY. Keep it up. Mods like this are the only way we are going to bring some REALITY into this Highly Potential Game!
They are on the right road with many of the changes they are doing in 129. However, lets hope SOMEONE from the Developers are watching these MODs!!!!!!!!!
If ONLY the Developers knew this!
Does "not savegame compatible" mean that it only works on a fresh campaign or what does it mean?
In the end it does not make the game extremely easy - I personally think it would even be understandable if the reward for sinking an Illustrious would be around 15000 just because of the importance cvs had during WWII. I mean honestly you get like 7000 just for sailing 2000 km in a patrol grid - compared to that sinking any kind of warship (which usually have some really dangerous escorts).
Also before judging the mod I would try it out to see how "easy" it makes the game David because like that you would realize that it does just reward players that don't choose the easy way of hunting lone merchants but actually attack warships that are designed to kill them.
Well that's all I guess - thank you for the mod
getting like 3000 for sinking an illustrious doesnt make much sense. you literally sunk a modern surface warship with some shitty surface ship that has the option to go under water
Starting with Illustrious, sinking a carrier was a very big deal. Carriers were critical to the war in the Atlantic and the Med. The vanilla reward for a carrier is 7500--less than two C3’s. So if you sink two C3’s in a convoy (which I do routinely), you get a better reward than sinking one of the Royal Navy’s most prized possessions. Considering rarity, strategic value, no of torps required, and typical escort accompaniment (hence, difficulty), 10000 reward seems more reasonable--Far less than a BB and 3X more than a large merchant.
Cruisers weren’t the stars of the Royal Navy, but were far more rare and expensive to produce than DDs and played vital roles in many naval engagements. In vanilla, they are worth 2000—slightly better than an N1A! Like Illustrious, they're rare, require 3-4 torps to sink, and often heavily guarded.

I am not sure how David below defines “easy,” but this mod does not change sonar values, speed, or any characteristics related to difficulty of sinking. Destroyers are just as agile and dangerous. And Illustrious will still take off like a bat out of hell if you don’t get her in one salvo. All will still blast you into smithereens if they see your periscope.
Bottom line: If you think the game currently treats warships fairly, don’t subscribe. If you feel the vanilla cost-benefit ratio is imbalanced, subscribe.
Happy hunting!
THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS MOD INSTEAD OF BALANCING THE REWARDS IS BEING AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE ON AN ALTERNATE IDEA
No, unfortunately. I haven't found a way to add reputation points for sinking warships. There is no value for reputation points associated with warships in the game files that I can find.
The main objective of this mod is to simply balance the comparative value of warships against merchants and make those uncommon encounters with carriers and cruisers worth the effort of targeting.
Is that incorrect?
