Version 1.6.0
Removed HugsLib dependency
Overhauled settings & code / project

Let me know if anything breaks.
Smiley Face Killer 20 hours ago
Yea it's so rough without this. Base game's implementation is god awful in comparison.
Can't wait till you get time to get around to updating this one
BigAl 12 Jul @ 10:20am
No idea how people play without this. Took me a while to work out how to see Temps on vanilla HUD
Kham 12 Jul @ 5:20am
I would love if hugslib dependency got removed in the update. This is the last mod in my list that still need hugslib. Take your time on the updates though, really appreciate your work. :)
Osium 12 Jul @ 12:24am
@Syrus dew eeet. ;)
p1 12 Jul @ 12:15am
Only now that this is missing, I remembered that this is not actually a function of the base game ... I didn't play a single hour Rimworld without it and years later I just forgot about it.
Worst Player NA 11 Jul @ 8:08pm
Good to hear this will be potentially getting an update, I honestly use this a lot!

I was thinking on removing HugsLib considering it is not updated and I'm unsure when or whether it will be. I'm aware of the updated "unofficial" updated HugsLib, but I think it'd be a good moment to remove this third party dependency altogether now.

That's the major obstacle for updating most of my mods currently, besides time, of course.

I'll update them one by one over the next days as I have time,. Heat Map being high up on priority.
Doing the non-HugsLib mods first, though Customize Animals turned out to be more troublesome than hoped...
The Blind One 11 Jul @ 4:05pm
nvm I saw there's a temp for the moment.

thank you for your service all these years.
The Blind One 11 Jul @ 3:35pm
I don't usually ask for updates but ...

I am Commander The Blind One and this is my favorite mod on the workshop.

I really really really love this mod :lunar2019grinningpig: been such an amazing QoL feature for me for so long.
Syrus  [author] 13 Jan @ 9:48am
I have not updated the original version. Due to how Steam handles mods, I cannot do so, so when the author was absent for a while I decided to update this version instead and the original author returned some time later, updating the original.

Unless something changed, this version here is different in such that you can change the colors...iirc
Trivia Vanille 12 Jan @ 4:24pm
I see you've updated the original version of this mod a little more recently than this version... is it better to install the original now, or this one?
Kham 7 Sep, 2024 @ 2:15pm
Ah that's a shame, thank you for the confirmation though! :)
Syrus  [author] 7 Sep, 2024 @ 2:00pm
It does require HugsLib, yes. I'll add the dependency here
Kham 7 Sep, 2024 @ 10:28am
Does this version still require HugsLib? It's not listed as a dependency on Steam but is in the original description section and about.xml?
SilentStorm 17 Jul, 2024 @ 4:38am
@Syrus yes
Syrus  [author] 15 Jul, 2024 @ 11:54am
@SilentStorm
"What do you mean by another map? One game with two settlements, or two different games?"
Multiple colonies, caravan event maps, etc. Thought it might have been an issue with the widget showing the wrong temperature from another map or such.

I assume the temperature in the lower right display differed from the widget?
SilentStorm 15 Jul, 2024 @ 5:28am
@Syrus
- Where is the temperature displayed wrong, just on the widget?
Only the widget
- Are the room temperatures correct, both the color overlay and the small text display?
Yes overlay is always correct, only the widget is incorrect
- Is the mouse-over temperature in the lower right correct, both for indoors and outdoors temperatures?
Yes
- Is there an offset, or is it wrong by a factor, for example does it always show 10° too much or 1.5x more than it should be or is it a constant wrong value? Example values are probably helpful.
Let me get back to you on this one
- Does this happen when using either Celsius and Fahrenheit?
I only know Fahrenheit, so that's where I've observed the issue
- Do you play on only one map, two or more?
Only one

What do you mean by another map? One game with two settlements, or two different games?
Enlonwhite 7 Jul, 2024 @ 8:45pm
@Awesome, I hadnt been back on rimworld for a bit, and when I heard/realized vanilla has one, I was like, huh so this mod is different how?. but you did explain that very well, thank you!

I only asked, because as a person who loves and usually uses over 350 mods, I do like to see where I can trim down at times. But based on your notes of differences, and a trail vanilla game load in compare, I agree this mod is better still.
So its here to stay for me!

I was ignorant of information and stupid :meepdrool:, Thank you for fixing some of that. :meepstarry:
Syrus  [author] 7 Jul, 2024 @ 2:56am
Difference between this and the original mod is that the original mod was not updated for the longest time and it includes some minor bugfixes the original has not.

Difference between this and the vanilla temperature overlay is that the latter's color range is much wider, while this mod focusses the color range on the much smaller and more important "comfortable" temperature range.
It also adds the ability to customize the overlay, both the colors and the range of temperatures.
And finally, it adds a handy, customizable widget which displays the current outdoors temperature.

Check it out, decide for yourself if it's for you or whether you are fine with the vanilla overlay. Can be added and removed in a running save without issues as far as I'm aware.
Enlonwhite 6 Jul, 2024 @ 5:22am
So, what is the difference between this and the Vanilla game heat map?. Yes vanilla has a heat map now.
Gender Bender 2 Jul, 2024 @ 11:26pm
what the difference between this mod and the original heat map mod?
Syrus  [author] 17 Jun, 2024 @ 2:34am
I need some information on that.
- Where is the temperature displayed wrong, just on the widget?
- Are the room temperatures correct, both the color overlay and the small text display?
- Is the mouse-over temperature in the lower right correct, both for indoors and outdoors temperatures?
- Is there an offset, or is it wrong by a factor, for example does it always show 10° too much or 1.5x more than it should be or is it a constant wrong value? Example values are probably helpful.
- Does this happen when using either Celsius and Fahrenheit?
- Do you play on only one map, two or more?
- Is the displayed temperature the same for both players?
- Does it display the temperature of another map?
- Is it wrong for both players on every map?
SilentStorm 16 Jun, 2024 @ 6:47pm
I used to use this mod a lot, and recently came back to the game. I am playing in multiplayer mode and the mod doesn't show the correct temperatures (it worked in multiplayer mode when I used to play). I saw someone recently opened a discussion saying the same thing. If there's any info I can provide to help make it reproducible just let me know.
Pixel Person 27 May, 2024 @ 6:09pm
@Syrus Thank you for shining light from a modder's perspective, and making this clear and concise. I see where you're coming from, and I really appreciate you taking to time to come back to my comment. You hold some very good points, and I hope that someday people really do figure out what the reported issues are within the code, if there are any.
Syrus  [author] 19 May, 2024 @ 5:21pm
HugsLib is required. It's used for the mod's settings, for example. I should add that as a requirement.

I don't understand what people's problems with HugsLib is, I've not had any issues with it and neither have I seen anyone point out any actual, reproducible bugs causes by it.
My guess is either that people have some kind of mod conflict(s), which they blame on HugsLib, there's some kind of permission issue, some kind of mod update issue with steam, ... or who knows, maybe they are just trying to get people to stop using HugsLib because it's made by a Russian person.

Unless someone actually points out a reproducible issue with that library, I, in all honesty, refuse to take on the rather large amount of work required to rewrite my mods to not use HugsLib.
Please, if anyone got some information on what "the issue" with it is, enlighten me. I feel like I'm missing something here, despite keeping an eye on the HugsLib comment section.
Pixel Person 19 May, 2024 @ 12:17pm
In the original mod description it says HugsLib is required. But in this mod it shows no dependencies. Have you, by chance, removed the HugsLib dependency? :meepstarry:

I've chosen to avoid HugsLib due to the overwhelming game-breaking issues since the 1.5 update. I understand that when an update comes out it takes a long time to readjust mods, but HugsLib seems to have been broken quite a while since before 1.5
tankuwell 16 May, 2024 @ 9:25pm
So last night asleep, I woke up having a nightmare while also getting a cramp in my calf which I felt all day, and the reason in my dream was this mod. Not sure why but glad it wasn't cause i like this one. Thanks for what you do.
lol 10 May, 2024 @ 10:38am
Still best simple mod, showing outside temperature at a glance

Are you sure you are reporting this on the correct mod?
I see no way for that to happen from this mod, sorry.

This mod changes the style of the research benches to the steel one and when fully zoomed in, the walls fade out, not sure why

It works fine for me in 1.5
Daimyo 5 Apr, 2024 @ 12:18am
Does this work with 1.5?
Nicholas Steel 19 Jan, 2024 @ 8:58pm
It's like it oscillates between a lighter and darker variant of the current colour. It could be that it's simply on the edge of a threshold between 2 colours without a hysteresis system in place to prevent this visual oscillation.
Syrus  [author] 19 Jan, 2024 @ 9:33am
Uhm...never had that before. Sounds like a bug. Probably some other mod not being compatible, is my guess.
What did you do to produce the issue?
Nicholas Steel 19 Jan, 2024 @ 4:57am
What's it mean when the heatmap starts blinking for a room?
Light-DelaBlue 25 Nov, 2023 @ 12:39pm
the ubton of heat map disapear strangely
Syrus  [author] 18 Nov, 2023 @ 4:09pm
Good to know, thank you, that narrows down the problem.
No wonder I never noticed it, I only ever have one colony.
I will look into it when I have time.
Signal 17 Nov, 2023 @ 9:11pm
Syrus, back in April, someone mentioned that the temperature labels disappeared in his game. I recently saw that too, and I noticed a reproducible pattern. If you have more than one settlement (camps from Set Up Camp count for this too), the temperature labels only display for the settlement that you were viewing when you last saved your game. For settlements A and B, if you saved while viewing B and later load that save, the labels appear for B but not A, and vice versa.
