[Dizzy] Beds Need Bedding

@hagnet this was my original idea and approach. Had it going but there was no way to require the fuel AND disallow Pawns from using the bed without fuel without resorting to C#. I decided this would remain an XML only mod, as it's simple to maintain and update, and works well for my use.

first of, /tips hat/ thanks for providing support for this mod for this long.
second, i like the idea of providing bedding to bed, but i think you could see it from another angle. Instead of making them a building requirement, you could make it a form of "fuel" for the bed, that you need to constantly replace. A bed without "fuel" would then provide half / third the comfort it would normally produce

Done. It's a simple file patch, but if they change their beds or add a lot later, I suggest they maintain the patch- they'll know what to do if they are interested.

that one sounds tough to figure out. probably some mod that counts things or changes zones. but from my experience nearly anything because a lot of mod authors add extra bits they shouldn't and don't tell ya.

Just tested, and this is not behavior I am seeing. Asked to "do until 2," pawns made 2. Stacked in separate stacks. tested again. Asked "do until you have 4" they made two more and stacked them together (3 stacks) stopped making more, then consolidated (one stack). Made no more.

I suspect you have a mod conflict.

There is a problem. When bills are set to "do until X" the game counts the X as the number of stacks. So for example, when X set to 10 for bedding, the pawns try to make 10 full stacks at least, and that is at leasr 200 individual beddings,

Can you fix this issue?

How to? Do you think to make that simple bed not require bedding? That would be easy.

Could also move that simple bed to complex furniture tech which is the vanilla tech.

It gets complicated to move bedding to a special tech devised by VE mods. I grow weary of keeping up with their changes and constant re-balancing. And honestly don't use 95% of their mods anymore.

And honestly this sort of bloated furniture mid-step tech is exactly why I left VE behind ages ago. Use a bedroll or a real bed was my take.

If you open the Recipes_Production.xml you can change <researchPrerequisite>ComplexFurniture</researchPrerequisite> to whatever tech VE added for your own mod mod. :)

VFE adds a "basic furniture" research with a "simple bed" that requires bedding, but doesn't actually unlock bedding to craft. May you patch it so the "basic furniture" research does allow bedding?

It will not affect the quality of the bed, that is up to the maker. It's simply a requirement that you use some sort of textile to create a bed rather than simply wood or metal. So use a cheaper textile, don't waste Devilstrand on a bed.

And this, folks, is why I made this mod entirely XML with some custom graphics. Ready for v1.5; tested.

Let me know if it interacts badly with any mods you use that I support, but only AFTER they update their mods, please. Wild bugchases are not fun.

that would be greatly appreciated. I was trying to see if I can't get the beds to choose what resource they want with another mod but was unable to do that.
Even if the toggle is there for it, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm mainly using this in a fairly realistic Zombie survival mod-list and having Unfurnished be an odd one out just doesn't fit well.

It's possible, not hard at all, but I'd be unsure others want that? If they use this mod and that one and like that mod's cloth use and other beds using bedding. As this is an XML mod only, I can't put in a simple option for users to select.

If no one objects I'll do it in a few days. Say instead of 40/80 cloth it's 1/2 bedding, no other changes.

Okay I tried to put "bed needs bedding" after all the mods that add beds, still vfe spacer module's beds dont use bedding.

"Beds need bedding" is already above both of them, both of the vfe and vfe spacer module is below your mod. Do you mean I should place your mod below all of the mods that have beds?

when placed before the vfe and vfe spacer module, beds from vfe use bedding such as ergonomic beds but not the beds from vfe spacer module such as advanced beds

One question, why does the simple bed from VFE need bedding? Its one of the only two beds without actual bedding, so I thought it was a little funny. I do love the mod though, never quite found one that works for me like this one :p

Just got Rimworld and I've been shopping around for a lot of furniture mods. Where/how should I place this mod on the list to make sure the beds have bedding on them (I've installed Vanilla Furniture Expanded as well)?

Sorted, I believe. In a stockpile Bedding will be found under manufactured as ts own entry.

Not sure if a just me issue, but when I do the bill "make bedding until X/10" it'll only count as 1 bedding even if there's like 10 in a stack the whole stack counts as being 1/10 so he just keeps making the bedding.

Maybe another thing. There is a remnant Buildings_Misc with copies of the slab beds in the Defs folder. Lefter overs from development?
