Turns out my problems were my own fault.
This morning I had a thought that just because I'm not using another ore mod doesn't mean I don't have a conflict. Looking at the active mods, I saw Bush Be Gone above TOOM and thought that could be the culprit. Inspecting the files confirmed this. Turns out they both modify PlanetGeneratorDefinitions.sbc.
After copying Bush Be Gone's changes into TOOM's version of this file and reloading the save, all of the ore patches that I had marked are now gone. (Not just the yellow patches, but also the actual ores since I hadn't yet dug into those areas.) Hooray! Now I can delete all those invalid GPS markers and search for more scarce ores the way I'd intended to.

And just found a patch of silver on Earthlike.

Has this mod broken? I'm playing in a Solar System start that included the mod on world creation. Driving around a polar region of Earthlike, I'm finding the yellow snow indicating where ore patches are. I thought the "no add maps" was supposed to remove these yellow patches so you have to use an ore detector to find ore. They also seem to be 3 ores per patch like normal instead of the 1 type per patch like I'd expect. They're also very common. It seems the mod isn't being used by the game at all.

Any chance this can be added after a world is generated? or must be present at initial load only?

I'm probably going to get called dumb for this but is there any way to make this work on a planet replacer I want to use this planet but that of course doesn't work if there is a way then great if not oh well

BEST MOD I HAVE USED! I have been playing on a save for about a week on Pertam without a large grid rover/ore detector. I just found my first ore deposit of iron, granted I need other resources. I am also playing with Awe Scrap, and various NPC/scrap mods. This really changes the game for the better! Thank you for this mod!

Ahh ok ^^ thanks man

The values listed above are for the ore generation, things like ice lakes and the ice spots on Pertam are generated separately as part of the planets biomes in the planet file. Same reason why Europa and the moon are listed as 0% yet will still have some, they get it via other places.
So it’s not a bug.. I just wasn’t too clear on explaining it :D
0% ice here means I didn’t add any additional ice to the map in the form of an ore patch.

You've wrote in the description that pertam has 0% ice, but i just found 3 patches of ice ( all hidden underneath dark-green grassy areas). Is that suppose to happen? of is that a "bug"? :)

AddMaps make it so that you ‘might’ see light patches on the planets surface to indicate that there is ore under the surface in that area. I say might, as it can be hard to see them on certain terrain.
Some people don’t like to see them, others prefer them as it helps you find ores.
:)
You can probably switch between the 2 versions, as that is the only difference, although I have not tested that so make sure to back up your save before trying it if you do! :p

What is AddMaps? (don't know which version to get)

First things first, get rid of that ore detector mod lol.
I've tried 50km in testing, does not work. It will find an ore then quickly remove the marker, so you never see it. It also grinds your CPU and lags!
If you want to use an ore detector mod without breaking your game :D id stay within the 350-450m range vanilla or not. A small increase is a reasonably large area and some of the ore patches are wide as well, so you can space yourself about 1km from where you searched last time.
I would not recommend going past the 1km detector range that I normally use for testing.

If you are detecting the ore from rocks however you may have just got unlucky, missed an ore spot that was there or landed in a bad area. Earth dose have one of the lower ore densities so you will likely need to travel a lot to find ores. Especially if you want a specific ore like cobalt.

ok i started on earth in savana biome with pretty flat surrounding soo that maybe the problem and i went overboard with ore detector mod that has 50km range and found only the rocks on surface i will try some more uneven terrain

What planet/moon did you start on and have you played similar ore map mods before?

It depends on the planet/moon the "Ore density" will give you a clue, the bigger the number the more chance of finding ore. And the ore % is the chance of finding a specific ore when you do find an ore.

I tried to distribute ores in a similar density to likeminded mods. 6-10km or more between ore patches is likely. There may also be unlucky dead areas. I tried to avoid placing ores on large low level flat areas, such as lakes or desserts, so this likely bumps up the ore finding difficulty a bit.

If you’re having issues I'd suggest searching around high grounds and less flat areas first, failing that maybe an ore detector range mod.

If anyone else has any comment on the ore density I'm keen to get feedback so that I can rebalance if required :)
I am happy to tweak balance, I just need more feedback. =)

how rare are the ore veins? i was going in circles around my base up to almost 15km and havent find any

Interesting everyone seems to be going for the no add map version, 3 times more so far. XD
I am curious if people like the added difficulty, or if they just rather no add maps + a longer ranged ore detector to compensate :P
I can see the appeal of both. Though personally I like the added difficulty.
