[Update Note] I deleted most of my old mods from the workshop, as I don't plan on updating them anymore. There's a link on my profile if you want to take them over. The other mods in the workshop will all be updated to 1.5. Please be patient.

Updated.

1.4 maybe? Please? I had just found this when the update hit, and it was really nice for a tribal start...

This mod's great fun with real ruins and vanilla genetics expanded (and a minification mod). Maybe mendandrecycle. Makes it so you can feel more like you're playing scavengers living in scrap.

@CanadianSnow This might be possible using RIMMSqoL. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1084452457

I'd love to see the cost/upkeep/research cost be customizable in the mod settings <3

This mod gave me an idea, what about a makeshift heater to go along side with the makeshift cooler. Same deal with the makeshift cooler (same cost for building it and maintenance) but if not maintained can catch fire or set the room temperature to where things can catch fire (be that
wood flooring, walls, items or colonists).

Oh god i was looking for something like this!

Something that started bothering me on Rimworld design overall, is the concept of Neolithic\Medieval\Industrial\Spacer~etc

Like. Okey, there may be colonies and civilizations that doesn't advance that much.
That can be tribes. But, specially with the addon of so much clutter and wreakage, i started to look like "Why those tribes are neolithic? Why does a Neolithic tribe goes from almost cave-man status to space gods in the spam of 5 years?"

It would make much more sense, to see the stages of tech, go for more an "Avaible tech"
like "Survivers\Scavengers\Industrial~etc"

It would allow for tech levels to be more sci-fi and make the story less jarring.
This would piss off the Medieval\Viking\Roman only folks? Yeah but.... Rimworld is a scifi game.
Heck, the naming convention of the techs could even end up tied up to the type of colony and ideology in the future ~~

@Feldspar There are already, like, six mods that add ways to preserve food in medieval colonies, but Rimworld isn't a medieval world. There is industrial wreckage all over the place, ancient buildings filled with mechanoids, and factions with straight up modern or futuristic technology all in the same world.

I love this!!!

Makeshift furniture. MAKESHIFT FURNITURE. WHY HAS NO ONE ELSE THOUGHT OF THIS.
Ganymede 29 Aug, 2021 @ 11:19am
Forgive me, I phrased my question strangely. I'm enjoying using your mod in my games, thank you.
CanadianSnow 29 Aug, 2021 @ 6:02am
Freaking people trying to control your mod.
Hykal 28 Aug, 2021 @ 8:22am
Thanks for the mod! This really fits into my post apocalyptic tribal run!
ambi 28 Aug, 2021 @ 8:17am
great mod. thank you
Feldspar 28 Aug, 2021 @ 4:03am
lady you made this mod bc you dont want food spoiling in a medieval setting? why not make a mod that makes sense for that setting someone who barely has gunpowder wouldnt have any electricity so for your setting id go with something like salting or ice boxes both of wich were hevily used during those times (keep in mind not ragging on the mod its a great idea just giving you an idea for what you said your games setting is have a good one)
TurtleShroom 26 Aug, 2021 @ 6:17pm
That's much better. Thank you very much.
Saint-Games 26 Aug, 2021 @ 4:17pm
Yo! Been wanting something like this, thanks!
Lyn the Cookie  [author] 26 Aug, 2021 @ 1:25pm
Fine, I reduced the cost back to the original, 35 Steel, 5 per day. I'm not making any more changes, y'all can make your own patches if you want.

@Ganymede Nope
Ganymede 26 Aug, 2021 @ 1:02pm
Is the cooler minifiable? It'd be a good solution for a nomadic colony
TurtleShroom 26 Aug, 2021 @ 12:56pm
You can balance that by upping the size, the initial cost, or both. What about letting it accept the entire Metallic Category of Resources instead of only Steel?
TurtleShroom 26 Aug, 2021 @ 12:55pm
Not really. There's only so much Steel on the Map. I'd say should take twenty Steel.
Lyn the Cookie  [author] 26 Aug, 2021 @ 12:13pm
I'm sure you can get 42 Steel in 7 days.
Failsafe 26 Aug, 2021 @ 11:16am
@LadyCookie 42 a week is too much. how about 7 or 14 a week?
TurtleShroom 26 Aug, 2021 @ 11:08am
Forty-two a week? That's pretty insane. Everything else is a good idea, though.
Lyn the Cookie  [author] 26 Aug, 2021 @ 8:28am
@TurtleShroom I actually was rebalancing it as you were typing. Increased the size to 2x2, increased the steel cost to 120, increased the research cost to 1000 Industrial, and the Steel requirement to 42/week.
TurtleShroom 26 Aug, 2021 @ 7:41am
Personally, I think it should be bigger than one tile.
Lyn the Cookie  [author] 26 Aug, 2021 @ 5:58am
@Failsafe I don't know, I kind of agree with Hatoful Pengu. This cooler is already a stretch; I feel like I should have made it 2x2, so you would need more materials and space, and increase the research cost a little. I made it just because sometimes I don't want to worry about food spoiling in my medieval villages.

@PantherHardraad It goes to -5 degrees celsius.
Failsafe 26 Aug, 2021 @ 5:46am
Can you work on more makeshift things?
MiTHRiL 26 Aug, 2021 @ 3:54am
DIY bby!
PantherHardraad 25 Aug, 2021 @ 9:31pm
what temperature does it drop a room to? Is it possible to have a larger variant?
Hatoful Pengu 25 Aug, 2021 @ 8:23pm
I third the desire for more makeshift stuff, though admittedly it's hard to think of much that could work. There isn't really that much need for a makeshift heater when we already have campfires (...) maybe a makeshift lamp? Or a makeshift auto-door? Ooo, or a hydroponics basin? Those seem a little complicated to improvise with scrap alone, but then again, so do turrets, and we have improvised turrets which iirc are basically vanilla makeshift turrets, at least by flavor alone.

Ah, but of course you don't have to make any of these if you don't want to! I just think the idea is really neat and enjoyed the thought exercise of coming up with more stuff it could apply to.
big tobacco 25 Aug, 2021 @ 9:29am
we NEED more makeshift stuff
Hamacelos 25 Aug, 2021 @ 8:53am
cool mod , a makeshift collection would be very cool
