Turrets now require ammo

I would look but due to current situation I am without a pc

Is it possible to create an automatic turret (without the need for a guard), even if the requirements to build it are extreme, with the use of "AI core" for example, for a single character base? I like to take risks playing solo.

dk man, I just figured it'd add more to the gameplay element to allow turrets to require ammo so I generally just did that, anything else would require another mod to solve the elements you guys are disliking, although I do agree if your turret is trying to shoot through terrain could it possibly be another mod conflict?
Salty Oreos 18 Nov, 2024 @ 4:06pm
maybe side grades that intentionally decrease the range?
Scar  [author] 18 Nov, 2024 @ 3:58pm
lowering the range would be ideal however it'd effect everyone especially those that build in open/flat areas
Salty Oreos 18 Nov, 2024 @ 12:44pm
idk why steam notified me about this page
Salty Oreos 18 Nov, 2024 @ 12:44pm
possibly lowering the range of the turrets could fix that issue in a roundabout way
Scar  [author] 17 Nov, 2024 @ 11:13pm
Probably not as it's more of a game issue I guess, my mod just changes the turrets to use ammo

Is there a mod that fixes turret logic to stop shooting things behind hills, rocks, mountains, walls, buildings etc? Because my turrets would waste all their ammo constantly... on things they can't hit.
And while i would LOVE to use this, that fact makes it a hard pass =/ which sucks.

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2897160411 Think I've done it, try it out and let me know, just done it quickly but all should be well.

Appreciate it.
I'm using a handful of mods to change up gameplay, and I'm already using a mod that makes building walls and stuff significantly more expensive, so why not toss turrets needing ammo on top? :lunar2019piginablanket:
Scar  [author] 3 Dec, 2022 @ 2:47pm
I could although with I figured if I did that with this mod it would get even less people subscribing to it, I mean people don't like or want hard, but I will consider doing a seperate one for you.
Salty Oreos 3 Dec, 2022 @ 12:45pm
Any chance you could make a version where the default crossbow turrets need ammo as well?
Feels weird to have the rest need ammo but the basic design not require any.

Not that I'm aware off, I'm not great at modding this is generally my first for this game, but if anyone can improve upon it, that'd be great.

I was initially going to make it all 1 ammo type but it seemed to be too numerous or unfair, although crossbows are self explanatory with regular bolts and then harpoons will use that ammo

so just remember bolts for crossbow turrets, harpoons for everything else

Is there any way to put the ammo need on the turret? so u can see ingame what type of ammo it needs.

Love this idea! Thank-you for making this mod, instant subscribing! Realistic and difficulty is what Kenshi is suppose to be, and this mod now makes me think and strategise more about turret placement and resources etc.

When my crossbowmen run out of ammo, I have to micro task to fill back up their quiver so I think your mod makes perfect sense.

I wonder if you had considered making a mod similar to this, but regarding tool kits and lockpicking? I hate how easy it is to lockpick with fingers? and tool kits just aren't needed when lockpicking is high. It would be great to have to need to use a tool kit to open locks (like how a skeleton slowly uses up all uses of a skeleton repair kit).

have fun!

@Flamekeeper: True! That's a very good advice. :)
Scar  [author] 11 Sep, 2021 @ 9:09pm
I mean worse case scenario you can simply place a box near the turret, pause the game, get the person to open the box while paused and grab the ammo that way
Snuggl 11 Sep, 2021 @ 9:07pm
@Flamekeeper: Yeah, i understand the "oh man, i forgot the bolts" idea and agree. That works well for battles that happen as announced events. In unannounced spontanous battles that you often only notice over character icons turning orange, it adds too much stress to me as they can be very hard to fight off already. So i would really like it if they would pull bolts from chests automatically (you could place tiny bolt chests close to the turrets and have bolt producers keep them filled) and / or if you could turn it into a job a character could have so there would always be someone running around and making sure all turrets are fully loaded.

I don't know if all of that would work anyway but i thought i'd share my thought. :) At the moment your mod would make battles more frustrating to me (and i already am someone that reloads very often) but only you know whatcha gonna do with it. :D
Scar  [author] 10 Sep, 2021 @ 9:12am
I could possibly look in to it, I mean sometimes I do have to assign my person to work the steel machine but also to haul the steal to the box but what you suggested would be cool, unfortunately I'm new to modding in kenshi and I had a "What if" scenario with what if we had to use ammo for turrets like we do for crossbows.

It's a cool mod definitely adds immersion, but some people think it maybe too micro managey which I understand, I just see it as no different that getting your guys to do the regular tasks theyre doing with everything else.

plus you could be like "oh maan, forgot the bolts" and feel goofy for doing so and then praying the battle still goes well lmao
Snuggl 10 Sep, 2021 @ 3:58am
@Flamekeeper: Thank you for the quick response! I guess that's an engine limitation then? Because then you have to make sure that your gunners carry enough bolts (more micro management). It would be awesome if they would reload them like they restock production benches, so the gunners would run to chests and you could even make it a job for a separate non-gunner character.

Still a good mod though and i like details like that that make the game a little more realistic. :)
Scar  [author] 9 Sep, 2021 @ 8:47pm
Literally nothing changes apart from turrets requiring ammo which is why I didn't add that info, and yes bolts in inventory, I figured that would've been obvious because how else would you load the turret without the bolts? and no they don't run to the chest to grab more bolts
Snuggl 9 Sep, 2021 @ 8:12pm
I think it would be helpful to include information on how the turrets are reloaded. Do the gunners automatically reload them when the barrels are empty? Meaning they run to the next crossbow bolt chest that contains the necessary bolts? Do they use the bolts in their inventory?

I presume npcs will continue as normal, I mean I have no intentions of letting the npcs stay on turrets when I raid them so you'll probably have to let me know
7sky 5 Sep, 2021 @ 1:33pm
what about npcs will they be able to shot or need ammo too
Scar  [author] 2 Sep, 2021 @ 12:24am
I haven't so far I've been looking at jrpg models, player prisoners, more blueprints they're the kind of mod I go for, I try to go for part realism but also not too realistic because that can ruin the fun for me unfortunately
Amok Harvest 1 Sep, 2021 @ 10:28pm
Thats how modding goes mate. I'm a fan of making things more realistic. Ive been working on a total world overhaul that adds all sorts of these types of mechanics in - it's based off Interactive World. Have you taken a look at that mod?
Scar  [author] 1 Sep, 2021 @ 10:26pm
Thanks, shame the 215 other people didn't like this mod, thought it'd add more fun to the game plus make it a little better :/
Amok Harvest 1 Sep, 2021 @ 10:17pm
Nice idea. I didn't even consider this. Great work. :-)
