But, from what i remember, you can see ammo caps on weapons. If it is different from the base game, challenging is working. (i think 120 reserve for pistol, 12 for 357 and 30 for shotgun)
I am specifically interested in Nightmare difficulty, but I can go for others if that one won't work on existing save.
oof 50% cap? good luck xD
do i need to switch the difficulty setting from the default 'black mesa' in the options screen, or does your nightmare mod just override the in-game difficulty settings completely?
it's a shame that they won't let you adjust ammo/health pickups :(
i can't see what difference it would make if we're not playing multiplayer?
either way, i am role playing it.
i have enforced a 50 % cap on both armour and health.
also,
ammo (in reserve):
pistol = 50
shotgun = 30
machine gun = 60
it's fine, but i had to replay 'we've got hostiles' quite e few times to get used to the marines AI & the hit scan attacks.
no worries, it's all good!
cheers for clarifying.
i'll try the 'hard' mode first.
so if i have the most up-to-date version of black mesa, do i need to create a custom folder with the relevant file, or do i only need to click subscribe to try out the hard mode?
Wish the enemies weren't so tanky, to the point where it's impossible to avoid damage. The marines are a lot of fun, but the way they're so accurate, as if they're locked on to you, even from behind walls, can make these encounters a bit of a doozy. Really cool concept though. Given the player's fragility, I wouldn't mind a slight change, such as slightly more weapon damage, or maybe increase enemy flinching or just reduce their health. Up to you, though. Rly good mod.
Not a big deal tho.
Again - thanks for your great mod !
First of all: No bugs were found so far. The only insignificant one is kevlar model sometimes clipping through the ground (but you can still pick it up) and it only happens if you picked the item into your hands and then dropped it.
Second: Man the Nightmare difficulty is hell of a fun! At last some real challenge (but not the insane - still doable).
Besides "Extra Difficulties" mod I only used some sound\texture mods along with classic HL1 ammo capacity mod. Nothing that could interfere with this one. Everything was installed manually into custom folder.
Thanks again @autor ! Totally recommend if challenging firefight is what you looking for.
Kevlar:
The kevlar concept is really good. The fact you lose on 3/4 of your effective armor due to HEV chargers that give 74 PoA (Points of Armor) not being here is played really well. The kevlar itself is also really nicely modeled (even though it sometimes levitates). One thing I noticed is that it gives you more armor (20 PoA instead of 15 PoA) and I think the armor itself is worth a LOT more. The absorption must be higher cuz I find myself withstanding so muhc dmg even with 40 PoA. I genuinly think this is a good balance. Less armor but the armor is worth more.
One thing you could add is maybe getting some armor like 10 PoA from fallen Security Guards like in Blue Shift same way you get armor in Xen from other HEV suits.
If someone says that the DMG is way too high or says that its too hard. Shut up, its suppose to be hard.Even with 100 HP you withstand basically nothing. Shotgun can oneshot you from up close or take 27 HP from mid-long range.
MP5 deals a significant DMG to the player, but not so much to the armor.
The impacts and 'nades dont give a fuck about kevlar, they will flatten you anyway. Really nice.
The only BS I find with hitscan DMG is from turrets. Sure, I get they are suppose to be scary, but maybe its too high. One thing I also found is that it penetrates kevlar so much. At the end of "Questionable Ethics" I picked off all the grunts and one turret. Then the second one annihilated me in 2 secs flat even with more than half the armor and HP. Maybe a bug, maybe meant to be. But since you encounter them so little, it doesnt matter that much.
Lets get the fish out of the bag into the water first. Itchiosaurus? Ichiosaur..? Ichticho... The Fish deals one shots 95% of the time. First, I hated it. But then in SF I kinda liked it. Due you lacking anything hard for it bite through, you are basically that scientist in Aprehension. A midnight snack.
Headcrabs damage is too low. Headcrabs should do I bit more damage since you lack HEV and before someone says "bUt GoRdOn DoEsn'T hAve a HeLMet wItH HEV and sTiLL reSiSts HeAdcRabs EasiLY." First of all, true. Kinda. Gordon never wears a helmet in promotional materials and scientist even mentions the helmet is optional, so Gordon probably doesnt have it. But still, he has HEV suits then, now he doesnt. And still, it would be balanced since you have the one shot option on them with the best weapon, the Crowbar. So, they should do more DMG since its a naked guy vs. some spiders with vagi-
The Xen grunts are, as expected, tanky and with high dmg. Maybe the DMG could be knocked down a bit, like 10% maybe but even now. It's still managable. You just cant shotgun rush em so much now.
The vorts are in a great spot. Cant complain about them.
Bullsquid is a wild one. Just like The Fish, it has a 1 hit K.O. if you lack armor or have too little of it.Personally, my opinions on it are mixed. It can be frustrating to get killed over and over by it. But it's attack are arcing kinda slow projectiles, so its fine.
Other means of damage:
Why does kevlar get "hurt" by cold? Anything else is okay imo. Obviously you cant withstand fire from a chopper or some radioactive shit or burning fire, so its good.
Well, thats all I have to say so far. If you have any question or something, be sure to let me know.
PS: Love this mod.
anyway, idea behind the mod is really good. just don't touch gonarch too much, it is already hard on hard xD
- do you plan to change weapon damage values? it would be amazing to see COD style hardcore weapons in the game.
i went to game options settings and i don't see harder/challenging and nightmare tho
