I believe that fix works. I was able to fix it a similar way, which is now released here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3506588089
AniGa 20 Mar @ 11:22am
Can anyone confirm if The fix one comment prior works?

I think I figured out how to fix this mod and make it work again. Question is how do I share the fixed mod with you guys?

If you want to fix it by yourself, follow steps bellow:
1. open this file
Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\763890\2607356545\assets\data\effects\kidRecruit\officialNotification.json

2. Find this sentence
{ "class": "ChangeControl", "target": "volunteer", "makeHero": true },

3. Change it into
{ "class": "ChangeControl","target": "volunteer","becomeAllyOf": "hero3","makeHero": true },

"Tools : fixed bug where family targeting (PARENT_OF, CHILD_OF, etc) didn't work for targeting legacy heroes."

Patch 1.16.554

Does this mean anything for this mod ?

miss this

If only I knew how, I'd genuinely just make a functioning mod like this myself. Sadly, I don't... wonder if the developer will ever return and update it one day. That'd be awesome.
Specter 1 Oct, 2024 @ 10:07am
Would love it if this mod could get an update for the current version of the game. It was such a good mod and should have been something available in the base game.

Thanks for making my adventures that much more fun.
Aki WildQueen 16 Sep, 2024 @ 9:03pm
I really enjoyed being able to have a family tree of my children coming back to me in this game whenever I replayed it. Thank you so much for making this mod. I'm really sad that this seems to have stopped working since the new update/version came out. May we please get an update/fix for this amazing mod? Thanks again! :winter2019happyyul:

Polite request to update this mod to the current version of Wildermyth
Naravolian 14 Aug, 2023 @ 2:26am
@AniGa The mod does not work as intended for the current version of Wildermyth. While the base game doesn't have this mod's specific feature, you can still recruit children as legacy heroes in towns during your campaign - after the initial recruitment comic (which will treat the legacy child as a stranger, unfortunately), the game will recognize the relationship between your legacy children and parents.
AniGa 13 Aug, 2023 @ 5:06pm
So does this mod currently work...? Or is it a base game functionality by now? Would like to know the state of affairs, so to say.
Janton 25 Feb, 2023 @ 10:39am
This mod doesn't work. As with previous commenters, i got the comic saying the legacy child has come of age and then nothing, no legacy version, no random kid at all.
Beat-up Mac 11 Dec, 2022 @ 3:09am
I have the same issue as zizzy, Naravolian, and BlueCorvid. I get the comic saying the legacy child has come of age, but they don't go to their ability selection screen and they don't show up in chapter interval or overland. I tried the suggested fixes by other commenters: unsubbed/resubbed to the mod, disabled/enabled child in legacy, checked/unchecked the mod both in main menu and in-game. I even disabled all event mods (boojum's, wracke's, etc) and legacy-related mods (promote/recruit all, etc). No results. I don't really feel like doing a full test by removing all my mods and re-enabling them to see if any were conflicting. I just wanna play. I think I'll just recruit them at the next town, no great loss.
jaylanrme 30 Aug, 2022 @ 2:13pm
The mod simply isn't working at all for me. On top of the already established comic issue, the child is NOT one from my legacy. It is a randomly generated child
Naravolian 23 Aug, 2022 @ 8:46am
@zizzy86 & @BlueCorvid, did you guys by any chance have the kids disabled in your legacy, and then you re-enabled them before going into peacetime?
Because I did, and when I disabled them again, the game (successfully) gave me a new kid instead.
zizzy86 23 Aug, 2022 @ 8:01am
I love the idea of this but unfortunately I had the same bug as BlueCorvid and Naravolian
Naravolian 7 Aug, 2022 @ 2:51am
I ran into the same bug as @BlueCorvid
fae.briona 24 Jul, 2022 @ 5:08am
Love the idea, but not yet seen any legacy children being pulled -- with one parent or both active in gaem
BlueCorvid 19 Jul, 2022 @ 3:12pm
One of my legacy characters had his kid join during peacetime but then when I got to the buying equipment stage, the kid wasn't there. I got the comic for him reaching adventuring age, and then he just... never appeared in the party. D:
opaj  [author] 4 Mar, 2022 @ 6:30pm
My best guess is that it's because Yoka retired in a past chapter, but I'm not 100% certain on that.
AniGa 27 Feb, 2022 @ 10:41pm
So my characters Akiko and Yoka had a child called Joweth in a previous campaign... they got together in the newest campaign too, had kids - but neither of them was Joweth. (Yoka retired in a past chapter already, Akiko still isn't retired.) Why is the mod not pulling Joweth here?
Mis Nomer 14 Feb, 2022 @ 11:54pm
opaj the reason it took so long for me to start noticing it didn't seem to be working was precisely because it took so long for the game to throw together the right parents, I read the Description three times before posting my comment to make sure I was understanding it correctly but I was having single parents who had an existing legacy child generate a new one as a single parent. It happened a couple of times.

So maybe the issue I had was 2. I think I was playing a longer game at the time it first happened but then it happened a couple other times. Anyway, at least I know it works now.

A couple other mods I've used I probably wouldn't care that much if it didn't work but this was one of the ones I wanted to work the most so thank you for making it!
Giallo 14 Feb, 2022 @ 9:03am
Thanks Opaj for taking your time to answer in detail. It might be just my speculation, the game seems to pull a child if I have a party of four or less heroes, or if some of the heroes will soon retire bringing the total party count to less than five. I say this because I play a lot of campaigns with five heroes, recluiting asap and those heroes has no children. It might be an issue of the mod which gives more procedural campaign variants, dont know... Thing is the few campaigns I played with three or four heroes, I had then plenty of children, two per couple, but up to a grandpa-grandnephew degree... I dont know if it was just coincidence or if it is correlated.

Reply to Mis Nomer and Giallo Pt 2

In my experience, there are two main culprits for not seeing many/any legacy children in your campaign:

1. Through sheer bad luck, Wildermyth isn't choosing the right parents. My mod has no control over what parents get selected, so if you keep getting Joe Schmo as a parent, who's a new character and has no legacy anything, then you won't see legacy kids, either.

2. Some other mod (or game process) is reserving the legacy children for other events behind the scenes. I've only experienced this with extremely long modded campaigns, however, so if you're playing more normal campaigns, I'd be surprised if this comes up enough to make a noticeable impact.

I'm not actively modding Wildermyth at the moment, but comment any experiences you have here and I'll take them into account next time I come back to this. I hope you have better luck getting legacy kids!
opaj  [author] 12 Feb, 2022 @ 8:36pm
(Ugh! I had a long reply typed up, but Steam gave me an error and I forgot to save it. Dang.)

(And now it's telling me my comment is too long. So...)

Reply to Mis Nomer and Giallo Pt 1

Here's how child selection should work with this mod is installed:

1. Wildermyth decides that your party needs some new children during years of peace.
2. Wildermyth picks one or two parents, generates a child, and shows you a comic.
3. My mod intercepts the comic and checks to see if there are any available legacy children for the selected parent(s).
4. If there are valid legacy children for those specific parent(s), my mod removes the newly generated child and slots in the legacy child.
Mis Nomer 12 Feb, 2022 @ 11:51am
I ended up unsubscribing and resubscribing and finally got a legacy child being pulled. I'm not sure why it didn't work previously. Only happened once so far but at least I know it's working now.
Giallo 11 Feb, 2022 @ 3:01am
I'm trying this as well, but so far I didn't see any legacy children being pulled. Could be unlucky
Mis Nomer 7 Feb, 2022 @ 12:34am
Can someone confirm if this has ever worked for them? I really want this to work but my game keeps creating new offspring instead of using the offspring in my Legacy, even when the children in my Legacy match the required criteria to be used.
Mis Nomer 4 Feb, 2022 @ 3:11am
Will it ALWAYS use the Legacy child when it's available and meets the criteria? Because my game just generated a random child when there was a valid Legacy child available. So far this mod hasn't worked as described for me, I've had it for a while and I have yet seen it pull an existing Legacy child from my Legacy.
Giallo 1 Feb, 2022 @ 3:46am
Great mod here, thanks for creating it! It is implied to have Allow Random Children ON with the heroes, right? As I understand, the mod won't pull any legacy children otherwise, can you confirm?
opaj  [author] 26 Jan, 2022 @ 8:58pm
@low IQ haver
Having two parents is in the base game. My mod doesn't add that.
low IQ haver 26 Jan, 2022 @ 7:39pm
@opaj It's just that I noticed in the screenshot it says the child is the daughter of two characters, and from what I've seen and read that doesn't happen in the base game and it will just pick one character. Is another mod doing that, is it this mod, or is that in the base game now and I just haven't seen it?
opaj  [author] 26 Jan, 2022 @ 7:16pm
@low IQ haver
This mod shouldn't affect who appears in a child's relationship tab. That's all decided by the game engine somewhere. I've observed that sometimes a child is born from only one parent even when that parent is in a relationship, particularly if the child is older than the relationship. I assume this is to represent children from previous relationships, though I haven't looked at it too closely.
low IQ haver 22 Jan, 2022 @ 6:20pm
so does this mod make is so that when a character has a lover and then is chosen to have a child, both will be listed as parents in the child's relationship tab? it was my understanding (and experience) that in vanilla the game will only list one parent no matter what. just to be clear, this mod adds the ability for a character to have two parents?
NameHunter 19 Jan, 2022 @ 7:33am
@opaj I guess I misunderstood. If its just a break in the ui but they are still linked then that's fine. Thank you for clearing it up!
opaj  [author] 15 Jan, 2022 @ 7:50pm
@NameHunter -- No timeline on the fix, I'm afraid. The break is purely in the UI, but I totally understand your desire not to use it in the meantime.
NameHunter 4 Jan, 2022 @ 11:41am
any progress on the known bug? Kinda don't want to use it until it doesn't break that parent-child relationship from a retired character.
SpaceSR 16 Dec, 2021 @ 1:59pm
ooh, I love this. I got this game recently and i was just worried about replaying my legacy characters and either having to forget their children or end up with way too many Legacy characters that I saved just because of their parents.
opaj  [author] 14 Dec, 2021 @ 6:47pm
@greenninja1201 In the situation you described, the game should generate a random child.

There's one possible edge case I can think of: if the parent hero falls in love late in life, they might have a child join the campaign without counting their lover as one of the parents. In that case, I would expect the legacy child to appear.
RazorSynth 12 Dec, 2021 @ 4:24pm
@greenninja1201 that is what my main question is
greenninja1201 7 Dec, 2021 @ 5:38pm
What if Someone Has a child, then in another campaign they fall in love. Will a random child be generated or will the legacy child be pulled
Chilitoke 7 Dec, 2021 @ 9:38am
@opaj Thanks for the feedback, later is better than never.
I gave it a shot and it did indeed work in an ongoing campaign.
opaj  [author] 30 Nov, 2021 @ 6:35pm
@Chilitoke Well, this answer is probably coming late, but in my experience you should be able to add it to an ongoing campaign.
Chilitoke 12 Nov, 2021 @ 12:29pm
Can this be slotted in to an ongoing campaign or should i do a new run?
linkfire12 7 Oct, 2021 @ 4:52am
This is exactly what I was hoping for when I played the game, excellent mod.
TamTroll 30 Sep, 2021 @ 7:56pm
that's fair. i was definitely thinking player-set chance too.
opaj  [author] 30 Sep, 2021 @ 6:27pm
@TamTroll
As long as there's a legacy child that matches the criteria, that's the child you'll get. New kids will only show up when there are no valid legacy children to choose from. Because the parents are chosen at random, you could end up with a mix by having some heroes with legacy children and some heroes without in your party.

I could make it a percentage chance, but I'd want that percentage to be set by the player, and I don't know of an elegant way to achieve that at this time.
TamTroll 30 Sep, 2021 @ 1:47pm
Is it guaranteed legacy children? or is there still a chance for newly generated kids as well? Definitely plugging this mod into future games, but i'm still open to new kids being made, so i'm wondering if that's possible or if it's limited to legacy kids.
MeBL 26 Sep, 2021 @ 10:20pm
I think this is one of those features that should be added in the vanilla game.
opaj  [author] 26 Sep, 2021 @ 12:35pm
I've ascertained the nature of the bug and determined that it's not game-breaking. Will list this mod again and add the bug to "known issues"; I'll try to get a fix out in the next week.

(I'd do it sooner, but again--going on a long flight today! Whoops!)
