Multiplayer:
You can make the map appear in regular Single Player and Multiplayer by putting it in the main game files.
You do this by copying the .civ5map file found in Documents > my games > Sid Meiers Civilization V > MODS
and placing it inside
C: > Program Files > Steam > Steamapps > Common > Sid Meiers Civilization V > assets > maps.
This will work with ANY Workshop Map. (Not mods or scenarios.)
All I can do now is hope that they read my emails.
I would think having your stuff on a different drive would be something a lot of people do. Oh I think it would be interesting to play this at a higher level of age using the Alpha Centauri Civ mods to show them landing on a very different Planet.
works for me.
If you had put it in assets earlier, you should delete it, just in case that's the one that is showing up on your list instead.
Try the map with no more than 24 City States, too.
On the bright side, this won't be happening to you with most maps in the workshop.
I'm still going to be running some tests to see if I can find a workaround.
I know that error happens for sure in common > Civ V > assets > maps.
Try to run it in regular Single Player on the main menu instead of through Mods.
If it works there it might just be another mod that isn't compatible with it.
You take the .Civ5map file from that folder and put it inside Documents > my games > Civ V > maps
If it doesn't find the map in there you'll want to make the path on the same drive Civilization V is in.
And to anyone who might be reading this that has Civ V installed on C:, you don't have to worry about any of this.
What's happening is that despite you manually copying the map to assets, it's not setting any of the starting points contained in the map. It's apparently one of the functions that only happens when activated through Mods.
Fortunately, you'll barely encounter this, as most maps don't require starting points (only full desert/snow maps).
I'm going to be sending 2K an email about fixing the problem with maps when installing the game on a drive other than C:. I'll also try to see if there's a file in the game that can be modified to make the maps install correctly for those of you with the game on different drives.
Any other map in the workshop should work for you by inserting it directly into the assets though.
You did a solid on everyone who had the game on a different drive problem though, since no one seemed to have figured out what was happening.
Glad you found a solution. I hope that's what was going on with the others as well.
I'm going to see if there's some way to alter Civ so it places the maps in the correct folder when activated. It would save you guys the trouble of having to manually place every new map you get.
Do you guys have the Gods & Kings expansion?
On the other hand, none of my maps seem to work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? And yes, I'm pressing "next" after activating the maps in the mod window.
