Love these little things, they're really great for an early start.

Looking forward to oil tanks, bus and concrete mixer so I can push my 1918 start back to a 1908 start.

Groovy! Anything that adds to the early game is welcome in my book. I've moved from a 1919 start to a 1905 start. It is *tough.*

I plan to add more to the series similar to the horses. Covered Hull and dumper will be next.

As an addendum, they would make an awesome jumping point between the 1900s horses and the 1917 Mack trucks.

You can pretty easily make a whole construction set of these things. I mean, a traction engine is the same as a horse, really. Sling an flatbed trailer on one and you can haul cement, concrete, aggregates, and whatever else you can nail to the trailer.

Right now just fuel but I plan to add a coal tender next week.

Is this eating crops, fuel or could it run on coal?

The horses still have their own niche in cosmonaut mode where they are very cheap to build yourself with the horse breeder and only eat crops.

Steam vehicles require being made in a proper automobile plant which requires a lot of investment to get up and running. So basically vehicle progression goes:

Horses -> Steam -> GAZ-AA 1929 -> Vanilla game vehicles

You're putting your own horses out of a job...
