Working on updating the mod to support b42. Going to maintain support for b41 as well. I've restructured the files accordingly. Fixed the bug where you receive a spawn item every time you load a game instead of only when a new game is created since I used the wrong event for that. I've updated the sandbox options so you can turn off dying from withdrawal sickness as well.
I'll hopefully get the updated version up on the workshop soon. I want to do some more testing and implement a few more things before I do. trying to keep most of the code shared between b41 and b42 aside from things that I can't liked TimeActions being changed a bit. The GUI addon will be updated with the core mod as well most likely as I just need to make a small update to it.
Autodrink add-on will come later as they added flasks in b42 and how recipes are structured in general with the new fluid system.

Can confirm that you might insta-die with no health bar decrease in phase 4, happened to me after 7 days sober. I appreciate the mod so thanks, but I wish I knew this before (I had an emergency beer 😫)

The mod has a "withdrawal death chance." It straight up just kills you with no health bar decreasing or sickness after 7 days. it cannot be reduced to 0 in the sandbox options

Phase 1 can be countered with just smoking 1 cigarette and you never get to experience any of the rest.
playing with this since over a week now and at no point did my character want actual "alcohol".
also, every time i log in, i now have one empty beer bottle in my inventory now that wasnt there before.

I am back into PZ and updating this mod currently so its ready for b42. I've restructured all of the code and fixing all the stuff I overlooked. Plus, I think some stuff has changed since I wrote this mod. I've removed the dependency to Mod Options as it will now use sandbox options instead.
I will post an updated version soon.
I fixed the bug that applied alcoholic stress to people without the trait as well.
The way I applied happiness was incorrect as well so that is fixed up.
I've revamped the events and now hook into the timed action for consuming drinks which seems to work a lot better than how I had it before.
The new code structure is going to allow me to add separate features easily as well. Main thing I'd like to implement first is an auto-drink alcohol feature that will play nicely with the smoker trait and autosmoke mod.
I'm trying to make sure the mod can be updated on existing games as well just incase so it shouldnt break anything (I hope).

Anyone know of a mod out there that allows you to set a passive alcohol drinking like you do with water...that would go well with this mod

After overcoming the alcoholic trait, I'm still permanently stressed. Maybe this could be fixed the same way the Quit Smoking mod did?

I do not recommended this mod for multiplayer. Seems to impose alcoholic stress effects on other players that don't even possess the trait.

It looks like being really sick comes with a chance of dying from it. I tested it with a blank character. I added more customization options to change how much poison damage is applied and the chances of it being applied. Should help fine tune how it acts.

Your seasickness would not interfere with that of the game, accelerating the character's death.

Maybe you can limit it to 65. But drinking just a little bit of poisoned water or a berry can already lead to death, which wouldn't make much sense.
Couldn't you create a separate sickness effect from vanilla?

Yeah, I still have to play around with how I apply the poison to make it not kill the character randomly in the long-run if you're trying to sober up.
You can enable/disable the withdrawal poison and increase or decrease the amount of sickness it applies in the options now though while I try to find the sweet spot.

In this latest version, the character no longer dies of poisoning, however, the poising level rarely exceeds 50. (No more than 25 to stage 4)
it is very rare to see the nausea moodlet, becoming redundant.

AlcoholicThreshold is a counter that goes up each drink. Goes back down every hr slowly. If you go above it then you will become an alcoholic (if not already).

I'll add some comments for the next upload. I got some ideas to play with.

I'll check the poison thing some more too!

I know the basics of programming, but your code looks very simple and nice...beautiful...

I just missed comments on the functions

Please continue with the mod, in multiplayer it will generate a very good alternative to Smoker, but perhaps a deadly combination...

had to remove the increasePoison from the thealcoholicevents.lua file
killed 2 different chars at day 4, only the alcoholic trait, tested on debug mode
