Feedback:
The "vegan leather" is useful a "naked & affraid" playthrough with a pawn that is bad at both hunting & taming (fishing does not provide leather/scales), or can not kill animals because of Ideology/trait.
[ A random predator may hunt some big game for you to get some leather from the leftover corpse, but this is unreliable in most biomes and completely undoable on some. ]
Since there is no guarantee of "getting" (buying or stripping) a parka for winter (specially for high latitudes were it may be freezing much sooner); having the option to transform any "starch" food into a facsimile of plastic for a low_quality life_saving garment is why I took this mod.
About the "sadness" mechanics -> It was just an idea.
My hope is that someone else reads it and makes that mod.
I like the extra sadness mechanics! I'm not planning to bring special mechanics for bonded animal leather into this mod since this mod aims to be pretty down to earth. Just unfortunate that "bonded leather" and "bonded animal leather" sound very similar but represent very different things!
About the "extra sadness" leather idea : [Requires Ideology DLC]
. In the "altar" (or equivalent), the pawn with the Priest/Moral_guide role performs a ritual using a [still living] bonded animal.
The process destroys the creature and produces generic, low_grade "soulbond_leather" (same ammount as normally obtained from that type of animal, if slaughtered and 100% butchered).
. In crafting recipes, it can only be used to create apparel that must cover the torso (heart), for variants with aditional covered parts (optional) it requires more soulbond_leather.
EFFECT -> Each one (soulbond_leather, torso_covering) item halves (x0.5, rounded up) of the value of each thought from losing bonded animals.
