Where is the link to download the mod?
Chromeo  [author] 25 Jan, 2021 @ 11:22am
It's the best I could do within the mechanics of the game.
Lydia1917 25 Jan, 2021 @ 12:23am
Socialism is when the government does stuff.
Mayer 23 Jan, 2021 @ 6:03am
Actually, GDP is the market value of all products and services and public or private makes no difference. The USSR had quite a high GDP actually.
A nationalized factory would still produce the same value, the socialist problem is lack of investors and capital to invest in said works, to expand and improve. Or the calculation problem when the whole economy is centralized and bureaucratic. Improving poverty is nice and increases consumption, but if the demands are not met you end up with shortages and unhappiness.

Democracy 4 doesn't seem to really add anything over Democracy 3 at present, however I might eventually get it and update the mod. If anyone who does have it wants to import the mod then I am okay with that if you link back to here.
ZDIGVO 11 Jan, 2021 @ 9:13am
Is there a willingness to update the mod to D4 by any chance? Was my favorite mod...
DNKTATOR 22 Nov, 2020 @ 9:59am
The fact is, even though the industry in this case is state owned, they still produce same things. Prices of things might go down (which is good for poor people), but why GDP?
Labargoth 22 Nov, 2020 @ 7:46am
Game design issue. GDP is specifically a measurement for capitalist economies so socialist ones will score worse. But ingame GDP is all the economic power and growth you have.
DNKTATOR 22 Nov, 2020 @ 7:40am
I know that both capitalism and socialism have their own pros and cons, I just thought that GDP shows whole production by nation inside the country, not cash-maker one
Chromeo  [author] 22 Nov, 2020 @ 4:46am
By capitalist standards, the nation would probably not produce as many cash goods for export and so by capitalist standards the nation's GDP would be reduced (or at least that is a rough approximation). However that downside is mitigated by the positive effects of the policy (like reducing unemployment and so on). I didn't want to just make the socialist policies 100% good with no downsides.
DNKTATOR 21 Nov, 2020 @ 11:59pm
Why does Nationalizing of industry lower GDP? It doesn't make a sense - people are same, they work as usual.

Is this because "planned economy IS uneffective" ? If so, you can add "cyber-planned economy" policy to your mod (like OGAS)
Daniel 29 Sep, 2020 @ 11:39am
@Alfredo Vermelho Privately owned industry is capitalist, you just admitted that Nazi Germany was capitalist.

Anyone else have issues with this mod playing? No matter what I do the policies don't come up
Joe The Eskimo 9 May, 2020 @ 6:48pm
"the fascist also nationalised their industry and give them to private german companies"

That's called privatization... it's literally the opposite.
Labargoth 25 Mar, 2020 @ 8:03am
*most socialist of inventions
Joey 21 Mar, 2020 @ 6:28pm
funny how the most capitalist of inventions is being used to spread socialism :steamfacepalm:
Goose 4 Jan, 2020 @ 4:24pm
@Alfredo Verlho this ^^. A more preferable conceptualization of socialism is democratization of the workplace and deconstructuion of power imbalances, making it so that all companies have to have a certain percentage of workers on their boards of administration, or the establishments of syndicates which are essentially super-unions.
Alfredo Vermelho 12 Dec, 2019 @ 6:33am
To nationalise one's industry is not necessarily socialism... just to make note, the fascist also nationalised their industry and give them to private german companies

Mate, mate, if you think that nationalizing banking system will increase gdp growth, you should read some economics 101. And no, I´m not a libertarian.
CLN Flushed 2 Sep, 2019 @ 8:26am
For everyone else: "vEnEzUeLa nOrTh kOrEa -insert random country- iS rEaL sOcIaLiSm"
See? I can do it too lmao, come back when you have a real argument, just typing a dumb sentence proves actually nothing.
CLN Flushed 2 Sep, 2019 @ 8:25am
Thirdly, multiple times, your answer has been basically fuck the working class, ignore them, the only people that count are entrepreneurs and only them matter when evaluating the success of capitalism. Implying a society of 100% entepreneurs with no working class could ever function and 100% of people can even become entepreneurs by their own means... It is exactly like ignoring global warming while evaluating the success of cars, or like ignoring the suffering of slaves while evaluating slavery, or evaluating the success of stairs while ignoring paraplegics. You seriously believe that everyone on this planet living a miserable life is doing so by his own choice? If so you're clearly the spoiled kid that has no clue what the real world is like. All your talk about "going out and getting the dream" when you're clearly massively privileged genuinely disgusts me.
Lastly, maybe try to counter an argument for once instead of literally just spewing unbacked opinions.
CLN Flushed 2 Sep, 2019 @ 8:25am
Sooo I've followed this thread for a while and lemme finally say @Quad, you're a dishonest hypocrytical dumbass.
First of all you have no problem admitting that "real capitalsim has not been implemented yet", but on the other hand you are hellbent on finding "real socialism" all over the place even if someone gives you genuine straightforward arguments proving the contrary everytime you bring this up. Lmao, dude, seriously?
Second of all, your rebuttal to a MERITOCRAT BY SELF ADMISSION is "you're socialist because you're an unemployed teenager who is used to living off other people because you want to live off the government, sitting in your basement, painting action figures with water paints." Are you for real this dense?
Lydia1917 1 Sep, 2019 @ 2:29am
Or the hard left and right unite against the neoliberal establishment and destabilize the system until it is a free-for-all.
But that would be just too crazy.
BronzeBat 29 Aug, 2019 @ 1:12pm
Listen retards, this is a game. If I wanna be a no good commie in a fucking game I should be able to do so without the comments section being littered with idiots on both sides spewing their opinions as if they were fact. Your pet ideologies are of no consequence in the end, none of you are in power and will most likely never fucking be. The world will be as it is, all of your opinions are meaningless, including mine honestly. We're all just ants and one day we will be squashed and that is fine because in the meantime we have games to play.

gutmangaspar 28 May, 2019 @ 10:10pm
Why in some games nationalizating manufacture is bad for GDP but in my case it was good?
Lydia1917 3 Apr, 2019 @ 12:46am
I get it but then again there are always those r-words commenting in here the same way their boomer parents would do.
ValyaG 3 Apr, 2019 @ 12:10am
Hey you guys, can you maybe cool it with the political commentary? Not that I'm opposed to discussion, it's just that the comments section on a mod should really be *about* the mod itself. These massive paragraphs make it hard to find people who may have the same technical issue.
Lydia1917 1 Apr, 2019 @ 4:24am
Article 12 of the USSR's constitution: "In the U.S.S.R. work is a duty and a matter of honour for every able-bodied citizen, in accordance with the principle: "He who does not work, neither shall he eat."

The principle applied in the U.S.S.R. is that of socialism : "From each according to his ability, to each according to his work.""

Nothing is given to people who don't work despite their ability to do so.

What you are thinking of is capitalism.
I love bohemian raspberry 31 Mar, 2019 @ 4:08pm
Socialism is a disease. It is just taking from the workers and giving to the lazy. It didn't work and it will never work. Look at Venezuela, look at North Korea or Cuba. You cant have Democracy with Socialism. And don't even start with the classic NPC argument: "BuT rEaL sOcIaLiSm HaSn'T bEeN tRiEd YeT." It has. Venezuela, NK, etc. IS real socialism
Max Pixel-47- 3 Feb, 2019 @ 2:31am
Hi. May you release a link for a manual installation? It seems that subscribing from Steam doesn't work anymore.
Parzival10 29 Jan, 2019 @ 4:42am
The basis of your philosophy appears to be that selfishness is human nature. This is not correct. Both selfishness and compassion are learned behaviors. While it is easier to learn the former than the latter, we should not assume that a good society is one which is too lazy to teach compassion instead of ego and instead tries to twist the selfish ego into doing good accidentally. Perhaps we should instead take the step to teach compassion, and strive for something a little higher.
Parzival10 29 Jan, 2019 @ 4:39am
Tautology aside, it is the duty of the people to advance the good of the people, and so, in a government of, by, and for the people, the government's duty is to advance the good of the people. Even when this is contrary to the immediate benefit of those who are already well off. I know what ownership is, but I am more than willing to say that the poor need more help than the rich, and that the rich can more than afford to pay for this. Since the wealthy have not done this, with few exceptions, it is the duty of the government to intercede on the behalf of the people.
Quad 28 Jan, 2019 @ 10:13pm
you kids are just confused on whos money is whos.
let me sum it up for you.

money
belongs
to
someone
if
they
own
it.

its not a legit role of government to redistribute wealth.
Quad 28 Jan, 2019 @ 10:08pm
i asked the guy with half a brain to tell me how socialism is beneficial and you (despite you not being part of this debate) decide to go off on a trigger tangent. kid. hush.
Dimm 28 Jan, 2019 @ 9:23pm
Yes the taxation of the poor and even middle earners is absolute corruption, but what do you expect from a dictatorship of the Bourgeoisie. Yet when people are championing for that money to be pulled from prison slavery and imperialist wars and instead to be used for public housing, schools and healthcare is freedom from poverty not a form of freedom? Of course it isn't perfect even in a dictatorship of the proliteriate, but what perfect freedom would result from a laissez faire government where the only freedoms afforded are to those that can afford it. But alas, for having even a concept of and insisting for egalitarianism in social and economic spheres I must be a naive furry art student.
Dimm 28 Jan, 2019 @ 9:23pm
You say that and yet you believe the Nazis were socialist. Denouncing or not using the 'free market' doesn't make you a socialist, if that were the case the merchantile empires of the past were socialist, the great tarrifs the British imposed on occupied India were socialist, the Roman empire with its slaves and tribute states was socialist. In all the issue of the Soviet Union it educated, housed, fed and industrialized tens of millions at a pace not seen in human history, post collapse we see none of that and only worse political and social policies. How can there be free socialist nations even Venezuela with only 30% in the public sector subject to a second coup in only 15 years and Chile even less resulting in Pinochet, but I'm sure he's your hero. What of the warlords, despots, and genocides aided by the west to subvert anything resebling socialism or reforms. Hell even the CIA supported Pol Pot against the Vietmanese.
