Well I majored in history and don't b... about my spelling im not american and am proud not one but javelins were used for breaking shields and skirmishes in all my studies I majored in Roman history the best and so this mod author is correct. But on the other note they were used also primarely for ambushes and major battles right when the enemy was close and were charging and they're deffences are down they'ed through those javelins and by doing so they could kill off 25% of the enemy.

Pila once thrown could not be pulled out and thrown back
Illuminare 20 Apr, 2015 @ 11:59am
this is quite true
Smoovest Brane 28 Feb, 2015 @ 5:09pm
@JEELEN, um yes, most javelins couldn't break through shields, which is why the roman's javelin or pilum was unique... IT COULD.
Spaceman27 26 Dec, 2014 @ 3:11pm
Does it carry over to the Longswordsmen ?
JEELEN 23 Dec, 2014 @ 12:35am
Actually, javelins weren't intended to 'break' shields, but to make them unusable. The javelin was a very weak spear, which would bend upon impact so it couldn't be thrown back. So this promotion is a wee bit OP.

Great work!
assassin1810 24 Nov, 2014 @ 2:32pm
Why do they throw torches instead of spears??

@Cmartel732 - it would require BNW
CMartel732 12 Oct, 2014 @ 9:03am
Okay. Added the Mod. Activated it. Nothing changes. Is there any unique requirement for Civ V ?

The slaughter of the pilas gives me a massive erection
calcul8or  [author] 2 Oct, 2014 @ 4:26pm
@FluffyBoobs - thanks!
Plati 2 Oct, 2014 @ 1:27pm
Awesome mod!
calcul8or  [author] 1 Oct, 2014 @ 3:44am
@EctoBiologist - Legion units will have all of their regular abilities, plus they will get the "Spear Throw" promotion that the Zulu Impi unit gets. That means it gets a small ranged attack prior to the melee attack
red mage 30 Sep, 2014 @ 7:26am
So- what does the mod DO exactly? I get that it adds a promotion, but there's nothing that tells me what is does.
The Grapeist 18 Jul, 2014 @ 7:26am
considering that rome doesnt get any cool replacements for the colloseeum or the aqueduct and dont get a discount on roads i thnk all these military upgrades are a good boost.

Alternate download link added, thanks @the DoomBox
Jimli 15 Jul, 2014 @ 6:57am
It wont download for me and you havent posted an alternate link. Can you perhaps reupload another version for those who are encoutnering the steam workshop glitch?
Triarius 10 Jul, 2014 @ 6:24pm
Great mod!
ChayaNyx 4 Jul, 2014 @ 12:53pm
That source was how you found out about Pila? So sad, Firaxis got away with this because the majority don't know what the true Legionaires used for combat, how they fought. Pila were devastating disruption tactic for the experienced Legionaire. About time someone made a mod which makes the Roman Legion complete. This Mod and the No-setup Ballista allows me to Dominate with Rome like I should :P
Lomhev 4 Jul, 2014 @ 2:56am
so the pilum is completely useless exept for the fact that it leaves yor enemies sheildless and scattered... yeah useless is definatly the word for it.
Flagellation Nation 2 Jul, 2014 @ 10:27am
You should probably decrease the legion's combat strenght since they were already pretty powerful to start with.
Korpral 29 Jun, 2014 @ 9:19am
Real life romans had a "spear" called a pilum Wich was completely useless in every aspect except for when it came to rendering the shields of the enemy useless due to the weight of the pilum lodged in their shields.
Doomed World 27 Jun, 2014 @ 3:18pm
how are they weak...
Mashsmouth 25 Jun, 2014 @ 6:56pm
Lol. Your source is "according to a redditor".
﴾﴾ۣۜkala 25 Jun, 2014 @ 2:36pm
So much approval! Rome needs a buff, this seems to do it. I thought they were going to add this in Brave New World having heard of Impi
Moo Zedong 24 Jun, 2014 @ 11:14am
I like the idea, but its dissapointing that they throw torches instead of spears
HamDurger 21 Jun, 2014 @ 5:10pm
this sounds amazing
BiggestHistoryNerd 21 Jun, 2014 @ 8:23am
Thank you! I wanted to add this but I had no idea how. Thank You!
blackhawkcreek 19 Jun, 2014 @ 10:38am
I haven't played this mod, but it is historically accurate. Legions need a buff, and this might be a good way to do it.
TRusheeRush 19 Jun, 2014 @ 7:24am
I like it, Legions should be absurdly strong, Rome is a pretty weak civ as it is.
