thanks to @Gregarius for the suggestion!
I had a few hundred items get added after joining a game with Hyper Research and the person had already learned all the things using wood, stone, boreal wood, etc. It was pretty glorious, and only showed up on my screen for a few seconds since it was a chat message. I hit my enter key to open chat and go back to it and check if anything I wanted was there. Pretty useful.
And I checked again regarding "partial research"; this is not the case in regular gameplay, you only store "fully researched items" in the book. The reason modded items get a special handle is because a modder might lower the amount required to research the item in an update, and if you had the mod disabled at some point, this value will carry over and when you use the item again, it will grant you the research if possible
Also I noticed another comment about packet size restricting what is possible, could that be a problem if you have a ton of (modded) items researched? Does it fail gracefully (i.e. no crash) if I would reach that limit?
Thanks for your quick replies!
How about a different item for any one single item's research, would have to be somehow picked in game though. (Am I making sense? For example wanting to share research of just black pearls, so would need a menu to pick them to make the item to share just those.)
It would be convenient if it did include part research, though. Imagine 2 friends both half researching some rare material, or even one of them accidentally researching the last 5 needed items of this resource, while the other could have completed it. Awkward!
Would be nice if they could combine that. :)
Digi62, why not just manually turn it off? (Or disable it from server side.)
