I am very out of touch with this mod (it's been 2 years) and it does sound like there's something wonky with your save, so I'm not sure I can really help.
You could join the discord and ask in the modding channel. They are very friendly peeps.
I did some testing though, and it seems like maybe something has just gone weird with my savegame? I think loot_plants is spawning just fine, but upon entering the room it turns into money because it thinks I've already got all the plants for some reason. Very strange.
Also, I haven't touched anything in almost a year and I've forgotten how most of it works.
As for more specific answers, if you were interested, we could continue the discussion on the discord.
Do you think that was because I was skipping all the encounters? I remember seeing a possibly scripted battle with some dude who had sinister plans for a grove early on, but then never saw that party again.
Also, early on, I remember being really surprised that literally one of the earliest battles I saw in the first grove had an Ignis Knight and a Defiler in, where I was still in mostly basic classes (I geared up a bit before I came, everyone in steel from my initial trade routes, but not much XP from that of course).
Nevertheless, thanks for the mod, it was still interesting.
1) It is not technically possible to have "an individual grove stuck a specific colour scheme or theme" -- it can't work like that with how the groves are generated in game. Theoretically, a modder could go and create whole new dungeons that looked like groves, but that would be a different mod entirely.
2) As for seeing the same encounters, each grove pulls from a pool of possible encounters, with earlier encounters being phased out and later encounters being phased into the pool. For the first 5 groves (and your last 5 groves), the pools are smaller, so you may see more repeats. But even the same "battle" is different because the enemies will roll with different numbers, weapons, skills, and classes.
3) The earlier groves will indeed be lower level equipment, but once you get to the later groves, the enemies have higher level equip (ironice, for example).

Basically, after doing about 3 of these, I basically just popped stealth-sense on, sneaked all the through for research item, and snuck back, fighting only battles where it was impossible to sneak through. As you mention, since this was a full-mod playthrough, I had no need to fight for the XP as I was already swimming in it, and a vast majority of drops in the mod are bone armour and darts, with the occasional bullion in the hedge. I don't think you need to worry about breaking the bank on drops here, it's not like everyone's suddenly in Ironice.
There ARE some fun battle scenarios though, I did like most of these, even if I miss a basic 'fight 4 spide's type grove'.
One thing I think REALLY should be a priority is making groves consistent and take into account where they are on the world map when they're generated. It's kind of jarring when the colour of the forest changes 5 times in the space of 5 screens. Right now, it's more like I'm always taking a gate to Tir Na Nog rather than exploring a grove. I think it would feel a lot better if an individual grove stuck a specific colour scheme or theme.
Right now, there are also quite a limited amount of encounters and templates as well; when you've seen about 4 groves, you've seen them all besides a few enemy changes.
However, there is WAY more than enough exp now, as each grove adds many battles. You should not need to farm.
The short answer to this question is no, unfortunately not with this particular mod. It could be possible for a dedicated modder to use this mod to make a 2x2 version, but it would be a lot of behind the scenes work for tweaking the "math" that guides the randomized battles being selected.
It is outside the scope of what I'm doing, but it could in theory be done.
Hope you enjoy my mods all the same (and please give some upvotes if you do).
Also, just a reminder, you can also skip battles. You are not obliged to fight every single one.

I was missing a file but now everything should work (this mod, but also the rest: GroveAddon_FrostKissed, Elemental Disciples - Ice, GroveAddon_Herbalist, Elemental Disciples - Life).
I've updated my other mods, so if you re-subscribe to those, everything should be working fine. If there's another problem, please come find me on the Discord.
but when i subscribe addon FrostKissed, Herbalist both, it doesn't work!
sadly, i use alternate Elemental Disciples - Life & Ice, it doesn't work either!
