@dogflower It's very simple very narrow change. It would have a hard time conflicting with anything that doesn't touch the exact same thing. So it's good it's still working.

Balance wise, this mod is probably not great for non-science focused folks, essentially spy stealing is a catchup mechanism to help folks not be stuck losing for the rest of the game because science guy jumped ahead.

Feels wise, this is exactly what I wanted so I made it.

Long story short, in singleplayer its a great mod, in multiplayer it's probably not the best option, as players can essentially be forced to be losing for the rest of the game until they ACTUALLY lose.

Actually makes the game very equal for you and the AI. I love it!

Everytime I outpace some AI they catch up rather quickly by sending me spies like 1000 times, while if I get caught just once its straight to denoucn & war. This mod fixes that...well, at least until they get spies of their own.

So far played about 50+ hours with this mod and community patch, so far no errors or crashes. Everything seems to be working fine. Thank you so much for this amazing mod!

Never got them to pay well together, so i now disabe all spys. Stealing teck is way too easy in vanilla.

If I remember correctly (as it's been a few years) this mod only updates one XML file. Have you uninstalled this one and it works? If so, maybe the "commmmunitas game play enhancements" is changing the same file. Though tbh, that should only be a problem when you first load the mods I would think.

When I load this with the commmmunitas game play enhancements (4 mods) my Civ 5 (with all DLC) is missing the items in the build menu from the city display (like wehn you found your first city). Any one successfully get these to play well with one another?

Oblivion, If you use the teams at the start of the match you should share tech and both get spies. Otherwise you probably dont want to do that anyways because you may lose that friend shortly, or your friend may still steal YOUR tech.

Thanks for the reply regarding the question about how to know if the other civ(s) have a spy--duh on my part.
As regards the picture or icon for this mod--the non-existent image--now that this mod is Public, and since you are the master modder, give us an upbeat ICON for the mod. You can do it!

If a civ was friends with another civ and one entered the reinissance era, the friend to that civ should get a spy as well!

As for the picture, I'll think about it, but this was a mod for personal use I figured I'd share with everyone else. Just cause I figured it might allow other people to enjoy the game a bit more.

Essentially, when you make it to the renaissance, instead of every civ getting a spy (default) only the civ that makes it to the renaissance gets a spy. This means if you want your first spy, you have to get to the renaissance. This is a bit biased towards science civs, but if you don't like that, well... Don't use the mod?

If you want to know if a civ has a spy, you have to know if they are in the renaissance.

Hey, BigNewb, man, you need a picture for this mod. what''s up with the blank picture? nobody want to subscribe to a nothing image. I did subscribe. I am not certain yet if it does anything but I believe in the idea. It is a great idea. No freeloadeer spy benefits for the civs underdeveloped for this advancement. How can one evaluate if the other civs deserve or do not deserve a Spy? Where in the game's demographic data does one look?

I tried removing the artificial requirement. Unfortunately this means that since I cannot put a dependency on Gods and Kings OR Brave New World folks will have to police themselves. Hopefully nobody will think they get the spies feature from this.

Spies were introduced in G&K so that's where the mod changes the way spies work. This mod doesn't ADD spies to the game, just makes them gained differently. Did BNW add spies too?

This was developed using all the DLC and ran fine without any mods.
Perhaps you have a certain DLC turned off?

Apologies for the slow reply. I wont lie, I'm not 100% sure, but my guess is it wont work on previously saved games.

This was a quick mod I did because I was sick of the same problem and as my GF started playing CIV again I fixed it for her. As a science favoring player myself, I can share my dislike for a bunch of freeloaders in the classical era stealing all my tech to catch up.

thank you for this i always hate how advancing my own tech automatically meant putting up with everyone stealing my stuff so i'd either have to waste my ONLY spy on defense or accept that everyone else gets a few ride. This is so much better.
