Crash to desktop when a character interacts with the object. I dont have Genesis. Wouldn't recommend for big modpacks...

Haha. I don't know if it's possible. Might be possible inside dialogue packages, but not directly to furniture. I haven't tried it with player characters but there are "alarms" and there is a mod that makes NPC gate guards react to events... but who knows.

At the end of the day all I REAALLY want is a 'guardpost' that has the guard close and lock gates like 'Guards lock gates' mod does for npc towns, then open when attack is over so 'throw out intruder' job, and 'remove bodies' can cleanup.

Is there any way to set 'spotlight' or other function to sound alarm and have guard close gate? Or door?

I could even make do with a 'close door after walking through' so turret guards can't somehow be ambushed (and limb cut off by starving bandit?!?!? WTF?? what was everyone doing to let green get beat like this?) while base defenders get skipped without consequence

**sigh** Im busy with dungeon raids. Can't yall just be competent at home for 5 mins? XD

@Arturia

About the placement, yeah, I don't like it much either due to it being the kind of graphic it is. You can push "+" which helps, but there are simply some places where it gets hidden by floors or by environment textures.
pnciampo  [author] 21 Oct, 2022 @ 1:50pm
@Arturia

Yeah, if I had graphical skill I would have made it a colored dot or rug or something. By the way, I've never heard of the "attack enemies" assigning. Does that work? I'll try and see if it works. That's a great tip.

Excellent mod. Works best if you assign the guard to attack enemies (shift + RMB an enemy to assign this job) and have guard marker below it in job list.
Minor gripe is the placement on ground can suck finding a spot it doesn't clip into the terrain.
pnciampo  [author] 16 Oct, 2022 @ 9:17am
I would like that too but unfortunately there are limitations to player AI. Best I can do is the built in reactivity to hostiles passing by who have already targeted you.
Garlic 5 Aug, 2022 @ 10:01pm
This is exactly what I wanted! But when you say they must be attacked first by enemies, it means any characters including the guards, yes? So if I set bodyguard one of them, will they attack any hostiles who get too close? Or will they go out the gate and meet any hostiles in the area on their own even if they're unprovoked like territory aggression? What I want is making them stand guard on a gate like a smuggling check, so what should I do?

I tested a few things. I was able to reproduce the light of the spotlight while changing it's functionality to the marker. However, due to how the mounting works, guarding on the wall or on the side of a building sends you to the connecting wall or inside the building. Not useful.

I double checked my own mod - the stairs I checked worked fine, but maybe it is certain buildings you can't build by the stairs in general. I don't know.

I checked out if you can alter something to allow you to build on top of a gate floor, but I can't tell what to switch around. I also tried to add functionality to a gate itself, but it seems that if it's going to be a gate, it can't be anything else. I also tried to look at how the Shek Guards thing works, which has no info on nodes or anything - which means the behavior is simply AI generated/controlled.

I am not sure if this can be improved.

As far as I know - in Guardpost - the carpet is for indoors only and the torch post is for outside only. I am curious about maybe duplicating a building spotlight and seeing what can be done, that is - if there's no conflicting function. Without looking at FCS, I feel like it should be possible, but I don't know.
pnciampo  [author] 6 Apr, 2022 @ 5:21pm
As for the carpet being buried, all you have to do is push "+" until it's on top of the ground level. I realize it blends in really well and if you're in a place with a lot of vegetation or forget where you placed it, it may be a bit difficult to find it. I wasn't intent to create new gfx (because I don't have the know how) but the ideal would be a red, blue or green flat circle you can lay like a carpet, not much bigger than the current image. Oh well.
pnciampo  [author] 6 Apr, 2022 @ 5:17pm
No worries. I was also kind of defensive due to my mistake. The last thing I want is for people to think I am claiming some novel idea.
profd 5 Apr, 2022 @ 6:40pm
Forgot to mention sometimes the carpet is quite buried into the ground, making it hard to find afterward (usually when it's not usable ofc...)
profd 5 Apr, 2022 @ 6:38pm
Oh Man.. I didn't even think about 'mod war'.. it was just a genuine simple question.. hence the 'improved" part.
Guardpost has some limitations.. i'm using only the carpet and can't place it everywhere (not on gates, not close to some stairs, not on some buildings parts etc) So i was just expecting (!) a new mod to cover that..
Sorry if my previous comments sounded.. nasty or something. Didn't meant it.

My last thought for the moment. Go try Guardpost or Idle Stands before you try my mod. You may like it better. You may even have some kind of ability to interact with gates. I haven't tried the mod and am not planning on it any time soon.
pnciampo  [author] 4 Apr, 2022 @ 8:08pm
I am not here to fight over what is better. This mod simply allows you to assign a guard to a tiny scaled down carpet object. No building materials needed. Doesn't create a player town. Very simple.

After looking at the mod page for Guardpost, the only thing I think I don't like is that the post is tied to a piece of furniture game world. Two separate ones at that.

Even though Idle Stands bundles Guard Post and idle activities, I would rather be able to just plop down a marker without building a torch or actual carpet. But to each their own.
pnciampo  [author] 4 Apr, 2022 @ 7:59pm
I was only made aware of the Guardpost mod AFTER I released this.

I was in very brief contact with the person who kept that mod going on the Kenshi Facebook group. I forget his name at this moment (Mod: Idle Stands).

If you like someone else's mod that is older or better or what have you, then by all means use their mod. This was something I hadn't come across in the workshop, but had independently been thinking about.
