With the "New Player Faction: Survivalists", when used in a scenario does it knock research down to 50% like a tribal start would? Or are you only touching research speed with the meme?

@Touhoufanatic it would be a little trickier, this meme basically reused existing precepts and I think that you would have to code your own to recognize researching.

Here's a question, how hard would it be for a mod the opposite of this to be created?
Like a research meme that give happiness when researching and speeds it?

@Krazyfan1 that's strange, I see it in the Medium Impact section between Raider and Rancher. Are you running any other mods with memes or other ideology stuff?

@graublau You will see two Fungus tolerated options, one from this mod that has small debuffs, and one from "Precept Fungys Expanded" without the debuffs that is also required by the Tunneller meme. There will be no conflict in the code/errors as the defnames are different.

That is where you can use other mods that could help the grind. For example, Vanilla Factions Expanded -- Tribals. The mod allows for era growth so you won't have to deal with tech handicaps as long as you meet the requirements (research all techs of an era).

I'm just now downloading this mod because i've been looking for something like this, but I don't see why there would be any conflicts.

I definitely feel your pain, I play with the built-in Survivalists faction (Tribal Start) a lot and agree that research griiinds. I appreciate that play style personally but I get frustrated sometimes too.

The problem is that the Slow Research precept is just the standard Ideo precept, and making it recognize the corresponding tribal start is beyond my skills. I would rather enforce what little :balance" it provides than make it no longer required and lose some of the flavor. Like FungalFish said, Dev Mode is a good option. It is a single player game after all.

I just noticed that the slow researched requirement is enforced even with Tribal start when your research speed is already heavily handicapped . This is disappointing, I was hoping to use this to make to make my tribal people actualy behave like tribal people instead of entitled genZ . Unless you remove all the hostile faction with actual firepower, this is just not viable .

@Galli4nt, it is your second guess. It removes the negative moods for sleeping outside/uncomfortably (wet, hot, or cold). This is not a nomadic meme and your colonists will still appreciate quality accommodations if you choose to provide them. It does provide a significant mood increase, but is balanced somewhat by the slow research, so you won't just be able to shoot for the cushier lifestyle right away.

This looks good but I just wanted to check the balance for it before installing - is there a debuff if they aren't sleeping outside? In other words, are you forced to stay outside with this meme in the same way raiders must raid and nomads must travel? Or is it simply a choice which removes the negatives of sleeping outside but they'll also have no issue living as normal colonists?

@kongkim it looks like the mod Roles untied to memes is deleting the node that my mod needs to patch for the Production Specialist. I am working on making my patches more failsafe, but for now if you load Roles untied to memes after Survivalist Meme the problem should fix. I’ll let you know once I get my patches updated.

@MightyPantherlll, I hadn't reformed the religion yet, but I had relocated the ideogram before I noticed the problem--since they aren't moveable I demolished the first and built a new one. I'm thinking that may have caused the glitch.

@Ele, did the issues start after you reformed your ideology and changed your altar/ideogram by any chance? That's been an issue for me in the past just from the way vanilla handles fluid ideos.

@MightyPantherill--Thanks for the feedback. I played around in dev mode to see if I could fix it. I'm pretty sure that the problem is with the ideogram. No rituals from it, and some weird stuff (but fixable) with the role changes. I got it working by changing celebrations to be started elsewhere. I have 3 other mods affecting religion, I'll look for the one that may affect the ideogram.

@Ele, I don't think that this mod is the culprit, as nothing in it impacts the rituals, I left those alone entirely so they would be completely vanilla. I've been working on a tribal-ish start myself with a fluid survivalist ideology and the rituals have been working just fine for me.

This is a great new meme, and I adopted it successfully in a game in progress. However, I noticed a problem when I started a new tribe using the fluid development with this meme as the starting meme--the celebrations for the religion aren't triggering. (It may not be this mod that's causing it, I have changed quite a few mods recently, but this one seems most likely.)
