i know what they are called now they are signal cannons and they were used both on land and ships they were used to well signal and selute

@bink2006 I believe they were both for salutes and just in case of a war outbreak, but I'm not too sure

@bink2006 Most ships at the time had canons even if they were liners, such as the RMS Persia of 1855 or SS Great Eastern of 1860 :)

@@H.M.C.S Haida [1942] I prefer diesel engines since they're a LOT easier to make, though if you're on about the one I find most appealing in real life then steam.
