Keep That Radio ON!

This is not necessary. Here’s how to do it;
1. Equip the radio which will open the control panel.
2. Set your channel etc. now the magic part…
3. Click X to close the control panel
4. Now you can unequip the radio and it will still work. Can be in your inventory or attached to belt/bags/gear. Dont think it’ll work if you put it inside a bag tho.

Enjoy

PLEASE!!! remake this mod for B42!!! :mansob:
CPT Drumheller 3 Feb @ 11:43am
Hey man. First off, love the mod. Makes radios so much more usable.

Request - I don't even know if this is possible, but would you be able to make it so the radio transmission triggers on a different keybind? Having to bring radio up, press unmuite, re-mute, and close radio is a huge hassle.

@Madman_Andre IKR! Some mods add the ability to hold a 2H while listening to music, like the true music and radio mods, but you cant listen to the EBS unless you're holding the walkie in one of your hands. Its literally a WALKIE-TALKIE. lol. We should be able to equip it to our belt and listen to anything, including the emergency broadcasts while using a 2H weapon. Hopefully this mod is patched or they make it a vanilla feature. If not then I'm sure someone will eventually add a full supported mod. Right now its just limited to the music radio stations from the radio mod that adds real music/radio stations to the game. Its weird the devs aim for realism but either go way too overboard with it and things become tedious or they don't add stuff that actually adds realism lmao Makes 0 sense but ah well. Thats why modders are awesome. Some people are even paying modders who update B42 quickly.
This mod should be vanilla. I forgot that it wasn't.

Hi there, will this mod be updated for b42?
Grey  [author] 14 Aug, 2024 @ 3:01am
@TechSpartan Absolutely! Feel free to mod pack it, alter it, whatever you need to do
Dreamy_Abyss 13 Aug, 2024 @ 7:11pm
Hello MrGrey,

I hope you're doing well! I'm currently putting together a modpack for a Project Zomboid server called "Infected Chronicles," which is focused on creating a unique and immersive experience for our community through rp! (if anyone is interested reach out to me via messages). Your mod would be a perfect fit for the atmosphere we're aiming to build. I'd like to ask for your permission to include it in our modpack. Of course, full credit will be given to you, and I'll be sure to follow any guidelines you have. Thank you for considering my request!

Best regards,
Techspartan

Is it possible to add a radio filter when using VOIP? I'm surprised this isn't a mod already.
Hotaninja05 14 Jul, 2024 @ 7:18am
Pls make a version where we can just keep vanilla radios on.
Grey  [author] 22 Jun, 2024 @ 12:55pm
yeah on an MP server even if you don't see the broadcast's over your head it will still get printed in the chat. Unfortunately the chat isn't in SP so it doesn't help much.
I keeping going back to it every now and then trying to find out what about the broadcasts are so different but I haven't found it just yet
BrGuardian 21 Jun, 2024 @ 7:48am
Funny thing, since start this mod always kept the radios "running" by showing the mensages of the EWR in the caht
Grey  [author] 5 Mar, 2024 @ 4:28am
@norby007 Awesome! That's good to hear

@Chrissy Jingles Honestly I have no idea, I've never tested it with those mods. I would guess the answer would likely be no as even though this mod will keep radios from turning off when unequipped (which helps with voice and text chat), for whatever reason things like the emergency broadcasts will stop playing."

Sorry you were getting questions on this. I have a patch coming out tomorrow with the true music radios that will fix that and I confirmed is compatible with this mod too. Because of the MP aspect there was a lot to patch to make inventory radios work correctly.
norby007 3 Mar, 2024 @ 7:37pm
Just finishing the next version of True Music Radio and stopping in to download this to make sure it's compatible. good work :)
ZeeroCool 1 Mar, 2024 @ 9:09pm
@MrGrey thanks for your reply! Cheers

Can you please make this work with all radio stations? I'd like to listen to the True music radio, but I don't wanna carry a radio around everywhere
Grey  [author] 4 Feb, 2024 @ 5:49am
@Fensalir_Gaming You can add this to your server if you like and even modpack it if you wish. The bug that ZeeroCool mentioned doesn't have anything to do with this mod and is a vanilla issue with VOIP so there isn't really anything I can do to fix it here
Fensalir_Gaming 31 Jan, 2024 @ 10:58pm
Hello, I'd love to add this to my pz rp server, was the bug mentioned by ZeeroCoolTV ever fixed?
Grey  [author] 26 Jan, 2024 @ 6:40am

Chrissy Jingles 26 Jan, 2024 @ 3:21am
With the true music mod + true radio mod, I'm forced to carry around a radio in secondary hand to listen to music from the stations, but it cuts out whenever you do anything with two hands. Would this mod solve that hassle?
Luanr597 18 Jan, 2024 @ 11:03am
Thank you so! Me and my mates are playing only using voip chat (for a bit more of imersion kkkkk), but the vanilla radio just sucks. This mod will be really usefull
ZeeroCool 15 Jan, 2024 @ 7:02am
@Codex the problem is not range, is PZ mechanics i believe. If two player log in in the same house (or close by 109 tiles) and walk away from each other, theres no problem until they log out. When they log in again far away (more than 109 tiles) PZ will "mute" VOIP between them. U can check this by pressing "ESC" e "PLAYERS" during the game. U'll have two options for mute and unmute. The one that VOIP uses is "the bug" i'm afraid.
ZeeroCool 15 Jan, 2024 @ 6:56am
Thanks @Mr Grey! If i come across a fix, i'll let u guys know!
Grey  [author] 15 Jan, 2024 @ 12:08am
@ZeeroCooltTV Unfortunately I wouldn't even know where to begin on trying to fix that one. I haven't tried to do anything with the in game VOIP system before
Codex 14 Jan, 2024 @ 1:39pm
@ZeeroCoolTV Having the same problem, though I'm looking at trying out the "Better Electronics" mod. Supposedly you can upgrade radios, and I'm wondering if that can increase the range as a somewhat serviceable/realistic fix for now.
ZeeroCool 11 Jan, 2024 @ 11:23am
Hi @MrGrey, congratulations on the mod! It works really well. Thanks! Is there any chance of creating a fix for the unmute VOIP at long distances? It's a known bug in build 41. Every time a player logs out or logs in far away from another player, they cannot communicate through the radio. Once they get close, within less than 109 tiles, VOIP unmutes, and the radio starts working again. If they log in together within 109 tiles and start to walk away from each other, the radio keeps working just fine. This bug is destroying our RP server. Anyway, thank you for this mod; it has already helped a lot!
Grey  [author] 10 Jan, 2024 @ 12:16am
@JackBrightside Yes it also affects the in game VOIP system as that requires you to have a radio turned on to use
Capitan Jack 9 Jan, 2024 @ 7:11pm
Does this mod work on VOIP too or only chat related walkie talkies ?
Roseanne Haruki 26 Dec, 2023 @ 8:53am
Would you happen to have a version of this that does keep vanilla broadcasts on, or know of a mod that does?
diabolicdoctor 18 Dec, 2023 @ 5:39am
@MrGrey Thanks! :)
Grey  [author] 18 Dec, 2023 @ 3:41am
@diabolicdoctor absolutely! Yeah I don't mind at all :)
diabolicdoctor 18 Dec, 2023 @ 2:50am
Hi, we are using this mod on our Roleplay-Server "FallenLands" and I would like to ask if it would be ok to add it to our Modpack, of course with full credits given?
Grey  [author] 13 Nov, 2023 @ 11:32pm
@XDShark I haven't really messed with the VOIP functions at all so I don't know enough about how they work to help with that. The best place to ask would be on TIS forums or on the PZ discord
XDShark 13 Nov, 2023 @ 9:32am
The problem is not in the modification, I was just asking here in case you know about this problem. This is not the radius of the radio, provided that we stand next to each other on transmissions at 100 m, including the radio of an audible voice. If we go beyond this radius, then we will continue to hear, but if we turn on the walkie-talkie outside this radius, then the voice chat does not work, only text until we meet within this radius.
Grey  [author] 13 Nov, 2023 @ 3:30am
@XDShark This mod doesn't affect anything about the radio function other than keeping it turned on when you've unequipped it.so this mod wont be causing your issue.
Are you sure you aren't just experiencing the radio's range? Each radio has a broadcasting range depending on the type and if you get outside of that range no one will hear you/see your text chat messages
XDShark 13 Nov, 2023 @ 3:01am
Hello, we have a problem on the server. If we are nearby and turn on the radio, it works. But if we are far away and there is no connection, then until we get close enough, we cannot hear each other, only chat. Who knows how to solve this problem?
kellogsfrostedflakes 7 Nov, 2023 @ 4:50am
This mod works great for voice. For us, the recipients have to be holding the radio in their hand to receive /say.
Grey  [author] 15 Oct, 2023 @ 3:13am
@Takye Howell This mod doesn't affect anything to do with text functions. It only prevents the radio from being turned off
Teekay 14 Oct, 2023 @ 12:11pm
Seems like the text portion isn't working at the moment
Grey  [author] 1 Oct, 2023 @ 11:28pm
The confusion is because when I first made the mod I wasn't super clear on the the intention of the mod and people thought this would work for the in game broadcasts as well like the emergency weather reports. I don't know why this doesn't work to be honest. I've searched through the code multiple times trying to sort out why the broadcasts don't play even though the radio is still on. Hopefully I'll crack it some day but for now, this just stop radios from shutting off when you unequip them from your hand and allows you to continue your text or VOIP conversations uninterrupted
Grey  [author] 1 Oct, 2023 @ 11:28pm
@crayven_ady Yes so in the vanilla code, when you have a walkie equipped in hand that's turned on and then put it either on your belt or in a bag it will automatically turn off. This was causing a lot of issues on MP servers I played on in the past as you could be talking with someone and then be attacked by a zed or go to do some kind of crafting that caused you to unequip the radio which would then turn it off and cut your conversation short until you were able to re-equip it and manually turn it on again. This mod just stops the auto-shutoff when it gets removed from your hand.
Nandi 1 Oct, 2023 @ 1:34am
So can people talk/hear each other with the unit turned on while on the belt or not? Comments here are confusing me.
Grey  [author] 19 Sep, 2023 @ 11:51pm
@deeptide Whats the point of your comment other than to criticise something you clearly don't understand?
This is for VOIP and text chat on MP servers. In the vanilla game, unless you follow an annoying sequence of steps, when you unequip your radio from your hand it automatically turns off. So if you were holding your radio and chatting with someone and you have to quickly equip a weapon for some reason (you get jumped by a horde or another player for example), the radio is turned off automatically and your on your own
deeptide 18 Sep, 2023 @ 11:27am
Whats the point of this mod if it just keeps the radio on but doesn't allow you to listen to it while on the belt. Saves you one click?
Dusk Holloway 12 Sep, 2023 @ 8:28pm
"I get people asking about allowing the vanilla broadcasts like the emergency reports to keep playing when a radio isn't in hand which isn't something this mod does."
People get this implication from the mod name 'keep the radio on' meaning the radio stays on no matter the channel.
gordyzx9r 8 Sep, 2023 @ 7:11pm
I just saw the comment about the radio stations like the emergency broadcast don't work while the radio is put away...is there anyway you can add that functionality? I don't get why the vanilla mode doesn't allow you to put it in a belt slot and listen to it with earbuds.
Midge 10 Aug, 2023 @ 5:25am
@MrGrey reach out on Discord, if that's alright with you. tmanwsoldtworld

@Midge Then what….what? I don’t understand the question XD
Midge 9 Aug, 2023 @ 4:05pm
@MrGrey hmm, then what?
