@Technolibra is your vfx settings not on ultra? I believe the blood disappears quicker when it's on lower settings :sad_seagull:

Apparently, regarding the issue on blood and flicker:

I found a way for myself to avoid flickering by using this https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/workshop/filedetails/?id=3039315942 and set 70/10 blood in the game settings so you will have new blood textures from the mod and minimal flicker it is extremely inconspicuous, basically you will follow the fight and you won't see anything

I know its not THIS blood mod, which I really enjoy but until its resolved then that's the best method I can find....Maybe this will help the author find a fix somehow...

It works but a lot of the initial blood decals that activate when a unit is killed bugs out and begins to flicker.

Hey noticed something weird. No blood is showing up on Throgg's hammer. Just his hammer though he gets plenty bloody himself. And everything else seems just fine with the textures for me. I've got VFX set to ultra blood stain and particle set to 100%. Maybe just a weird bug.

Well damn, I dunno what happened but now I no longer see flickering with your blood decals. I still get a shitload of it when a unit is doing something that creates a lot of them (Dwarf Irondrakes, bombardment spells, etc,), but eventually the vanilla blood splats and burnt ground decals fade out and your stuff remains, free of flickering.

It's got me thinking: what if the solution, if the engine can't handle this many decals nowadays, is to replace the vanilla decals entirely with whatever you got (or blank files) to stop the problem? Or just fiddle with the specific decal lifetimes and make them vanish instantly, if that's possible?

I'm still getting the giant blood stains. It happens for me when trolls smash infantry. I tried downloading a few different versions but it was happening on all of them.

is it possible to make the ground decals less spray and more congealed like in Smirk's version or even default? The excessive spray lines seem a bit too much and almost immersion breaking. Other than that, it looks great!

At this point I'm not even sure the flicker is caused by z-fighting. I think it's caused by internal engine limits as the flicker only kicks in when the number of decals reach a certain cap.

For example I think the engine is set to only be able to display x number of decals at once, let's say it's 100 for sake of example. When there's more than 100 decals spawned then I think the game is rotating or switching out some decals for others and this cycling causes flickers as decals momentarily disappear etc. The more decals spawned, the more flickering as more decals need to be switched out.

That's my guess anyways, it's been an issue in TW games since around when Warscape V3 was used for Warhammer I.

I know you're still encountering flickers with your blood decals but FWIW the vanilla blood pack's decals no longer have that z-fighting issue, in case you want to pick a CA staffer's brain for a solution.

Identified and fixed the bug causing the weird huge blood textures. New version uploaded. Haven't bothered updating the version number as it's a minor adjustment.

Ok, I've isolated the issue, it seems to happen when flying creatures such as dragons are killed and happens when the corpse collides with the ground. I'll move on to working on solutions now.

Hey folks, thanks for the feedback.

I'll do some more testing regarding the random huge blood decals. I will probably be able to target a fix but I need to be able to replicate the issue reliably so that I can confirm it has been dealt with.

It would be extremely handy to know when this occurs which units were involved and what was happening.

I'm going to guess it's caused by specific attacks by one enemy against specific opponents that causes some wierd maths affecting the decal spawn. It'll probably be larger units causing this and by the sounds of the feedback, flying units. It might be an ability causing it as well.

Keep the feedback coming and I'll dig into it.

Just want to add these were the units present on the field when the large blood pool occurred: fell bats, dragons, ice wyrm, doom knights so far from what I've seen it is flying units causing this.

Hello to all testing this. One quick way to see if it this mod is fixed is load a quick custom battle as chaos dwarfs with K'dai fireborn vs tzeentch with doom knights on discs on a chaos minor siege battle or cathay. With this mod on, K'day fireborn's fire effects, fire from doom knight discs, and fire on minor siege maps are affected.

vahdaar, unfortunately im still getting the massive ground blood coverage. i unsubbed re-subbed and tested it quite a bit. does not happen ever battle but for sure still happens.

Heya - seems to be fire textures and explosions are replaced with like a glyph texture can see really well on 2nd chaos lords first battle - braziers have flickering glyphs

Ok V4.02 uploaded which brings compatibility with update 3.0. There were some tricky texture issues which delayed the update a bit. They are now hopefully resolved.

I've tested in a few big battles and the textures look to be working fine, normals and reflection maps seems to be being applied correctly. There's still the engine related flicker but can't do much about that. I had one instance of huge decals on the ground which hopefully has been fixed as part of the cleanup.

Let me know if there are any issues.

Noted, work underway to update and test. There were a couple of textures that weren't playing nice with the latest update, so just fixing that before testing to make sure all is well.

Tested in custom battles and it appears as though regardless of factions almost the entire ground will get covered in blood texture that can flicker a bit depending on the camera angle

I had the issue that the blood texture was extremely big and covered portions of the map. And sometimes I have symmetrical circles in the little blood textures, that look weird. Hope that helps.
