Improved Campaign Camera

Honestly, this is one of my favourite mods at this point. My (not at all bad) PC has been struggling with viewing certain locations, like Empire's core territory, where staring off in to the distance just shows too much weather/terrain/nameplates/etc at the same time. Lowering the viewing angle has taken a massive burden off of my PC, so nice one.

I've noticed something a bit strange with this (just this). During end turn sequences, the camera tends to tilt at such an angle that causes you to see across the landscape in such a way that means you can see the very very far distances without fog and thus you can see clipping and LOD weirdness in the distance. I will try to take some screenshots of what I mean.

Is this able to change the animation speed of the camera when it zooms it automatically focuses in or out of things? You know how you can't press or do anything during those moments? Thy add up.
Khazukan Kazakit-ha! 30 Mar @ 10:23am
does it still work?
does it need to be updated now?
Freiya  [author] 25 Mar @ 11:59am
@UPD8, It should be good now...
CA changed something for some reason that makes all mods containing packed files with upper case letters in the name crash at launch.

Causes CTD on launch with the new 6.1.0 patch
Delta64 21 Mar @ 2:35pm
As far as I can tell, this mod has stopped working for me.
Consuela 28 Feb @ 9:38am
does it increase the speed the camera wildly swings around at? You know how you are locked from doing anything at all while the camera zooms out and focuses on something else and you want to kill yourself because you are right clicking but nothing happens cause you have to wait for the FUCKING camera to finish moving before you can do anything, bc the camera is so important?
Monteo 25 Dec, 2024 @ 9:21am
I dont use any mods and my campaign camera angle/tilt looks similar to the the pictures above which show moddified version. I would prefer to have it like vanilla - with a bit less angle so more landscape is visible in the background. Any ideas how to change it?
SSSS Koala 9 Dec, 2024 @ 12:32pm
I always thought that raising the camera angle was a strange behavior. First of all, it doesn't make the game smoother, and you will miss the beautiful chessboard scenery of the campaign map.
Squibie 26 Aug, 2024 @ 1:23pm
Yo would it be possible for you to make mod that makes the parchment view permanent? Or at least change the height of transition to like minimum?
Cobblers 6 Apr, 2024 @ 6:51am
But wasn't Freiyas camera mod out first?
sleepyHase 31 Oct, 2023 @ 1:29pm
hey Freiya, just wanted to let you know that I recently released a campaign camera mod and it is fully compatible with this one. we mainly touch different things but the two things we both touch are the camera angle and the minimum zoom which funnily enough we both have set to the same value aha
BladeofSharpness 7 Sep, 2023 @ 8:42am
Thanks a bunch for all these QOL mods, really! You are doing CA work, but hey ... I'm a taker!
Emptyheart 6 Jul, 2023 @ 12:06am
This is great and the change of angle only improves +5 FPS. Thanks for the mod
Echo 28 May, 2023 @ 2:05am
Thank you for the before/after screenshots, it's amazing how many visual mods fail to highlight that.
Vaeringjar 5 Mar, 2023 @ 9:38am
had to set this as always enabled on the manager as I just can't stand going back to vanilla whenever I need to test something
Freiya  [author] 16 Feb, 2023 @ 12:10am
@Coocoodas, that's weird, it should work on an existing campaign. Maybe you have to zoom all the way in then zoom out to make the camera "reset".
Coocoodas 15 Feb, 2023 @ 6:54pm
Doesn't seem to work on existing campaign for some reason... I have to start a new campaign for it to work :( It's an awesome mod though.
John Matrix 3 Dec, 2022 @ 2:57am
Yea i had the problem before subbing to your mod. It's actually the reason why i subscribed because i thought it would fix the issue. It's as if there's a hard lock to how close i can get, and this just randomly came up after 2.3. I tried lanching the game with no mods at all, and it works just fine. Guess its time to look which other mod touches the Campaign Camera (i have none?). Thank a lot though!
Freiya  [author] 2 Dec, 2022 @ 10:34pm
@John Matrix, Everything is fine on my side. Maybe try zooming out completely as far as possible then zoom in again ? Do you have the issue without the mod ?
John Matrix 2 Dec, 2022 @ 2:34pm
Im not sure if this is from the most recent patch, but my campaign camera is stuck quite far away and doesn't get close to the ground at all, even if the parameter here is at 2 (and vanilla is 4). Do you have the same issue?
Freiya  [author] 6 Nov, 2022 @ 1:04am
@Cipher, I looked at it before but didn't find a db entry managing that.
Cipher 5 Nov, 2022 @ 10:15am
Is it possible to stop camera moving in diplomacy?
Rustic "Kalessin" Citrus 3 Nov, 2022 @ 2:08pm
I would love this mod if any of the fog moderating effects were removed, purely because the flickering is absolutely far worse / distracting etc, than what the mod is fixing. The base game flickering is only at its worst around Cathay but with this mod, holy smokes! (same thing for any of the get the fog outta here mods currently popular, for me that is)
TROCH22 24 Sep, 2022 @ 5:26am
great work. thank you, loving the improved camera settings
Zero 23 Sep, 2022 @ 5:54pm
THANK YOU IT WORKS <3
Zero 23 Sep, 2022 @ 5:31pm
OMG if this works you are my hero. Getting it now
Freiya  [author] 23 Sep, 2022 @ 8:35am
@Zero Actually I found the setting for that, I just submitted a mod to have the camera stay around 45 meters instead of moving close to the ground :

Ugh so frustrating! Constantly having to zoom out... Ya and no keybind to next notification... I had to make a freaking autohotkey macro + keyboard macro combo to make my own version.
Freiya  [author] 22 Sep, 2022 @ 4:08pm
I already tried to find where to change that in the past but didn't find anything. I don't know if it's possible to change that with mods.
Zero 22 Sep, 2022 @ 2:25pm
Do you by chance know how to stop camera from zooming in on notification button click?
Zero 22 Sep, 2022 @ 2:24pm
Awesome TYVM :)
Freiya  [author] 22 Sep, 2022 @ 10:12am
@Zero Thanks for letting me know, I just updated the mod.
Zero 22 Sep, 2022 @ 9:44am
This mod is essential for me and for some reason it doesn't work with Radious. It loads just fine and can play with it, but the changes aren't working. I looked up some info and ran a test and I was able to edit the mod in RPFM and I got it to work. All I did was add a ! to the name.

"!Freiya_Campaign_Camera" under the campaign_variables_tables

Is there any way you could update this on this mod so I can use this with friends in MP? If not, can I make a version of this with that change?
Shoggy 20 Sep, 2022 @ 9:52am
Just a heads up on the height thing, we got DB changes to camera height limit working in WH2, though the same changes aren't working in 3, obviously, so we'll have to debug for a while to figure out what they switched to or hardcoded.

In the meantime though, using the console mod to allow yourself to enter lua commands, you can just manually set the camera position for screenshot purposes.

The command to push the camera up far enough to see the whole map (on my display) is:

lua cm:scroll_camera_from_current(false,1,{500, 400, 1, 0, 580})

Command documentation can be found here: https://chadvandy.github.io/tw_modding_resources/campaign/campaign_manager.html#section:campaign_manager:Camera%20Movement

Thank you for this mod! I don't know why so many games are starting to favor shallower camera angles when it just makes the game frustratingly claustrophobic COH3 being another new example...its like they all went to the same seminar on how to make you game look hip.
Last Dinosaur 31 Aug, 2022 @ 3:25am
ok thank you!
Freiya  [author] 28 Aug, 2022 @ 1:30am
Is that the issue when skipping/triggering a fight before the camera ends the zoom-in ? I don't think the mod can affect this.
Diablo™ ( music ) 27 Aug, 2022 @ 4:02pm
Does this mod fix the random map rotations after battles? its really annoying when it always goes to some random direction
Freiya  [author] 27 Aug, 2022 @ 7:06am
@Last Dinosaur, We can't precisely define the camera angle independently for each zoom level, only the minimum angle and by how much the angle increases when zooming out. For this kind of fine-tuning, it's probably better to learn how to mod or just use the vanilla version which has a lower angle.

Maybe I will release a camera version at a very low angle to better see the horizon, characters, etc. mostly for screenshots but I don't know if it will be good for playing.
Last Dinosaur 27 Aug, 2022 @ 3:15am
hiya! any way to increase camera angle for zoomed in moments ie. to look forward? having the camera facing the ground makes me feel ill, thanks!
Freiya  [author] 27 Aug, 2022 @ 2:14am
@Mushroom, I took a look but didn't find a way to change/disable the zoom-to events, sorry. :(
There is an entry "display_camera_pre_battle_zoom" but doesn't seem to affect that.

Maybe post a mod request in the forum, someone else might have better knowledge about that.
Spartak 26 Aug, 2022 @ 6:28pm
@Mushroom, that would be a perfect fix for the game
Norman 26 Aug, 2022 @ 6:12pm
@Mushroom

Playing as Oxyotl, I'm feeling dizzy just from doing diplomacy, events, the map mechanic, etc. Anyone know of a way to disable the camera panning like that on the campaign map?
Mushroom 26 Aug, 2022 @ 6:01pm
Is it possible to remove the zoom-to-event conditions so we can trigger a battle or something without zooming all the way in and all the way out?
Piglet 26 Aug, 2022 @ 10:56am
I was hoping for something like this, I used a similar mod in WH2. Thank you.
|rav| 26 Aug, 2022 @ 9:48am
Well I can't say I agree with any of the changes you made but it doesn't matter. What I needed was a mod with the right values and tables and I'll edit to my preferences [lower cam angle - wider fov etc]. Thanks for this mod. Cheers.
