@viemari Lohi If you let gaming consume you all of the time then you need to just take a break.

I agree to many people especially the younger generation spend way to much time on gaming and not real life, it's the same with cell phones, gaming for me is just a little escape from time to time.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people will miss your modding abilities so good luck in life, if you do come back we will be all waiting:steamthumbsup:

Im doing a Suebi playthrough right now and im loving your reskin mod! Sadly the "barbarian" factions are often overlooked by modders, so im very grateful to see them get some love. Your mod is by far the best reskin i've seen for these factions - i simply love the colorful gauls, the badass looking suebian sword masters and especially the officer for the gauls with a cool armor and helmet. Great work my friend.

Life seems to do that doesn't it.

Can't wait to see your Hellenic and Roman units:steamthumbsup:

@Warriordude Not at the moment. I have too much to do right now. I'm studying and preparing for exams and a lot of other real life stuff. I've also mostly left gaming altogether. I might at some point though when I find the time. I've got Hellenic units pretty much all done as well as Romans.
Warriordude 8 May, 2023 @ 2:50pm
If the German skins could be combined with Para Bellum units I'd be a happy man.

Seems most modders just neglect German factions especially the shield colors.

I've been playing this with the new mod Magna Germania:steamthumbsup:

You still planning on doing other factions?

@GG01 Does the path directory look right? You can check this by using my mod as an example. When you're in PFM under your mods name the path directory should be yourmodname, variantmeshes, variantmeshdefinitions and under that the reskins. Just check what my reskin mod looks like compared to your mod in the PFM. Also you have to enable the mod in the launcher.
GG01 18 Oct, 2022 @ 8:13am
@ViemarilLohi Thanks for your help, i have already edited all the spartan army, but the part whit the PFM didnt work. My mod appears in the Mod Manager of total war but it just dosent work. (sorry for the bad english, im from Perú)
viemäri_lohi  [author] 7 Sep, 2022 @ 5:01am
@Warriordude Yeah I could do all the factions, it would just take some time and I'm fairly busy right now with studies. Probably will release more of "my reskins".
Warriordude 6 Sep, 2022 @ 5:40pm
Would be cool if you could get a hold of Jam who Made Rome total war realism and help him with his skins, his mod is pretty fun but don't like his skins. He told me in the past he doesn't know how to skin units. You planning on doing other Factions?
Warriordude 6 Sep, 2022 @ 5:34pm
Those German shields are a 100% better, great job:steamthumbsup:
viemäri_lohi  [author] 5 Sep, 2022 @ 5:32am
@Warriordude What do you think about the new German shield patterns? I added extra variety and made black shields a bit rarer but still retained fairly the same color pattern as before with just red added into the mix.
viemäri_lohi  [author] 5 Sep, 2022 @ 1:48am
@GG01 Yeah, it's super simple. First open Total War Rome 2 assembly kit and it should open a folder. There you'll find Tweak.AssemblyKit, open it, press tools and open variant editor. In variant editor you can access the vanilla skins by going to files and pressing "load uniform". After you edit it to your liking just press save definition in the files option. Make a folder titled "variantmeshes" and inside that folder another titled "variantmeshdefinitions" and save your skins there. In pack file manager create a new mod from files option (under my mods) and after that press right mouse button and add directory and give the file location of the file where you saved your skins or variantmeshdefinitions. After that just go to file options and, my mods and press install.

austria-HRE 2 Sep, 2022 @ 6:26pm
cool
viemäri_lohi  [author] 2 Sep, 2022 @ 10:52am
@Mexi Updated it. You can see the difference between the leather armored units from pictures in the mod. They are side by side, the 6th picture is the old one and 7th the new. Also I've added text in the change logs.
MEXI 2 Sep, 2022 @ 5:26am
@ViemäriLohi Exact i learn this in the book of Jean Louis Brunaux a french historian of gallic history and Yann Le Bohec french historian of war Antiquity.
Just for Boii i don't know the leather armor was very historic, the leather armor of vanilla version was ''most'' historical because they were inpired by Glauberg and Entremont statue :

I heard Ancient Germans were mostly Redheads as well. We could probably go on and on about hair colors of peoples in Ancient Gaul, Germania and the Vikings. It would be cool to have some more colors on German shields though:steamthumbsup:
viemäri_lohi  [author] 1 Sep, 2022 @ 11:25pm
@Warriordude Btw Germans were noted to be "almost all red haired" which was thought to be an exaggeration but we have found that Europeans have ethnically actually changed a lot over time and Viking Age Danes for example were mostly red heads unlike today according to DNA analysis of Viking burials so it's totally reasonable that the Germans might really have been almost all red heads.

viemäri_lohi  [author] 1 Sep, 2022 @ 11:24pm
@Warriordude I don't think I'll change the patterns on the Germanic shields but I'll see if I can add some color variation. We have some sources saying Gauls were nearly all redheads and some saying blond. They could all be basically true because the Gauls were not ethnically monolithic and some areas probably were dominated by red hair and some areas blond. So the descriptions might refer to a specific region which the author has either visited or seen people from. We have many descriptions of the Gauls/Celts of which I'm going to leave a link to a compilation of:

@MEXI Oh nice, I'm about to start studying history in university actually next week in Finland. And yeah, Gallic and Roman armor is pretty hard to tell apart because most of the Roman armor was adopted from the Gauls like the mail shirts and helmets. And the hair/facial hair thing is a bit hazy because we have sources, like the ancient art work from the Gauls themselves and others that depict both long and short hair and faces with and without mustaches and the same with beards. It's quite likely that which you said that Britons only retained the old fashion whereas Gauls might have changed their fashion which happens in all cultures over time so even the descriptions that claim generalitions over hair fashions at best describe the current fashion of the day. The Britons were noted to be somewhat old fashioned Celts and they even fought with chariots which had been abandoned in Gaul a long time before Ceasar.
Warriordude 1 Sep, 2022 @ 5:21pm
I also read most Gauls back then were Redheads.
Warriordude 1 Sep, 2022 @ 5:19pm
If you give German units some colorful shields that would be great, vanilla German shields just doesn't seem right to me IDK?
MEXI 1 Sep, 2022 @ 12:23pm
I'm studying antiquity history in France, i'm pasionate of roman and celt histories, historian thinking in 1 B.C. gallics and romans was practicaly same in armors is for that archeologist have difficulty to know what armor is for roman or gallic.
MEXI 1 Sep, 2022 @ 12:17pm
For the hairs french historian do not know about this because in the text of Diodorus Siculus he speak about the noble with mustache but in the caesar text he doesn't speak about mustaches only for the britons and for this historian thinking the chars and mustaches may have existed in Great Britain but abandoned in Gauls. They found in ancient oppidum of Entremont two statues with short hair. And for helmets, you talk about in 1 B.C. because for the Agen helmet existing derivatives of Agen : (under)
viemäri_lohi  [author] 1 Sep, 2022 @ 8:40am
@MEXI They also only had one type of helmet in the video, the Agen type but we know Gauls had a whole array of helmets collectively known as the Celtic helmet types. I don't blame them though because you practically never can get 100% historically accurate videos like these because of budget and actor pool restrictions. Anyway I'm just nitpicking, that was probably the most historically accurate show what I've seen regarding ancient Gaul to be honest.

But to answer your question I'm not going to add the helmets from Celticus and Benjin because I'd have to add the textures in the mod which would make it huge. The Celticus' models mod alone was over 1gb and I want to keep this one compact.
viemäri_lohi  [author] 1 Sep, 2022 @ 8:40am
@MEXI That was an interesting video but it wasn't entirely accurate on terms of how the Gauls looked like. First of all they clearly had limited budget/equipment and the hairstyles/facial hairs were not all historically accurate. Gaul was called the long hair Gaul because the non-romanized Gauls were their hair long as opposed to the Gauls living in the region of Gallia Cisalpina or short hair Gaul. Some Gauls are depicted with relatively short hair though like the Dying Gaul. We also know the Gallic upper class wore long mustaches in combination with the long hair and some Gauls not part of the upper class wore beards instead of mustaches. I imagine the actors didn't want to go through the trouble of growing very long hair and mustaches so they just picked some guys with some facial hair which is half-accurate.
MEXI 31 Aug, 2022 @ 12:17pm
Great work, cn you use the armors and helmet of Celticus and Benjin mods ? Because in they mod you can find real gallic helmets and gallics armor. for help, this is a short movie make by historians and archeologist to show how gallic and celts look like :
