@KaiserAxt I agree that 2 handed axe fights vs cavalry is boring, you can thank CA for that, as they never gave two or one handed sword/axe units any matched combat animations for fighting cavalry. I had to give them sword and shield kill and draw animations otherwise they would only use secondary attacks. As for your second point, this is actually untrue. All animations that exist in the game files do play, but I have adjusted duels to be shorter on average to maintain a front line, meaning some dueling animations are more rare now. It looks very goofy to me when a trained soldier who values his life penetrates deep into an enemy formation to kill an enemy soldier, only to die right after because he is surrounded. Also the "quitting mid fight" that you are referring is actually hard coded into the game. To my knowledge, when two units enter matched combat, the game predetermines an outcome and combines a set amount of attack/defend/counter animations to reach a kill or draw outcome.

I wanted to point out some things:
Axe vs Cavalry fights are boring due to Axe units just hitting them with blunt secondary or heart (idk) attacks and killing them instantly.
Some Sword VS Sword fighting animations are missing. (In particular those where they are going/walking forth and back while fighting)
I can't stand it when the units just quit the animation in the middle of the fight. IDK if this is even possible to fix

Update: As of June 14, 2025, I have rewritten the code of the mod to allow it to work with Medieval Kingdoms, Ancient Empires, Vanilla Attila, and most other small scale overhaul mods without the need for separate versions. This means that going forward, you will not longer need the other versions of my mod. Make sure you put it at the top of your load order for it to work properly. Please read the compatibility section of the description for more details.

still doesnt work. units only display unmatched combat animations and battles between 2 units literally go on for like 10 mins. i have not seen a single matched death animation, only heart attacks. i rewatched the replay footage twice

@JRzockt This mod doesn't work with 1212 ad, at least it shouldn't. I just updated the 1212 version, so if you were using both that one and this one together before it will probably work again. This version of the mod was made for vanilla Attila, similar to the original one.

this doesnt work anymore. heart attacks still happen quite frequently. in fact i had battles where ionly saw like 2 glory kills even while watching the replay from a birds eye view. do i need the basic attila ultimate animations addon si this works or is it supposed to work on its own. could you please fix this mod?

@Torax Yeah, the spear and shield animations are lacking a little in variety. I'm definitely going to work on those sometime in the future. I might even add some of the two handed spear animations to the spear and shield, although I don't like how some of them look. It shouldn't be too difficult though as the spear and shield animations aren't nearly as complicated as the sword and shield ones. I'm also making changes to sword and shield animations, but I want to do one big update instead of a bunch of small ones, so it might take a while.

Attila and Rome 2 both use the same animations. The problem with Attila is it uses a priority system that forces certain animations to play more frequently than others. Most of the decapitation/amputation animations have this issue, which is why its more difficult to get a good variety of animations in Attila. From my experience, Rome 2 doesn't have this issue, therefore its much easier to make animation mods, as they all seem to have an equal chance of playing.

@BetterWarrior I would assume that it is not completely compatible as 7k probably has units that use custom animations, but you could try. If you load this mod above the 7k modules it should overwrite the animations that 7k and Attila share, but it most likely won't overwrite all of them.

I'm not sure if i have a conflicting file or anything but when it comes to spear combat i see a lot more secondary attacks than a synced animation :(

@YAMI[AI Test] If you are referring to the standard bearers, that is actually how it works in vanilla. They don't have any attack animations and can't kill anything. However in vanilla they can be killed by, you guessed it, secondary attacks! I can try and fix it by giving them death animations but I'm not 100% sure that its possible.

When they are not holding a weapon, but an iconic item like a flag, the soldiers will stare at them and not attack, just like in naval battles

its cool to watch how spear and shield unit use his spear twohanded it happening in really situations in that time the warriror drop his shield use spear 2handed and then take shield back and i saw archers do that kill move when they spin around ennemy and stab him in back it will be cool to see also in sword and shield unit but thx for effort and its cool mod :)

Would it be possible to make it shorter? the less formation breaking the better
