@rudemario Sorry to chime in uninvited in the discussion, but reading about your predicament, I couldn't help thinking that this mod is worth mentioning if you need to construct your backstory from scratch :

Untested by me, but should work fine in 1.4 since it was built for that version.

Appreciate any advice you have, I may just have to give up and go with a tribal backstory to have that unlocked anyway, but I'd really like to write custom flavor text for this character's backstory. I want to start a hereditary royal lineage with the new BioTech DLC so the original "King" I want to gussy up all custom-like, and then maybe make a custom child and adult backstory for his children like "Sophian Royal Descendant" and or "Prepared Royal Heir"

@Zaljerem I also believe Coma Child is a vanilla one. I was going through vanilla backstories using Prepare Carefully last night in preparation for making a new story.

I took a look through the tribal backstories and I can't seem to find any declaration of the Nature Psyfocus becoming enabled. Basically, what I'm after is a way to make a custom backstory. I want to do a Empire Royal family slaughtered/orphan backstory, where the child of a Royal family was the only survivor, and because he was forced to adventure off into the wild during his youth, was able to link naturally to anima trees and can use them to medidate, despite not having a tribal backstory per se. Basically, like, a midworld or ultratech backstory but with the Nature Psyfocus method turned on and a custom backstory blurb of text. Are you aware of any way to do this?

Hi, thanks for the report, I will remove Apocalypse Survivor; as I noted in the description I tried to clean up duplicate backstories, this is from an old mod that needs a little cleanup. Let me know if you find others.

@Zaljerem Question, does this completely replace all of the original backstories (as in, this mod includes all of the original backstories because if it didn't they would be missing)? I noticed under Child Basic that it includes Apocalypse Survivor, which is a vanilla backstory. I'm asking because I'm wondering if removing this mid-playthrough or not having it present when loading a save in the future might break the backstory for a given pawn despite me choosing one of the vanilla backstories and not one of the custom ones this mod adds. I would expect it to just revert to the vanilla listing, but any custom ones to be blank/broken.

Possibly, but it's not as if the VE team isn't active; I'm sure it will be updated before long. If I do, it will likely end up a bunch of wasted effort as I'll just have to pull mine when they do update, as is my policy. I'll take a look at it though.

Would you also consider taking on the task of creating an unofficial update for Vanilla Backstories Expanded? Seems like the author is going to take some time and you have some experience updating backstories for 1.4's Vanilla defs

I noticed it happens with backstories that have no BodyType tags. All default rimworld backstories have <bodyTypeGlobal>, <bodyTypeFemale> and <bodyTypeMale> but some in this mod have them missing completely. If this happens the pawn is missing its body type in the save file and won't render..
Examples: RueTribal12 is visible but REBA141 and REBA012 are not.

Hmm. I'm running it continually as I test and update mods and play a little 1.4 and I've yet to see a similar error. Anyone else?

i get an error when a pawn tries to render with an adulthood from this mod and they appear invisible, this happens both in character creation and in-game
