Better VR Route Adviser
37 Comments
I now have the problem that the header is wider than the rest. Now it is impossible to adjust it in the center console.
HEAVYHITTER451 6 Jul @ 1:58am
yeah the route adviser is still at the top but the big bulky default one now
FateOfNorns  [author] 6 Jul @ 12:51am
@HEAVYHITTER451

Sorry to hear that, I will try and find some time to test the mod and see if it is not working for me also. I would recommend to try running this mod alone, with no other active mods on a clean save/profile to establish whether it is this mod that is not working or whether another mod is causing a conflict.

By stopped working, do you mean that the route adviser has defaulted back to the original layout, or there is some other problem?
HEAVYHITTER451 29 Jun @ 7:18am
this mod has stopped working for me now
Rumbleball 27 Mar @ 2:38pm
Thanks. Played around a bit and it works better now. Main issues seem was Anisotropic Filtering 0. Seems to be very important for VR

If you want to rearrange the individual elements which make up the overlay, it is a tedious process of learning which element is which field in the .sii file, changing coordinate values in small increments in the direction you want and then testing in game. I commented the original values of any changes so that should give an idea of how far something has moved (mod) from the original position (stock). I cannot remember, but I think the coordinate values may be for the top left corner of an element, and ‘screen’ 0,0 is also top left.

If you instead wanted to play around with the .cfg file values while in-game, you can enable the dev console and make repeated changes which might be simpler. It is difficult exactly to picture the problem you describe but perhaps try adjusting dist_game also. So, fov_game to increase the scale, and dist_game to push the overlay away so things are not so far apart but still readable.
Rumbleball 26 Mar @ 5:33pm
Thanks, that thing is great. Unfortunately I can't use it with your recommended settings as its to small (quest 1, lots of pixels).

If I set the scale in the config to
*r_manual_stereo_ui_fov_game "80"*
it has a readable size, but everything is spaced to far apart.

I checked the mod and opened the .sii file with notepad++. Lots of field where you made comments and changed values. I want to adjust these values to my need.
Is there a better way to change test values expect testing randomly and rebooting the game every time?
ruleaba 15 Feb @ 10:30pm
Thank you for your confirmation.
I changed the config as you advised, and now the display is back to the same as before and I can play comfortably.
FateOfNorns  [author] 15 Feb @ 4:01am
Thanks for pointing this out, it does seem that a recent update may have changed the default values of the following config.cfg fields to the following values.

uset r_manual_stereo_ui_pitch_game "-10.0" (pitch down)
uset r_manual_stereo_ui_yaw_game "-40.0" (yaw right)
uset r_manual_stereo_ui_y_game "-0.2" (translate down)
uset r_manual_stereo_ui_x_game "0.5" (translate right)

I would suggest that you change these all back to “0” which will center the user interface again.

As noted in the mod summary you may need to further modify the various field values listed to achieve the desired user interface positions in both the menu and the in-game route adviser overlay. The values given in the summary are my own user interface size and position settings, they may not work for everyone and should be adjusted in small amounts as needed to meet your preference.

Hi, I have this mod that is indispensable when playing in VR.
Due to a recent update, it appears that officials have moved the user interface display position for VR from the front of the handle to the front, diagonally to the right.
Due to this, the user interface position display for this mod has been shifted.

Thanks, indeed to go back to 1.49 it is something like a 20gb download, then to try again with 1.50 I'm looking at another 26gb download so it is hard to play test properly without two computers running two different versions on the game. I'm struggling to play play test both versions :PhogsSad:

Nice to know it isn't just me missing the speed indicator. When it reappears, I will try to fix the speeding warning red background.
AllocDK 18 May, 2024 @ 7:57am
Great job - I will unsub and resub to test it out.

About the speed indicator, it does not show after we updated to 1.50 - I have not tried to go back to 1.49 to check if its still there
FateOfNorns  [author] 18 May, 2024 @ 3:59am
Red box when speeding issue should be corrected (removed). For the moment I have just removed the red background on speeding entirely as a quick fix (by breaking the instruction to create a red background). When testing, I had the option turned off for 'speeding warning' in the gameplay settings so I had failed to notice this, thanks for pointing it out. If for some reason you still get this issue, then you can turn off the 'route adviser speeding warning' in the gameplay settings.

Probably you need to unsubscribe and resubscribe for the update to work, I did.

Is it just me that cannot see the speed indicated on the UI? I cannot correctly position and resize the red speeding warning background if I cannot see the text for the speed. For me, where the speed should be displayed (top left next to the map, above the bed/fatigue icon) I see nothing. Anyone else have this issue?
FateOfNorns  [author] 18 May, 2024 @ 3:05am
I have tested changing AA and Scaling settings while paused in-game and I can make it CTD with the mod and also without the mod active. I believe this may be a problem with the current game version/build and I do not think the mod is causing this since I can replicate the same result without the mod active.

It could be something to do with the config.cfg file settings for the UI relevant fields. Might be worth backing up config.cfg, deleting/moving it, so that the game creates another default copy on start up and testing again. I am a bit short of time today to troubleshoot this particular issue other than to advise it is not the mod causing it, either the current game build or the config.cfg settings.
FateOfNorns  [author] 18 May, 2024 @ 1:20am
As for this CTD issue, I will try to replicate by messing with graphics settings with the mod active and see if I can reproduce.
FateOfNorns  [author] 18 May, 2024 @ 1:15am
Thanks for the feedback.

Red box when speeding, I should be able to resolve; It will be the background of the speeding element which is red when speeding, transparent otherwise. I must have forgotten to move it and did not speed when testing.

For the overall UI size, indeed it is best for the user to play with the relevant config.cfg fields to suit their particular HMD, viewing preference and truck (I like to try to nestle the UI at the top of the windscreen, and will change the x,y,dist, fov as needed. Try using the dev console to find a nice setting as you can move the UI in-game that way, but I don't think you can use dev console with WoT account active as it will think you are trying to cheat.
AllocDK 17 May, 2024 @ 1:52pm
I just finished playing around.

First, i am going to toy with the size, since on my Index its too small.

Then the red block, is when you are going over the speed limit. then it appears

Also, when i tryi to change my AA from 8x to 5x it crashed my game. It does not do that when i deactivate the mod

On 1.50
Hooded Crow 17 May, 2024 @ 1:49pm
I only had your mod active at the time, so there shouldn't have been a conflict, I was messing around with the graphic settings to see if I could make the shadows and flickering better at the time, this is when the force feedback settings I had seemed to revert to the standard ETS2 kind rather than the ones I had put through Logitech control app, I usually have a bit more resistance on the steering, the red block looked like the one that is at the corner of the standard route advisor but it was on its own in the middle of the screen not every time it was activated but maybe one in five. it would flick off if I f2'd it away and then come back maybe in another 5 presses of f2.

As far as I know the game version is the Steam one, playing on Valve Index, pretty beefy PC and graphics card 4080 Ryzen 9.
FateOfNorns  [author] 17 May, 2024 @ 10:02am
Sorry to hear things are not as expected.

I would think the force feedback issue is related to something else as this mod changes only a single file related to the UI. I do not see how it could possibly affect the force feedback.

Any CTD should have already happened on loading, so if already in-game then this mod should not be causing any CTD as far as I've experienced. Could be conflicting with another UI mod?

I was using red background during testing to differentiate between different background elements, so that could be related, maybe I missed something on testing and file review.

Could you let me know more detail about when these issues happen; action, event, button being pressed, etc...please, also your game version and I can look into it.
Hooded Crow 17 May, 2024 @ 6:56am
having a few issues with a red block popping up in the middle of the screen, force feedback settings seeming to turn off and a few crashes to desktop when trying to change some settings with this mod installed, have unsubscribed and resubscribed.
Shenzu 16 May, 2024 @ 11:24pm
Thank you for the Update!
AllocDK 16 May, 2024 @ 10:54pm
Thank you for the update - i will try it out when i get home from work later today
FateOfNorns  [author] 16 May, 2024 @ 4:27pm
Updated for compatibility with 1.50. You may need to unsubscribe and re-subscribe for it to properly update, it would not work for me unless I did that.

Feedback would be appreciated to know (a) if it works as expected for 1.50, (b) that it also still works for versions prior to 1.50 (c) any other anomalies I may have missed during my limited play testing

Note that I have increased opacity on the semi-transparent background which should make things easier to read hopefully. I had looked at changing some of the text colouring but was not having any luck so opted to just darken the background more.
Ghost 16 May, 2024 @ 9:09am
Take the time required, your work is appreciated. Thank you for sharing!
FateOfNorns  [author] 16 May, 2024 @ 6:37am
Indeed, I have spent all morning already revising and testing. This new update annoyingly has made various changes to the 'adviser_oculus.sii' file, previous updates left this file untouched, thus the mod will crash the game with 1.50 since it is referencing code from 1.49 which no longer exists in 1.50.

I have just tested my updates with ETS2 and it works, except for some reason I cannot get the speed to display, I'm not sure if that is an error in the vr branch itself as it does not appear to display either on the stock UI layout if I disable the mod, though perhaps I have a conflicting mod. I have also taken the opportunity to darken (lower opacity) the background for easier reading during day.

I still need to package the mod correctly so that it will work with versions <= 1.49 and >= 1.50 since now the file being changed by the mod (adviser_oculus.sii) differs between this and the previous versions.
Ghost 16 May, 2024 @ 5:34am
Same here on 1.50. Hopefully the author will look at it, this is a must have mod in VR.
AllocDK 15 May, 2024 @ 12:13am
Crash on 1.50
Nikbis 23 Mar, 2024 @ 2:42pm
