Hero! Thanks for this!

I squashed every bug that I could find but I did not extensively test it. If you find something please make sure to throw it in "Bug Reports" in discussions.

Updated for 1.6

For the folks who don't want the biome, there is a change in how you toggle it off. Now, instead of using VEF's toggle-able patches Edo Themed Expansion has its own dedicated mod settings page. By default the biome is enabled, switch it off before generating your save if you don't want the biome.
Hei  [author] 11 Jul @ 2:18pm
Doing some final tests here; Had to reinstall some code programs since the Biome code needed re-writing. If all is well I expect it to be uploaded in 10-30 minutes.
Keerith 11 Jul @ 2:14pm
You are fantastic, thank you! :D I am really looking forward to using these in my colony.
Hei  [author] 11 Jul @ 11:59am
For anyone coming to check on the mod for 1.6, I am in the process of updating it and should have it ready in a few hours if all goes well.
Hei  [author] 11 Jul @ 11:58am
Hey. Sorry its about half a month late but I never got an alert. it can be crafted in Crafting spots, hand or electric tailoring benches. It requires the edo clothing research to be completed first.
ГРЯЗНЫЕ_ЖОПЫ 27 Jun @ 9:24am
Hi, where can I get a cloak, I just don't have it anywhere in the crafts, even after studying the technology from the mod
Hei  [author] 10 Jun @ 3:55pm
I will continue support until 1.6, I tend to be pretty quick when I can but since this mod depends on other stuff, such as V.E framework, it also depends firstly on how fast they update their mods.

Although the ve team tends to be pretty quick.
fantasia5thsymphony 10 Jun @ 1:13pm
Really hoping this mod will get updated when 1.6 drops, one of my favorites on my modlist.
Hei  [author] 1 Jun @ 11:05am
The item is converted on harvest, I was originally going to have it be crafting for the paste but that didn't seem to fit the general spirit of rimworld, which tends to avoid crafting chains like that. So I decided to keep it simple instead.
Pippintastic 1 Jun @ 4:04am
Perhaps its because I'm blind/stupid... but how do I make the bean paste?
Head 12 May @ 9:44pm
Awesome mod!
Hei  [author] 26 Apr @ 10:32pm
It might be but I havent engaged with that content or tried Medieval 2 yet, so I would rather not promise anything I am unfamiliar with, but I will keep it in mind.
Arnokill57 26 Apr @ 7:50pm
Would it be possible to add compatibility with VFE-Medieval 2's Heraldry system? I would love to be able to create custom clan emblems on the Battle Banner apparel and the standing banner decorations!
zenii 20 Apr @ 2:30pm
Love the mod! Is there any chance you could add a 1x1 tatami? Would really help fill out rooms nicely.
fantasia5thsymphony 18 Apr @ 5:13pm
Hey, thanks for changing the mask to the newer version! I think it looks great, better than both before it.
Hei  [author] 17 Apr @ 11:15pm
I will probably not be making many adjustments to generation, if you load a ton of biome mods they overlap, its the nature of it, there are mods that let the player adjust the overlap by hand and change how common biomes are.
emihead 17 Apr @ 10:49pm
just so you know, the bamboo forest's generation on the world map overlaps very heavily with Lightless Empyrean: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3240799928
i had to make LE more common using another mod, otherwise the bamboo forest covered it completely.
imo, it should be a bit closer to rainforests - bambo tends to be located closer to the equator irl - but it's up to you how you choose to address this, if at all. great work on the mod!
Stychis 17 Apr @ 6:20pm
Yeah its probably compression too, I'm seeing it on stuff for vanilla as well in trace amounts. Nevermind then!
Hei  [author] 17 Apr @ 6:09pm
It seems like the nearby gun is doing it too, im guessing the outline isnt orange and more so its showing the ground below the shelf? it seems to match colors.

Im not sure whats causing it but I know rimworld textures can get glitchy when zooming in. Theres not much I can do regarding it. My guess is its due to stray very transparent pixels getting stretched, since I hand drew those ones vs using vector art.

So the tldr is it seems an issue involving how the game handles "feathering" or very, very transparent colors
Stychis 17 Apr @ 6:06pm
...I've come to notice that just about everything I use has the orange outline in some regard, nevermind.
Stychis 17 Apr @ 5:55pm
On the side, I also wanted to bring up an observation about the weapons: It appears they've gained some kind of orange outline? I say gained, because I dont remember them being on the graphic when I used them in 1.4. But I will admit I dont entirely remember, either.

https://i.imgur.com/8qWX0nT.png

I can confirm however that this outline doesnt exist when its held by a colonist or anything like that, its just the texture used when its on the ground or a shelf, etc.
Stychis 13 Apr @ 1:09am
Sure, no rush! Sorry about the mixups.
Hei  [author] 13 Apr @ 1:07am
I see. I'm a bit busy this week but Ill take a stab at it later and try to detect VGP and use their bamboo instead of mine
Stychis 13 Apr @ 1:06am
Yeah that goes hand-in-hand with my initial confusion back on 1.4 when I got wood from the original tall bamboo trees.

The mod I'm getting my Bamboo from is VGP Vegetable Garden: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2007061826
Hei  [author] 13 Apr @ 1:04am
If you figure out what mod it is, let me know. I can probably bake a patch into Edo that detects and doesnt add a dupe resource.

That being said, I more or less added it because I got periodic comments asking for the resource.
Stychis 13 Apr @ 1:02am
Oh, yes you're right. I had gotten so accustomed to my mod load set over the years that the line blurred on what was vanilla and what wasn't. Sorry about the confusion.

I'll fix it on my end then. I do like the new Bamboo trees texture though, on that note!
Hei  [author] 13 Apr @ 1:01am
There uh, There isnt existing bamboo? perhaps you are using another mod that adds the resource?

Unless you are referring to the new trees, which were entirely for the new biome, I wanted a denser grove feel and didnt think the vanilla trees fit the bill, also to make the biome more unique
Stychis 13 Apr @ 12:43am
I can't help but wonder to ask, why introduce a second variety of bamboo that is virtually the same as the existing bamboo in usage?

That complaint aside, I love the new stuff added with 1.5, especially the paper lanterns.
Hei  [author] 9 Apr @ 12:55pm
Yes, you can also see in the tags the mod is tagged for 1.5 and 1.4, Older versions of the game are held in an older legacy version of the mod.
Neckykzf 9 Apr @ 12:27pm
hello sorry for bothering does it work with 1.5?
Hei  [author] 3 Apr @ 7:18pm
It should be but I havent tested it nor had any reports on it. That being said it doesn't have any integration with the mod or special features
shimizu01 3 Apr @ 5:13pm
is it compatible with Rice cultivating civilization?
Hei  [author] 23 Mar @ 1:25pm
There are new versions, I just forgot to update the links. Should now link to the 1.5 version now, thanks!
roman 23 Mar @ 12:18pm
Just a heads up, the link to the Samurai Faction redundancy patch goes to the 1.3 version, instead of the 1.5 version that's currently a thing.
Hal Cortese 20 Mar @ 12:40pm
older graphics design was better imho
Hei  [author] 19 Mar @ 1:23pm
No not right now. My window of free time is closing and last time I worked with patching stuff into empire titles, the musical instruments, it drove me near insane lol. I'll keep it in mind and patch it eventually but I wouldnt expect it soon.
(≡◉‿‿◉≡) 15 Mar @ 3:02am
@Hei hello, please can you make the Edo Throne satisfy as an Empire Throne? as well as the Andon as a Brazier.
SAUCE__GODD 12 Mar @ 9:07am
thank you
Hei  [author] 12 Mar @ 2:14am
Might be some truth to that. Ill think on it.

https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1RWj91-Mhdu0oMqcY3EfNpOsvbx6zby9Z

This google drive has a patched version with the older mask variant. Right click it and download it.
In case you have never installed a mod manually, right click rimworld in your steam library, click properties, in the Installed files tab click the browse button next to "size of installation" Then just drop the downloaded folder into the "mods" folder in the rimworld directory.

I would also advise you unsubscribe from this mod and wait a few minutes to let the process finish, rimworld doesnt like having two mods with the same id present.
SAUCE__GODD 11 Mar @ 9:45pm
Oh, could you please?

I really just prefer the mask from the early version, it's very expressive and sinister than the new one, IMO
Hei  [author] 11 Mar @ 12:05pm
If all you want is just the old update let me know what it is you wanted from it. The textures before the update, None of the two new items, or both. I wont upload an entire mod for it but I can give you a google drive link to a snapshot version.
Hei  [author] 11 Mar @ 11:55am
How old are we talking here? Like just before the last update old? Before I went and started updating my work to a higher standard there was the 1.3 version, I left it up but hid it.

SAUCE__GODD 10 Mar @ 10:11pm
DOn't get me wrong, you're talented, and I appreciate what you've done to update this mod for us

Is there any way we could get an option for the old version?
(≡◉‿‿◉≡) 9 Mar @ 9:39pm
It's working now. Cheers! :grandiafist:
Hei  [author] 9 Mar @ 1:10pm
Update on 3/9/2025:

Fixed wall attachments for Shikui walls
Added Cloak armor
Added Fukiya (Poison blowdart)
Texture updates

The other content added was originally part of a larger themed update around "realistic" ninja style stuff. Guerilla warfare stuff not magic or anything. But I paused work and never picked it up, so I am dropping it with this patch fix.
Hei  [author] 9 Mar @ 12:31pm
Yes ive found the source of the issue, 1.5 introduced a new tag you have to add to walls that I didn't know about when updating. I should drop a patch soon but I need to finish cleaning up some beta content I was creating.
