What happend with your previous mod Guns of Bretonnia 2.5? I really wanted to have vampire muskeeters and now i dont see this mod anywhere
Shouravik 24 Jun @ 9:43am
Are these units impacted by research/red line bonuses?
Karl Sturm  [author] 13 Jun @ 8:13pm
@Smooth: Thank you, I am glad you are enjoying the MOD, that was the intent from the get go.
Ignaeon 12 Jun @ 3:16pm
It's actually fairly lore-accurate. The only inaccurate part is Dukes using them outside of navies.

Guns aren't illegal, they're just not used because of noble tradition and disdain, but there are plenty of border lords and such that utilize guns at the cost of a reputation hit.
Smooth 11 Jun @ 10:29pm
Thanks, Karl. You've done the Lady's work with this mod, and it has revitalized my love for Bretonnia. I know it's not lore accurate, but I never really cared for the whole "3 good units and then a peasant army weaker than skavenslaves" concept gameplay wise. I just love the aesthetic and characters and this mod helps make them fun to play through a whole campaign
Karl Sturm  [author] 11 Jun @ 6:15pm
@smooth: That's a good question, thanks for asking, -I have a massive and final update coming in the form of "Guns of the Vampires" which also includes a large update for Bretonnia, After that I am exploring the unreal game engine and looking at how feasible it would be for me to make my own game, - either way, it will be the last update for total war games. And the answer to your question is, yes, I would. GOB3 belongs to you guys.
Smooth 11 Jun @ 8:33am
Would you be willing to give the files to other people to update and maintain this mod after the last update for it?
Ignaeon 30 May @ 10:28am
Heads up to interested parties; I have created a submod for Guns of Bretonnia and Dynamic RoR

@CN, send me a friend invite or a steam message and il share a sneak peek at what field Commander will look like.

I saw a game with a very cool theme and I hope you can make it. I am looking forward to games with this theme (of course... if there is a trailer, please kick me and I will support your) :):steamhappy:
Karl Sturm  [author] 6 Apr @ 1:18am
@Wiator: I'm not completely sure im tracking. it sounds like you like GOB3 and will miss it once it inevitably becomes unusable again by an update (and finally taken down by me), -but im not sure what you mean; I can tell you this. -Me moving away from making MODS for total war games has nothing to do with profit or recognition, after all over the years i have invested tens of thousands of man hours to get to where i am -for zero profit and very little recognition, but there comes a point at least in my case, where you want to put the knowledge you have acquired into a project of your own (look at Manor lords) and have the artistic freedom to develop your own ideas "unconstrained" something you could never do by making MODS for someone else's creation. thanks for posting. :steamhappy:

No, it's not good news RR, I'd rather say it's a bunch of bad news Karl. Not only is mod development basically coming to an end, but there's also a lack of motivation, or they were "so-so" from the very beginning. No offense, but it's the result of, let's say, the shock of finally finding a mod that stands out from the "ultra-pro-better-fix-over" ol' god of production and... losing it. It's a really bad feeling. And then there's CA in the background, and the huge expectations that what? That they'll notice or shower you with money? After all, they're creators, they look from a different perspective, and they don't have to empathize with the emotions of every ant that prays for their "favorite" changes. I think you either make a cool mod for yourself and the rest benefit, or you grow parsley for the poor. BEST

@Karl Sturm: Hey, grand news! I wish you good luck in the industry! Hopefully this modding experience has granted you many useful knowledge and skills to use in the creation of your own dream games, I hope I get to hear about it!
Karl Sturm  [author] 25 Mar @ 9:02pm
@Rougue the Rougue: Thanks for the offer I appreciate it, but the core principal of it is that im tired of working for CA "pro-bono" creating content to improve their lack luster games:steamsalty:. I will update GOB3 one last time and then I am moving on to creating my own RTS using the incredible unreal engine 5, it will take me a few years but we will get there "the title of my RTS is going to be "Field Commander 1792" Napoleonic wars, with realistic army sizes 20k to 50,000 units per team, on a modern cutting edge game engine, with a level of quality that will make CA execs cry.
Roque the Rogue 19 Mar @ 5:52pm
If you need assistence I am more than willing to pitch in for some graphical work, know my way around textures and could try to make some unit cards for you, sire

I have seen how difficult Creative Assembly is, since Rome 2, since Atilla.

Good luck trying to read script log and crash reports still, have to learn psychic precognition to comprehend why stuff keeps breaking

Anyways thanks for the reply! honestly, wasn't expecting a reply at all, lots of mod authors seem so busy, only interested in bug reports.

Hyped for what's coming!
Roque the Rogue 19 Mar @ 5:51pm
@Karl Sturm, hey I fully sympathize with the struggle, I am a modder myself and I know what that's like, having a problem you cant fix, losing sleep imagining what else you could do, in fact, there's always something better we could do we're all fully aware of that fact, didn't mean to be that annoying guy that's never satisfied
I recognize all the effort you put in this mod, for balance, unit cards, upgrade system, this mod for what it is supposed to be, is near perfect.
Karl Sturm  [author] 19 Mar @ 5:39pm
@Rogue the Rogue: Thank you for taking interest in GOB3, I am traditionally a historical total war player and modder, and have been doing this for many years, GOB3 was a fringe project never intended for release to the general public, this because I know how fans of the series hold Warhammer lore very close to their hearths, and that deviating from it can in many cases be taken as an insult, hence giving guns to Bretonnia was in itself a deep deviation from the lore and reason enough for people to down-vote the mod by giving it a negative rating, nevertheless the mod was made many years ago as a fun little project to be shared with a few friends only, but to my surprise there was a lot of interest in it, and I was asked to release it to the general public, so I did.
Karl Sturm  [author] 19 Mar @ 5:39pm
- Its also worth pointing out that trying to balance a game were there are monsters, zombies, and ethereal creatures, from a developer standpoint is a real nightmare, -how many musket shots does it take to kill a zombie? as a logic based person, the aforementioned problems were causing me to loose sleep, after all we make these mods with deep love and dedication and we want people to enjoy the experience they bring to the game, but then I realized that at the end of the day "this is a fantasy based universe" there are no real world physical constraints or parameters -only your imagination, and it is in that spirit that I have opted to go against the tide, and provide powder weapons to Bretonnia.
Karl Sturm  [author] 19 Mar @ 5:38pm
- Also worth mentioning is the nightmare that is keeping these mods up to date and working given the incessant patches and core engine changes that CA releases seemingly on a weekly basis, while CA might have players believe that they are fully supportive and encourage Mods, as a developer I can tell you nothing could be further from the truth, their game engine is archaic, their update structure brakes MODS (I believe deliberately) and the quality of their recent games, is a subject for another discussion, but people know where I am coming from, with all this said, GOB3 recently reached a five star rating, people are still downloading it, and i believe that is cause for celebration so expect a big update coming soon! -thanks for posting.
Roque the Rogue 19 Mar @ 5:57am
I want to like this mod, I will play with it but its quite disconcerting how much these new units look like imperial state troops, while I do understand that trade, economy and culture would play some influencing their equipment, all those frills and fancies look too much for paesants, suit more imperials than bretons, they need more heraldry, tabards, hoods, symbols of their kingdom, don't think they would be capable of giving so much steel plate to infantry, not even via trading with nuln, cannons and guns on the other hand...

see what I mean with the mod below

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2974426452
these still somewhat ragged, aggresively hon hon hon with the fleur de lis and helmet style, heraldry all over

Seeing armoured bretonnians set me off due to how unusual it is, I'll concede that, well, time to play cease my disbelief, thank you Karl for all your effort and work making this mod.
el ruso 18 Mar @ 12:48pm
can you make the units research compatible?
VeCo359 14 Mar @ 8:20am
Please update!
Karl Sturm  [author] 9 Mar @ 11:57am
@inanimatepower: yes -the musket sound effects are custom (they are loosely based on "murphy's muskets" an old-school mod for Napoleon TW), and they were a Pain in the &^$%^# to implement, I suppose I could do a sub-mod, If I get a bit of time. Thanks for posting.:steamhappy:

Inanimatepower 27 Feb @ 10:32am
it almost certainly does have custom audio. can we get i submod please? I'd love it for all guns.
Inanimatepower 26 Feb @ 4:47pm
Does this add custom audio for the rifle effects? Has A nice snap to it

@Karl Sturm - Hi Karl, I was in the WH2 Workshop and I noticed that in Guns of Bretonnia 2.5 you had some Vampire Counts units that seemed really cool. I was just wondering if you have any plans to port those over in a separate mod?

Ps love this mod!!!!!
Ignaeon 11 Jan @ 4:04pm
Yes
REITERPALLASCH 11 Jan @ 5:58am
@Ignaeon will this mod work without guns, smoke, spectacle and reloading mod?
Ignaeon 9 Jan @ 12:12am
@Karl Nice, been pretty busy lately, but it'll be nice to have more archers.

I may have to break immersion and give them to Iolaos, though. I've gotten a bit obsessed with the "Brudder to the Sun" lol
Karl Sturm  [author] 7 Jan @ 10:54pm
@cloak&Dagger: ha ha wasn't that in a recent Ridley Scot film?
Cloak&Dagger 4 Jan @ 12:03am
Your mod is still the only way I play Bretonnia. The only way it could be better is if you added a Napoleon faction with unique mechanics so that I could guillotine all the Bretonnian nobility.

@Karl Sturm If/When I get Pharaoh, yours'll be the first workshop I check out. lol
dassh99 13 Dec, 2024 @ 7:25pm
@Ignaeon Omg thanks so much I can now bomb everything in my campaign without using the console command lol
Karl Sturm  [author] 13 Dec, 2024 @ 5:41pm
@Ignaeon -:steamhappy:Awesome work boys, that's the spirit; I gotta say, i was pleasantly surprised with Pharaoh Dynasties, il be posting my Bow huntress unit mod on that workshop soon, if anyone is interested in OP hot babes mowing down clowns with their longbows.
dassh99 13 Dec, 2024 @ 10:19am
@karl Sturm that would be great it will just make my life easier and to top it all off I won't be dependent on the console command and play the game normally.
Ignaeon 12 Dec, 2024 @ 11:12pm
Yes! We are! lol

When my mod list is updated enough for the game to launch after this update, I'll make a submod to make Lily's armory changes compatible with GoB.

You did amazing work and it shouldn't be sullied by reducing it in scope!
Karl Sturm  [author] 12 Dec, 2024 @ 9:59pm
@dassh99, If i find a bit of time il take alook at updating the mod and getting rid of the armory branch and just have the town levels serve as a recruiting tree. are people even still playing this mod?
Karl Sturm  [author] 8 Dec, 2024 @ 3:44pm
@dassh99, you guys go to such lengths to mix up your mods, lolz.. good wk tough.
dassh99 30 Nov, 2024 @ 6:23pm
Side note:
Since this mod can't touch or upgrade the smith properly the command I suggest is;
bb wh_main_brt_smiths_4 so that it will be at the max and will bypass the bug so that this building will be build.
dassh99 30 Nov, 2024 @ 5:42pm
Your mod works with Lily's mod; granted with some minor console command that needs to be inputted in-game.

Courtesy by TMSaber:
For those who cant upgrade the smithy use the console command bb wh_main_brt_smiths_2 to force it to build a tier IV then you can build the tier III then build the tier IV again
Planewalker 30 Nov, 2024 @ 12:52pm
Comments on the required smoke mod for this one states that units do no damage.
-requiring another smoke mod might be prudent. (required one not updated)
PanzerJäger 20 Nov, 2024 @ 10:17am
I cannot seem to upgrade peasant mobs into milicia with the warband function. It stays greyed out. even with high veterancy.

Also is there a chance we can get the unit keys for the console?
Modern Spartan 7 Nov, 2024 @ 2:53pm
I was trying to conquer the empire, yes XD
Mordecai 6 Nov, 2024 @ 9:38pm
Literally my only gripe is the unit cards doesn't match the vanilla unit cards buts that but i'll blame my ocd for that, besides that this mod is excellent. I would really lovely to see the models used for an Empire reskin mod
