Is it a softlock if you get to the 1-dot side and place both portals there?
chimera 1 Mar, 2019 @ 8:16pm
i haven't even played this and this looks so nice
ChrisLP 21 Feb, 2019 @ 9:11am
Yeah the idea is the same as how I did it, but you should know 2 things:
First, I can shoot portals and pass right through the glass on the left wall marked with 3 dots.
That helps a lot with my solution because it doesn't involve using momentum to get on the lightbridge.
Second, since there's a companion cube, I've never respawned it or lost it, I see you've pressed the pedestal button and fizzled it for faster acquirement of it back.

@C.L.P.ortal: thank you so much for playing my maps and for your praises! I'm happy to hear that :D Regarding the official solution, it's already there in the description tab beside the screenshots, and in my Youtube channel ;) Cheers!
ChrisLP 10 Feb, 2019 @ 9:00pm
Please man, i have one request could you post a video with the intended solution or do you think a lot of people who couldn't solve it will watch it and that's gonna ruin the whole thing? I'm saying that because there's certainly a lot of things i've done that i'm 90% sure i shouldn't.
ChrisLP 10 Feb, 2019 @ 8:56pm
Man, another masterpiece of JosePezDj as always, thank you and congratulations, my dear friend! It started off trying to frustrate me because i was "afraid" of doing something that'd turn out badly, but then, i confess i've noclipped every time i failed to do something, but that's not cheating at all, it's just not wasting much time, and little by little i've found the intended perfect and awesome solutions. All of your chambers have always been so geniously well designed and also very difficult to solve, so it's not just the general straight-forward "ok, i know what to do" kind of chamber, it's just the most clever pieces on the workshop! Ghoul was so small and i will always remember that name because it was the one i couldn't solve...
jandlml 24 Mar, 2018 @ 7:53pm
i hate that i couldnt get the strafing. i had to noclip to get high enough just couldnt do it. but i solved the actual puzzle myself. its so upsetting when that happens. i really loved the puzzle itself. even after ten years of playing this game my strafing abilities stink. i almost got it a couple times.

An interesting and challenging map.

More than 90 minutes (!) of playthrough: https://youtu.be/cagPqCiD_P0

*checks intended solution video*

I never needed that ninja bridge move at the start of your solution video. It's easier (but slower) to portal behind the back lower area, walk out on the side, and use the bridge to get back to the middle of the area, then use successive portal placements to crawl vertically upwards.

I found the latter section of this map (once the second cube is retrieved) to have an interesting property: there are a lot of promising solutions that are wrong, and startlingly different from each other. There's the funnel ascent and the laser fling. So I start with kinda the right solution, switch to a different wrong solution, and then finally the true

(Flinging in the laser room was irritating. Was I missing something?)
josepezdj  [author] 9 Feb, 2016 @ 2:11am
@Petutski: honestly, this is, if not the most, one of the most convoluted puzzles I've made :p I still like it, but I must admit it is really annoying to solve at times. Nevertheless, that lightbridge jump can be achieved in many ways, and most of them are quite difficult ways :D I've seen some solution videos and still can't understand how ppl persist in doing it their way (I would have also given up!)... I think I show a relatively performable way in my official solution video. Same goes for flinging up and down: many players move the camera way too much while flying instead of aiming and focusing in a point before shooting...
Of course this map requires some skills, it isn't an easy map... I'm sorry that you gave up :( But thanks so much for playing!
Cheers!
Petutski 8 Feb, 2016 @ 10:28am
Well, for some this may have been a great map, but for me, after doing the ninja lightbridge jump three times it became tedious and annoying. Sorry IMHO.

Very good :steamhappy:

... I had the wrong cube on the ceiling fizzler button so it caused a terminal problem with finishing - had to noclip them around. Not sure how to know that I had the right cube on the right button in advance - guess I swapped them one too many times...

Hey josepezdj - Thanks for the playthrough - really helped with hints. I would definitely have taken a long time to get the last bit. Unfortunately for me, I had the wrong cube on the ceiling fizzler button so it caused a terminal problem with finishing - had to noclip them around. Not sure how to know that I had the right cube on the right button in advance - guess I swapped them one too many times. Also had some trial/error issues with the flings up to the upper platform (3dot & 4dot) - I couldn't reliably catch the portal funnel - F6 saved me. Still, another brilliant map - thanks. Looking forward to your mod....
josepezdj  [author] 17 Jan, 2015 @ 5:10am
Hey quatrus! thanks for playing, mate! well I guess it's about time to post the official walkthrough video. You might want to check it to pass that point ;)

The reason why Toncica's demo isn't working anymore is because I updated the map after he posted it... demos need the exact map they were recorded for in order to be shown, if the map has changed and it's not really the same map anymore, they're useless.

Solution Video up. Find it near the images at the map's description.

Cheers!
quatrus 16 Jan, 2015 @ 11:43am
Well, I feel stupid - I've got both cubes but I can't figure out what to do with them. Toncica's .dem file doesn't seem to work for me (unless I am doing something wrong? seems it can't open the workshop undecide.bsp).. Oh well, I'll wait for the walkthrough to see where I messed up... Also got tired of light bridge retrieval(s)..... thanks for creating another very challenging map.
josepezdj  [author] 4 Sep, 2014 @ 10:32pm
The map has been updated.
h99pilot 17 Aug, 2014 @ 1:22pm
What a long, strange trip that was.
Octahedron 8 Aug, 2014 @ 4:56am
I have successfuly beaten this one now, it makes me feel so good solving this. I did have some help with the part I was stuck on in part 2 (do you really have to through the cube across the gap in the top lazer room?). Regardless your awesome design and cool tricks made this one awsome. But like ken just said repeating the light bridge jump was kind of anoying but never the less an interesting way of geting the light bridge out of the room.
ken.roberts 7 Aug, 2014 @ 4:56pm
As toncica's run-thru shows . . . the last part is suddenly very simple (unlike the rest). I got through this most of the way but frankly - tired of the "Light Bridge routine" as you have to do that so many times. Nevertheless this was intriguing !! I mistakenly thought that the funnel should be used near the end, to get up to the hight parts. But I was SADLY mistaken.
P.S. the map kept lagging after a few mins. After troubleshooting for a day - I found the Fan on my GEforce card had become locked up and the axle burned into the board itself and was not abe to spin. Amazing I was able to do everything except Portal with a non-cooled Video card ! !
Octahedron 31 Jul, 2014 @ 9:01am
As always your design never stops impresing me and at the same time I always can't get step 2 down properly. I can always get started, but after that I am all DDDDDDUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
PS: I like the whole symmetrical design, I don't really see how this is straight though, but cool map as always.
PPS: Any updates on the mod?
URMarty 27 Jul, 2014 @ 9:06am
Sweet map!
Cleanerman247 26 Jul, 2014 @ 6:52pm
What do you do at the beginning?
(a lot of not so talented people are asking that.)
Haggis 24 Jul, 2014 @ 3:22pm
Yes,Yes, Yes, i solved it. That is 2 maps in a row of yours Jose i have solved. Took me a few days to get there though. Very well thought out and very devious, loved it. When i have time, will look at the video solution to see if it was the same as the way i did it, but every move seemed intended. Fantastic work as usual. Oh, just about forgot, when i finished the map there was no thumbs up, also i have took a screenshot of the water, from this angle it looks weird.
Lepo 23 Jul, 2014 @ 3:08pm
Maybe the hardest map i ever tryed. Give up after 1 or 2 hours. I have watched a video for the solution and i don't like the way needed to solve this. Too much reflexes needed and high risk of death or to repeat parts.
But still, congratulation for the work.
Nalkahn 22 Jul, 2014 @ 7:02pm
Nice map, observation i required, lot of reflexion. But there is no need of pool in area 2, and I'm not sure about the white surface in funnel room : i was planning to use them, but finaly i didn't use them to solve the test. And hopefully this time i wasn't stuck, so no chair needed ;)
Shane 22 Jul, 2014 @ 6:44pm
I have some purple textures
josepezdj  [author] 22 Jul, 2014 @ 8:34am
@Toncica: yeah! really clean run, man! everything as intended except the last bits. I think the ending to this puzzle is rushed, since I had so few time to publish it before the competition deadline :p I'll work a bit on it ;) Thanks a lot for the playthrough! :D
toncica 21 Jul, 2014 @ 10:48pm
played with confusion under horrible lag, not related to your map: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16159596/und_ton.dem
josepezdj  [author] 21 Jul, 2014 @ 8:56pm
@Toncica: well, yes... :D I'd like to see oyur solution if possible :)
toncica 21 Jul, 2014 @ 8:42pm
Is the grated surface at the lift platform (picture 5) needed for the intended solution? I didn't use it in my latest playthrough.
quat 21 Jul, 2014 @ 12:38pm
A tiny thing I noticed just before I solved it - in dot 4, the projected texture just vanishes if you stand on the raised area where the lift is. Odd.

Anyway I felt like the smartest person on the planet for solving it, so props for that :D
josepezdj  [author] 21 Jul, 2014 @ 12:10pm
Oh, sorry, quaternary! I just saw what you mean in a video by Prototype :D Thanks!
josepezdj  [author] 21 Jul, 2014 @ 12:02pm
@Cyhborg: Thanks dude for the comments. To be honest, it's been a real nightmare to finish this puzzle design; from the layout to the details in order to avoid unintended stuff while still keeping the symmetry... I know that fault you mention even Requiemsoul was going to kill me when he noclipped to the top of dot-3 to check that I changed the button, from a floor button to a pedestal one! lol, he tried forever to carry one cube to there when it's impossible :D . About the glitch on the picture, it's a problem of visleaves, I'll see what I can do against it, thanks for pointing out! ;)

@p0rtalmaster/pa1ntmaster/:p: thanks for pointing out those details, man. Noted.

@quaternary: top area? you mean dot 3, maybe 4, maybe the part where the weighted cube dropper is? :P
quat 21 Jul, 2014 @ 11:53am
Oh, forgot to mention - when you get to the top area with the weighted box, you can just throw it across the gap which makes it way too easy to get. Can't see any other way though :(
The Sojourner 21 Jul, 2014 @ 12:50am
And finally found the solution (probably not the intended one though :P I wouldn't worry about it). One other small artsy detail I noticed was that one light strip on the ceiling in the laser room was slightly off causing that weird-looking z-fighting effect. Other than that and the issues cyhborg mentioned, this one is pretty much good to go :p2cube:
The Sojourner 21 Jul, 2014 @ 12:26am
Seems there's an interesting tradeoff in complex tests between preventing little exploits and trapping the player. I was now able to get trapped on the other side (at 4-dots), as well as on the little ledge in front of the flip panel. Ultimately though, this assumes the player has done nothing more than misplaced their portals.

Still trying to figure this one out, especially with all those changes, you monster ;) :p2cube:
cyhborg 20 Jul, 2014 @ 10:20pm
Definitely feels more solid than the earlier drafts. Great job with the details. The only fault of this map is that you can't really see/explore all of the map until you have the cubes, so it's quite difficult to plan ahead. Also, I noticed a weird shimmer effect:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=289157482 . I think I know what Stuntmanmyke means: For the last part, you need two cubes, ie one for the lift/glass panel and the other for the flip panel. But once the flip panel is activated, the cube for the lift/glass panel is no longer needed. It's just sitting there.
josepezdj  [author] 20 Jul, 2014 @ 9:09pm
Thanks all for commenting! :D A solution video will be available soon but I want to make sure there aren't any unintended routes before posting it.

@Stuntmanmyke: well, I thought I did >.< The intended solution does require 2 cubes at the dots-4, and I'm afraid I'm still missing something, would you be able to record a video or demo of your solution? :) Thanks in advance!
SevenSilhouette 20 Jul, 2014 @ 6:56pm
Really good map, would love to see a video walkthrough to make sure i solved everything correcty.
The Sojourner 20 Jul, 2014 @ 6:31pm
Excellent esthetics; GLaD I could help. I'll come back to solve this one when I have the time.
Stuntmanmyke 20 Jul, 2014 @ 6:18pm
That was a real good puzzle but i think you can improve the last part for force to use all cubes at the end. Big thumb's up !!
quat 20 Jul, 2014 @ 11:24am
I got the box, now I feel accomplished enough :P

Imma try to record demos - probably give up halfway through :P
