Could you port this to CS Source?

Militia isn't particularly difficult, it's just kind of tedious. Airstrip is a lot harder.

It seems like you're right, I just decompiled cs_militia and all of the rocks are off-grid. I can't imagine rebuilding cs_militia from scratch though, it would be a nightmare.

It's the opposite actually. With smaller maps there's less chance for WinBSPC to royally fuck up the brushes. I have ported multiple large maps, including several of the Blue Shift and OpFor Xen ones and I can tell you the WinBSPC decompiles were almost entirely unusable. The only thing that was hard in those was stuff like rocks and the Xen crystals and WinBSPC couldn't help with it either.

On the topic of de_survivor, I would actually say that map is easy. Tedious, but easy. The only difficult brushes there are the ice crystals and the snow banks, everything else is rather uncomplicated. Also, WinBSPC brushes are misaligned as long as they are not completely flat-sided, I observed this multiple times.

Though I do consent that WinBSPC is probably better for as_oilrig as a unique case, due to how that map is shaped. Certainly would not want to use it on stuff like de_airstrip though.

BSP2MAP might be a better option if you're porting smaller and simpler maps, but what about maps like de_survivor? Not only would it take forever to rebuild the entire map, but It would also be very difficult because the map is full of complex shapes (rocks, terrain, plane, cars, crystals, etc.). Most brushes produced by BSPC are not misaligned or invalid, only very complex ones are.

WinBSPC geometry is very wonky since the way it works is by carving the map out of a single block The only upside to WinBSPC is that it can sometimes produce full brushes for complex shapes. I started out using WInBSPC but quickly traded it for BSP2MAP because the WinBSPC geometry was just THAT messy, not to mention it was usually misaligned to the grid.

Yep. Whats wrong with it? The only other alternative is bsp2map and that's only useful if you're willing to rebuild the map completely from scratch using the decompile as a reference, and even then it's not going to be perfect. The only downside to using bspc is a few invalid brushes that you can easily fix.
Moon. 25 Nov, 2022 @ 3:19am
Oh dear, that's not a good idea.

You used WinBSPC I assume?
bdbd  [author] 25 Nov, 2022 @ 3:17am
I remade a few broken/invalid brushes i could find and that's it.
Moon. 25 Nov, 2022 @ 2:58am
I know you are using a decompile, I'm asking if you rebuilt the broken geometry or left it as is.
bdbd  [author] 25 Nov, 2022 @ 1:39am
I decompiled it and fixed all the problems. Rebuilding this map would result in cleaner geometry but that would take forever and there would almost be no difference.
Moon. 24 Nov, 2022 @ 4:02pm
Damn you actually rebuilt this? The geometry on this one was super fucked. Did you somehow get a MAP source file or did you do it from scratch?
