I'm pretty sure everything was correctly aligned for the medium shield. Can you share a screenshot showing what is happening for you ?

Hey, I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the medium shield glow not being in the correct position? For some reason, it displays the glow not around the shield origin but the bottom right corner of the... tile, I suppose. Could just be the 10358 mods I have running at any given moment, but nonetheless.

@Updates, i do not know at all how the steam workshop works,
but from what i heard, it is worse than youtube.
( I do not know how youtube works either,
but apparently you cannot _just_ rename or update some video )
And as we all know, on steam, NOT EVEN the message boards work properly.

There's nothing redundant in the files, it's how they need to be setup to have multiple orientations. edge new direction+colour is a different combination of components being turned on and off.

The colours might be a little bit redundant with the "newer" UIColourWheelToggle, but I never figured out how to use it, and this mod is "working", so I don't want to break it trying to update/fix it, if that makes sense.

And yes there is lore/design reasons:
- small shields = low power, easily manipulated in both direction and arc shape
- medium shields = large shield power blasted through a small shield emitter. It is taking every bit of control to just get that to happen and project through the ship without ripping up the ship
- large shield = high power, not easy to adjust direction/arc shape

Greetings,
is it normal that the three versions do NOT share the same features?

It seems that ONLY with the small shield i have ALL options.

The medium shield can ONLY change colour not shape
and the large shield lacks the flat arcs.

Red- No one really cares. You make good MODs. Just keep making them. If I want to play what you made, decide to edit it or add it to other MODs to play a game... Im going to do that.

Ill say it once again... I love what modders do. But stop crying!. You take someone else's original work and edit it. But If some one takes what you have done... and edits that... we have to leave credit to your name? How about you leave credit to all the people that contributed to the source material that you took. You don't. Because legally you don't have to. So again RustyDios- STFU

So I just quickly tried this with a new game, using the Shield starter. Purchased the blueprint, replaced the default shield with the adjustable one. No Issues.

My guess is you don't have the Required Items mod (colourable parts utility)

I load a save get the blueprint and when i click it in build mode it crashes

Hey look, even though Rusty and I have slight disagreements about what constitutes stealing and such, he did ultimately do me a solid and help me out with the issues we were having. His mod is good and the beef we had was resolved.

Rusty is a good guy with a fairly neurotic exterior. :steamhappy:

As a complete aside to this whole current conversation though, the issue with Broadsiders was resolved way back in march , where a new mod was created to accommodate their desires AND they where taught how to use the modding tools/commands available to be able to do the mod<>mod edits they wanted to perform, without any theft of assets involved. Sidestepping the issue that was presented here and for any future issues they might encounter of a similar nature moving forward.

I'm not sure why 2 months later you decided to make a post on the subject ?

Look the situation is quite simple. The devs have given permissions to use the base game assets in any way that someone wants to, for the purpose of making mods for this game.

Once I had spent the hours editing that code and that art, the NEW stuff created by me, is 'technically mine' as an adaption of the original content (if you really really want we can go down the copyrighted material legal avenues, but it's an honestly dry subject). YES, there is some ambiguity and grey lines to walk through.

The newly edited works by me, did NOT have permission to be taken from this mod, and used elsewhere, and doing so was technically theft.

Now if he had taken the same -base game- assets that I had, and spent the hours changing it all himself and even created identical results, no issues, those would now be -his-.

I've been modding games for a LONG time. I think I have a pretty good grasp on the rules, regulations and laws.

Cosmoteer "code" has been given permission for use by the Dev, for the purpose of making mods with said code for the game. It's in the user-agreement of modding for the game. The same with any art/assets used in mods, as long as those are not used externally to the game, or shared or sold with the intent to make profit from those assets.

So shut the F*ck up yourself ... Read up on these things before you come slamming down at random on someone's mod on a thread/discussion that has long since been resolved.

That said. Thanks for saying it's a nice mod :) I hope you enjoy it.

Hey Rusty, did you ask permission before you stole cosmoteer code, alter it, then put it out there as your own? No? Then shut the F*ck up! Dont get me wrong, I love what the modding community does... But most of you are guilty of the same things you complain about. Like reread the car analogy bro. Its literally what you just did here. That being said, nice mod.

That's good to know. But I would still like to try. If I can't do it I won't want to use it anyways. So it's probably not going to be a big deal at all. If I can manage it would you allow me to use a copy, and then you can use what I have done as an update for this also?

Ah, well. Now I know what you intended to do. I can already tell you why I didn't do that already. If you replace the vanilla part there is a strong chance that you will mess up all vanilla ships. That is why it exists here as a sidegrade/additional instead of a replacer. I've already explored this route and met with my game crashing multiple times.

Hmm, I don't know how to respond to all this. Let me just tell you how I was thinking of using your mod if that's of interest to you.

I was going to replace the vanilla shield with the modular one here, since it seems to be a cool sidegrade type of deal, then give it the vanilla cosmoteer shield id, so it's seamless. I do agree with my community that it'd be a cool thing to have.

I would be totally down to just use your mod if you made a version like that instead. That was the thing that I wanted to edit.

I do find it a little bit hurtful that you feel there is stealing here, despite that we are asking and discussing. But yeah my mod is fairly extensive already. I've got a good grasp on how to use the mod.rules and how to make my own parts, which I have done a lot of. I understand the amount of time and hard work that goes into stuff like this.

Is what I am asking here really so bad? I would credit you in the description of my mod and provide a link.

I mean guys, let's be real here. It's all about how you ask. I've known Rusty for years and he's always been pretty damn generous to fellow modders. Who are open and honest with him straight away, not after the fact. We come from the xcom 2 modding scene (where Rusty is one of the leading modders, even if he denies it), where the spirit of cooperation is a major aspect. But so is the concept of RESPECT. Be honest, ask for help, build a freaking bridge for God's sake.

And things finally come to light. You don't wish to take it merge it into a small shared between friends mod. You wish to take it, alter it slightly, and then redistribute it in your own mod on the workshop. That is not acceptable to me.

If you have things you want me to adjust/change in the mod, I'm all up for listening to those suggestions and reasoning and make edits for you. But I do not wish for you to just steal my mod.

If you wish to make edits/changes from your mod to this one, that is also possible through your mod.rules files actions. (Ask on the discord about mod<>mod edits.)

It's my mod Broadsiders that Comrade is asking permission for. People really liked your stuff, they ran a poll on it in the discord.

I think there's another layer of complexity here that I'd like to add. It's good to be able to tweak the mod itself for our own purposes, which I can't really do if it's in a collection. Me adding it to my mod would be a fork of yours for the purpose of our small community. You'd be making like 12 people pretty happy xD.

It's also worth noting that on the steam workshop here, my mod is woefully poorly marketed if you go and take a look at it. Hahah. It's hardly going to damage your analytics. If it helps you at all I could make sure anyone who picks up my mod also grabs yours so there's no analytics problems. Is that suitable?

(Assuming there's a chance we could still use your work for our mod that is).

To be honest, the reasoning behind that decision is completely immaterial. You have politely asked to steal my mod, merging it into your own. I have politely declined. My decision isn't going to change and my explanation was given as a show of respect to you, not a requirement.

I would be surprised if any mod author just allowed you to steal all their 'work', but also, the sad truth is, I have no way to stop you from doing that if wished to do it anyway.

It makes a difference because it is technically 'theft' of assets should your mod ever be distributed. It means that this mods subscriber count and analytics don't get corrected. It makes me (and other modders) think there are less people interested in stuff like this, and people less likely to use the mod as it doesn't have "many subs".

IF Cosmoteer had an upper mod limit, or issues with mod load orders, I would understand. But it does not. There is no difference to using a single combined mod, or 50 mods.

Make a steam collection for your friends and they can download the modlist with one simple click. The only disadvantage is the one-time-setup of enabling all the mods.

I appreciate you asking for permission though and I thank you for doing so. My answer however is no, I do not wish my work to be merged into someone else's mod. If you choose to honour that or not is now on you.

Lets say it’s more like the latter, but for a private group of friends. What difference does it make wether it’s added to a collection or it’s added to a private modpack? The purpose is the same, it’s just that these people i’m working with are difficult and don’t want to subscribe to more than one mod (thus why we’re forced to compile them)

If you mean to add it to your own Steam Collection, then sure, that is what they are for.

If you mean to copy/steal all my code/art and roll it into one big mega-mod of your own, then no , I would not like that to happen.

I've just finished a game checking these are working for Build and Battle and followed it up with a quick Model-S career start (purchase adjustable blueprint, place, allow crew build, adjust shape & colours).

I didn't get any crashing.
