I have finally updated this mod to account for the last, well, quite a while of bug reports. Necroscourge, I had reproduction issues with your thing on the dinosaur men being weaker. I tested it a couple different ways, and I think it might have to do with Adventure Mode difficulty settings rather than the innate nature of the creatures.
Enemy Post  [author] 20 Jun @ 9:26pm
I still plan to get bugfixes in and keep the mod working, of course.
Enemy Post  [author] 20 Jun @ 9:25pm
NeoDwarf sounds interesting! I don't plan on making new sprites though. I'm honestly barely modding at all these days.
ParasiticSquid 20 Jun @ 6:53pm
Im just kind of waiting for either more fitting sprites so their not so out of place with default graphics or the completion of the neodwarf mod since that seems to somewhat fit the look of these to an extent.

Until then guess ill keep an eye on this since I for one want to feed elves and goblins to tamed prehistoric monsters

Have fun!

Wow! That's incredible, that the simulation is elegant enough to dynamically react to that sort of change. Love it!

I'll just head-canon that the dinosaurs caravans use come from other frontier forts like mine.
Necroscourge 22 Feb @ 9:47am
*nods* Death to elves.
Enemy Post  [author] 22 Feb @ 8:57am
I actually tried that in early development. It’s easy to make, but the consequences are that the elves get a power boost from living in a world with such dangerous animals and that they’re aware of the shift. That leads to the elves near-invariably becoming genocidal and wiping out all other civs in early worldgen, especially on smaller maps. You could still probably do it, it sounds fun! Just need to be prepared to adjust or remove the elves.
Chicago Zohan 22 Feb @ 7:50am
(I'm managing to simulate that experience by just butchering the random draft animals I start with and pretending my dwarfs hunted them on the way; but humans and dwarfs will still arrive with dinos in tow?)
Chicago Zohan 22 Feb @ 7:50am
How difficult would it be for me to create a sub-mod that makes it so that dwarfs and humans can never start with any tame dinos? It would just require making all dinos have only the exotic tag, right?

And Elves would still have access to dinos?

I'm imagining a setting where dinos are super wild and dangerous, and my fort deep in the wilderness is the first time dwarfs are interacting with dinos. Like, if the characters in the Arthur Conan Doyle book The Lost World were dwarfs striking the earth!

Much appreciated!
Enemy Post  [author] 28 Jan @ 12:03am
Thanks, Necroscourge! I'll look into that. Those first two issues sound like issues with the mod updating to the new version. Seems like it works, but the old ways I did things are behaving in unexpected ways. As for Australopithecus, they actually did used to work the way you describe. It turned out to have annoying consequences in Dwarf Fortress though, so I changed them to behave like vanilla apes.

Hello! I've been playing as dino-people in adventure mode and noticed a few interesting quirks that may need to be addressed.

* There are no descriptors for them, it merely remarks on their scale color. Thus all dino people sort of look alike.

* Strength seems to not be figuring right; for whatever reason as a spinoman or rexman I can barely hold 77 burden with high strength when human characters can hold 90-100. They are for whatever reason physically weaker than humans and struggle greatly in this aspect. I don't dabble in creature modding so I have no clue what is causing this.

*Australopithecus is mute and incapable of learning, when they could can [UTTERANCES] with [CAN_SPEAK] to reflect that they can make sounds out of their mouth but cannot speak "common"; they did in fact speak and used simple tools
Enemy Post  [author] 1 Jan @ 4:22pm
I'll make sure to correct that on the next update.
Ormi 1 Jan @ 12:36pm
vermin graphics are supposed to be addressed as VERMIN: not DEFAULT: fyi for anyone wondering why the vermin are invisible
Enemy Post  [author] 23 Sep, 2024 @ 6:03pm
Thanks IronyOwl! No, that's not intentional. I'll need to check that, but I'd suspect their icon is just misaligned. Thanks for letting me know.
IronyOwl 23 Sep, 2024 @ 2:43pm
Everything's better with dinosaurs!

Weird thing though, juvenile Saltopus appear with a mirror image of the adult sprite beneath them. Is this intentional or did you put that on there as comparison and forget to take it off? I'm playing heavily modded otherwise but I wouldn't think that'd affect dino sprites.
Enemy Post  [author] 17 May, 2024 @ 12:03pm
Thank you for understanding.
Necroscourge 16 May, 2024 @ 5:22pm
I was expecting something more akin to the base sprite but blown up and with a few random elements like different eyes and such but don't sweat it. If it's not needed to make it work then I am not worried
Enemy Post  [author] 16 May, 2024 @ 2:03pm
@Necroscourge, on second thought, I may not add actual portraits at this time. It looks like they aren't necessary for having a dinosaur man adventurer work, and I don't think I'm going to be able to draw vanilla-equivalent sprites as needed. Could just steal some, but I don't want to deal with the potential legal issues of having having any art in the mod that isn't credited or mine.

I might change my mind on portraits if I find a way to get decent ones, though.
Enemy Post  [author] 26 Apr, 2024 @ 10:06am
You're welcome!
Necroscourge 26 Apr, 2024 @ 8:42am
Awesomesauce, thanks duder
Enemy Post  [author] 26 Apr, 2024 @ 8:08am
Oh right, I need to do that, thank you for reminding me. I should get it done sometime next week or the one after.
Necroscourge 25 Apr, 2024 @ 10:22am
Can we expect an Primal adventure patch/mod for simple portraits? I plan to be the greatest Trex-person warrior of all time
Enemy Post  [author] 20 Mar, 2024 @ 11:08am
Glad you liked it, good luck with your dino-riders!
Thrice 19 Mar, 2024 @ 11:13pm
Cool! I loved this a few yrs ago when I played it :) Now I can have my dino-riding dwarf cavalry!
Enemy Post  [author] 17 Mar, 2024 @ 7:48pm
@Thrice Yes, it still works. I appreciate the interest!
Thrice 15 Mar, 2024 @ 10:37pm
This still work? (Ill try it out anyway, but just curious)
Enemy Post  [author] 30 Oct, 2023 @ 7:44am
Thanks!
Fancy Santa 29 Oct, 2023 @ 7:21am
Great mod. Thanks for keeping it simple!
Enemy Post  [author] 24 Sep, 2023 @ 4:32pm
@Axebeard, Don't mind at all, let me know when you do and I'll link it in Primal's description.
Axebeard 24 Sep, 2023 @ 12:45pm
I don't want to step on toes or anything, (if I have the time), do you mind if I upload an addon mod with my own sprites?
Necroscourge 6 Sep, 2023 @ 12:44pm
Oh for sure, I'd prefer if it were a separate module dependent on Primal
Enemy Post  [author] 6 Sep, 2023 @ 10:34am
@Necroscourge That could be fun! I deliberately restricted myself to not touching the entity files to avoid feature creep, but I'd enjoy the civ mod if someone made one.

@Gecko Thank you, glad you're enjoying it! Unfortunately, I don't expect the sprites to change much more. Clearly, I'm not an artist, and updating the art fully would require getting someone to commit to replacing the thousands of sprites.
GeckoEB 6 Sep, 2023 @ 9:49am
Love this mod, yet to find a T Rex but I await that day. Any chance of ongoing updated sprites n such?
Necroscourge 3 Sep, 2023 @ 11:37pm
I'd like to see an add-on for NPC dino-folk civs. I play with lots of extra civs so dino people civs to add into the mix would be great
Enemy Post  [author] 18 Jun, 2023 @ 5:29pm
@ Persona6 Thank you, much appreciated!
Persona6 18 Jun, 2023 @ 4:11pm
Just wanted to say thank you for your hard work!
Enemy Post  [author] 5 Jun, 2023 @ 3:52pm
@Lazer Platypus First, glad to hear you’re enjoying the mod! I thought that behavior was really weird too, but what I found is that it’s really a quirk of the way animals choose attacks in the vanilla game. Your Giganotosaurus is aware that its bite is more dangerous than its kick, so it only uses the kick until it feels that the conflict has escalated sufficiently to use its more lethal move.
Lazer Platypus 5 Jun, 2023 @ 12:52pm
Hey there! Love the mod and been using it for while now. Just wanted to say that I tamed a giganotosaurus and noticed that their natural attacks may not be set up correctly. It seems she defaulted to kicking rather than biting (though to devastating effect). Just thought I'd let you know, as it seemed a little weird.

Enemy Post  [author] 31 May, 2023 @ 8:55pm
I've updated the mod! The animals now use larger tiles when appropriate, so your dinosaurs and megafauna can tower over the surrounding dwarves.
Necroscourge 15 Apr, 2023 @ 12:07pm
DFhack has autobutcher; time to make a velociraptor moat and corner the lizard-chicken market.
Enemy Post  [author] 25 Mar, 2023 @ 8:59pm
@Glitchrider Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for letting me know about the fat thing.
Locksoli 19 Mar, 2023 @ 4:05pm
the new ice age sprites really look gorgeous. Props to Dfn, because I now love this mod even more.
Glitchrider 19 Mar, 2023 @ 11:54am
I forgot - I did some testing of my own. The fat thing is a mod conflict; just Primal allows it, everything else I'm subbed to has the issue. I have no idea which, unfortunately, I've only a quarter thousand of the things installed...
Enemy Post  [author] 18 Mar, 2023 @ 8:24pm
I've released a small update. This week turned out to be much busier than I expected, but I did say that I'd add in Dirtyfatninja's sprites. I haven't been able to do as much as I wanted yet, but the ice age sprites are in.
Enemy Post  [author] 2 Mar, 2023 @ 2:16pm
@Glitchrider Glad you like the mod! I'll look into the fat issue. I think there's a couple reasons the problem could be there, but I'd have to test it to be sure of the cause.
Glitchrider 2 Mar, 2023 @ 10:59am
I can't seem to make soap out of my ankylosaurus farm. After having killed some agitated hatzegopteryz I checked this out - they render fat, but the soap workshop says need fat bearing item. I love this mod though, found it near impossible in ascii but having graphics gives me a fighting chance to pick out the carnotaurs before they reach me.
Enemy Post  [author] 1 Mar, 2023 @ 7:32pm
These look amazing! I didn't expect so many of them to be done! I'm going to be very busy this week and most of next, but after that I should be free for about a week. Can't wait to get these uploaded to the mod!
