@Jimbo_Slice_USA I haven't had any issues with it running since the last Dwarf Fortress update. Do you have any other mods you're using? There could hypothetically be a conflict somewhere that I could look into.

Hmm, that's an interesting idea. I imagine it would be a significant amount of work, and the general point of this mod is to help names stand out, specifically so individual dwarfs are more memorable. Getting an Urist is much rarer, so they'll also stand out.

Is that what you were asking? Just wanting to make sure I actually reply to the question.

it might be a bit of work, but do you plan on adding dwarven translations for applicable words? they stand out a little bit sometimes

FYI, I've released Losta Names v6! This one makes the mod compatible with SEEU'S race mods. I've been working on compatibility with the Lupine Civilization, but that mod has some broken stuff when it comes to names. Luckily, the dev responded quickly and will be fixing that sometime in the future!

However, I've also seen Legends Mode crash from time to time. I'm not sure if it's due to my mod, another mod, or just faults in Legends Mode itself. If anyone has this issue, please let me know - if it's with my mod, I want to figure out how to fix it.

Glad to hear, David! My biggest hope was to be able to quickly and easily tell characters apart, and I also wanted a good laugh.

Honestly man this is beyond excellent. I'm fine with vanilla names but the instant readability of these really helps with learning who's who in a new world or new migrant wave. Appreciate it.

@Vinshenzo You know what? If you wanted to put together a large list of names, I'd be happy to get a separate mod made that uses those. I'm not personally interested in making a list of names like that, but it'd be easy to take what you compile and slap a mod together. Shoot me a DM if you're interested in that.

As an update, I've been playing Dwarf Fortress today with this mod, and it appears to be working correctly with vanilla DF as well as Intro's Kobold Civ. I may expand it to work with other civilization mods if I have time.

Love this mod!

Is the new update messing with it some? I notice other civilizations have random names and dwarve's names seem to be a lot more generic.

I'm okay with a few Urists here and there but I miss my batshit crazy ones.

Dojojo, I'll take a look - likely tomorrow - and see if I can replicate it on my end. I wanted to make it compatible without Intro needing to change anything, so hopefully I'm still able to make it work.

And, as a reminder, it only crashes on Legends mode when looking at historical figures, or when attempting to load historical figures through choosing the subject of art.

I created several different worlds to test it using the default parameters. Every time I load both mods, specifically both, it crashes. When I loaded in the mods separately for new worlds I never crashed, but maybe I'm just unlucky.

Checking here to see if anyone get's any bugs when running when running a world with this mod + kobold civ. I can't look at historical figures or history without the game crashing.

Cool :) Can you delete the "language_ELF" + goblin and human text files, if you don't want these races to use the names?

@Alven That's more or less correct, yes. My own names start at "1-FF," and everything below that should be my own names. Note that you should avoid duplicating anything that's already used as a word in the base game.

Ok, thanks for you reply! I expected it could be difficult to do :)

I had a look on your files, I had hoped it would be easy to modify your name lists, but seems every name is listed 4-5 different places with code. A lot more complex than what I hoped for!

To add a name, is it just to basically copy the code around each name and add at the bottom?

I LOVE this mod, but the ONLY downside is that it breaks map seed generation with the name changes. i cant play my map seed of choice with this Mod added in. is there a way to make it so it doesnt fuck the world creation names?

@Alven @Pally Wal The difficulty here is how names are generated in the base game. I honestly have no clue if a mod can affect children's names at this point - it's possible, but I'd probably have to sit down with someone who's worked on development. All creatures' names are based on pools of random words in the language. I know how to add/remove names from the pool, but I have no clue how you'd get it to choose a specific name.

As for places also getting these names, I think it'd be possible to stop that from happening. There's a specific command in the entity generation that culls names that have specific symbols (like "evil" for dwarves). If you added that command for locations and culled the symbol I added for additional names, that should do the trick.

Also, @Khorne, feel free to copy/paste parts of what I have if it'll help!

Nice mod. Speaking of names, any chance you could add an option for last names to be inherited?

It would make it so much easier to see who's related to who in the fortress. After all last names evolved in human history exactly for this reason, as well as for the authorities to have better overview. Inherited last names would carry tradition and reinforce the player's relation to the dwarves.

@brossentia that's fair and totally understandable i love the names for the dwarves my dwarf being names Luigi is awesome, i just wish the names for people (or some of them) werent included in the list for places/civs getting a civilization called the axes of Luigi is funny but when all of them come out like that it can be a bit much just my comtrustive feedback. anyways love the mod and thanks for putting in qll the time to give us so many names

@Side1iner No worries if it's not for you. It's going to break immersion for some people, but I actually like that (hence the reason I made it). I play it on stream with people giving me silly names, and I wanted that same experience without having to stream.

With that said, name mods are actually fairly easy to make! If you'd like, take a look at files and see if that's something you'd like to do with more vanilla-esque names.

I'd really like some more name variety, but I tried this out for a bit and it wasn't at all a good fit for me. Way to many very goofy names.

Do you plan a toned down version of this? Or does anybody know of a different name mod?

The mod is now compatible with Intro's Kobold Civ! If you want me to make it work with other race mods, please let me know. Kobolds were my priority because they're cute.

Put out a larger update last night and a smaller one today. The large one adds more names and changes how the mod is loaded - I'm hoping these changes make it more compatible with other language mods (though I haven't tried with other mods yet).

The smaller one made some very small changes to names - specifically, I wanted to get rid of a racist-sounding name. Hoping no one is sad for removing that one.

Understandable, 777. Luckily it only takes 10-20 seconds to change the load order, but if you're creating multiple worlds, it gets annoying.

Unit, I think that's a great idea. I focused on dwarf names solely because they're the main playable race. Changing others' names would definitely be doable (and, honestly, could be pretty funny).

Again, this is my first mod, so there's a lot of work I gotta do to make it work better. But I'm happy with how it's going.

Very cool! Can I ask you? Im newbie, see in raw files you create new race on dwarf perents? How about create names on other things, like forgotten beasts, mountains etc. This mod change only dwarf names or it also other names in game? It is good expirients for me look at your raw files!

The fix for now is loading it before the vanilla language files! I plan to work on this so that's not necessary in the future. Thanks!
