@sethaf That's quite interesting to hear. Now you've mentioned this, I'll do some further reading, purely out of personal interest. It occurs to me, if you are deciding whether something gets the war trainable tag, it is always going to be pretty arbitrary. People trained elephants to war, often with the result that, whilst they were terrifying to see massed against you, they often lead to more friendly casualties than enemy ones.

@generallyoverwhelmednewbie Good point. Reading the previous comment I realised I was thinking of African black rhinos. I've just been experimenting with creature art, with the conclusion that I'd probably want to find an artist to collaborate with if I was going to add more rhino species, but if I did, I think that would definitely be somewhere on my creature to-do-list, along with elephants. Another example where one species has been domesticated for millennia, and the other, only briefly and not very successfully.

Part of it is there's more than 1 kind of rhino in the world, with different temperaments etc , tho DF mostly lumps similar critters into 1 species for simplicity's sake

As an example, asian elephants have been domesticated, but not african elephants

while rhinos are classified as ornary there are depictions in southeast asian temples of chariots been driven by rhinos. Also at the time there was rhinos in that place in asia. Its possible that peoples classifications in regard to domestication are BS.
