Aren't there negatives aspects for these secrets, to balance things out? Otherwise these seem a bit OP, no?...

My adventurer learned the secrets of perfect alchemy but does not have the ability to breath fire or alkahest, is this intended?

Actually, I meant to say I had to delete it from both "Dwarf Fortress/data/installed_mods" and "Dwarf Fortress/mods".

Possibly useful note, although I've never uploaded to the workshop and so don't know how it works. Most mods have the main folder in installed_mods named "mod_name (11)" and in the "Dwarf Fortress/mods" folder "2918656118 (11)" where the number in parentheses is the version number without decimals (so 1.1 would be 11). Yours shows up in both places as "(1)" even after updating the latest version, which might be why it wasn't downloading before. I see the version number is updated in the info.txt, but if you have any other way of influencing the directory name that might fix this more generally. Or maybe it's just a workshop quirk.

Yep, that did it. Thanks!

@acymetric Have you checked the installed mods folder? It's in the data folder in the game files, and sometimes you have to manually delete the current version of a mod from there to force it to update.

I love this mod (I use it along with Dwarf Arcana and Sif Muana's Secrets as the base for all my various magic interactions), but can't seem to get the new version to download, even after unsubscribing and resubscribing. Anyone know a way to get around that to see the latest changes?

If you raise drowned in adventure mode (only tested on giant grizzly so far) it seems to just beat the living hel l out of you.

What do the transformation secrets do in terms of mechanics? I took a look in the raws and wasn’t able to figure it out. The main thing I’m wondering is does the creatures size change? If it does I’ll wait until after to make the nicer armor.

Hey, I get the following errorlog quite frequently with this mod:
Unsupported CE remove tag: LIKES_FIGHTING
Unrecognized CE_NECROSIS token: 0
Unrecognized Body Part Group Token: START
Unsupported CE remove tag: LIKES_FIGHTING
Unrecognized CE_VOMIT_BLOOD token: BP

Where should I put this in the mod order?

I see, thanks for the info!

I think the magic being kind of obtuse in its function and requiring you to figure it out is sometimes quite fun, but if you don't want to study the kind of obtuse logs Steel Skin makes the person way tougher and slows them down by 10%, while lead flesh makes them way weaker and more frail and slows them down by 40%. That said, I think you're seeing the health restoring effect. It should go off every few minutes or so and slightly restore the injuries of a nearby dwarf, even ones that won't heal otherwise.

Thanks, another question that has arose from my gameplay; What does the alchemist's ability to transmute flesh into metal even do? Does it heal the person a bit? Does it make them happier? My combat log is often filled with people drinking a potion, their skin shifting and then it ends.

@Diggle
Yep! It's rare during worldgen, particularly for alchemists because they never make towers, but if one arrives in your fortress you can get them to write one easily enough.
Diggle 22 Jan, 2023 @ 5:10pm
Are people with these secrets able to spread them with books like you can with necromancy? ie can a alchemist write down the secrets of alchemy for other dwarves to read and learn?

@Stogie
Thanks, that's the vibe I was going for! I've actually looked into making something similar with a deep one civilization. I'm sure you could change someone's features to be fishlike with a secret or similar effect, but making a creature's offspring different from itself is, as far as I can tell, impossible. I do like the idea though, maybe there's something I'm unaware of that could work.

You're bordering on lovecraftian territory with the Sea and Stars (the good parts, not the racist bits), which I'm immediately very interested in. Have you considered making them develop "fishy" features?

I've no idea if this is feasible, but would it be possible to create a secret that simulates aspects of the Dunwich Horror? Basically they creates a powerful wizard/monster instead of becoming one:

1. Secret-researcher makes a pact with an eldritch god and gives birth to or summons a strange offspring.

2. This offspring appears to be the same species as the parent, but matures and grows extremely quickly. Looks and behaves 20 by the age of 6, and is freakishly tall/strong.

3. They have access to eldritch magics, and will seek to serve their freaky god's will. This involves visiting nearby towns for supplies to secretly summon even greater horrors into the world.

4. All animals dislike their presence and attack or flee on sight.
