Here is my list of changes: https://pastebin.com/ku9urX3p
No more error about the cheese.
Still love them, just not that much a fan of chitinous cheeses :D
*** Error(s) finalizing the creature SALTY_SPIDERHOUND
undefined local creature material set to default: SALTY_SPIDERHOUND CHEESE
It's possible you might be able to create a new material and name it something else such that it isn't cheese. The game is just setting it something it expects it to be.
The most tricky part about eggs is probably that dwarfs pick them up automatically, but I wonder if they still do it if an egg isn't tagged as edible but instead tagged as spidersilk.
@stormwolf sadly I've been very busy the last few months and still have some finishing touches on the graphics file and the custom body parts and reactions. HOwever I hope to have it, as well as a dragon turtle mod out by the end of spring!
Any updates on the bees? I'm hopeful to see them pop up someday!
Could you make it that they lay egg-sacs (that can be spun into silk) instead of giving live birth? Then they probably become my fav pet.
If durability is shown to be a big issue with other players I'll buff them slightly.
I put the above stuff under the [CASTE:MALE] section. Combine with the text files from the other pastebin and it should be good. Feel free to change the names of anything as needed. I initially went with "silk milk" but changed it to spinneret fluid.
I set it so that the males could be milked every 33600 ticks, which is once a month. No idea how that balances out compared to something like collecting cave spider webs in terms of silk production, but my hope was to make it not too OP.
Worked first try!
I didn't even think of just letting it be its own kind of silk. I was trying to get it to come out as cave spider silk and it was just giving me undefined thread.
[USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:SILK:SILK_TEMPLATE]
[WEBBER:LOCAL_CREATURE_MAT:SILK]
Not sure which one actually affects the silk thread product so I kept both for good measure, but without it the thread ended up being made out of chitin.
In my case, both the milk edits and the above creature material edits were placed in the "male" caste section, but that's just personal preference.
Big thank you to SALTY! for this mod, I've had a lot of fun using it and playing around with it.
Sure thing!
I cribbed heavily from the Silk Egg mod, so I'd recommend using that as a foundation if you need help figuring this out. Not sure if it will let me share this link here, but:

You'll need to add two text files to this mod's folder, which I've separated in the pastebin with ====.
The title is the same as the first line in each file.
The only issue with doing things this way is that I *think* it causes spinneret fluid (or "silk milk" or whatever you end up calling it in the spider's files when you make them milkable) to show up as a meal ingredient. But who knows, maybe it's a delicacy.
Would you be able to share your farmer workshop reaction for the silk thread? Making the spider's milkable was pretty easy but I can't figure out the reaction to turn it into thread.
I agree I think Psyanoid did a great job!
Wooo!! Can't wait!
My first foray into megafauna and livestock animals, this critter can be shorn for a regular supply of fuzzy bee wool, butchered for food and fat, and even milked (whether or not I want this to be honey or some other good to be used in reactions is still in the air) you will find them in mountains and caves where the solitary bees dig their homes.
Once again the talented Psyanoid will be providing art.
Stay tuned 😉
