no worries and thank you. The weird cheese is a little disturbing. Love the mod though
SALTY!  [author] 5 May @ 8:18pm
It's been a little over two years since I've given this mod any support. I'm gonna comb through the comments and the patches tpeople have suggested to me this month and get an update out for yall. Sorry for any troubles.
Teefl-ling 3 May @ 5:48pm
I cannot, for the life of me, get this mod to work, the spinneret fluid is milked at the farmer's workshop and all I can do is turn it into chitin that looks like cheese, can't figure out how to *actually* turn it into silk, any tips would be appreciated, thanks
FallenAngel 27 Apr @ 3:59pm
@kyuubicle how do i apply your fix exactly?
Kyuubicle 10 Feb @ 3:34pm
These are adorable looking, but the chitin cheese was annoying me, so I investingated how to fix it... found DLE Glow worm had a 'milk' that wasn't a milk, so I just copied that formatting. Did a little testing and it seems to work.

Here is my list of changes: https://pastebin.com/ku9urX3p

No more error about the cheese.
NorPhi 27 Nov, 2024 @ 12:26pm
@SALTY! Any news on figuring out the cheese thing? I generated a new world and saw there still is a chitin cheese (I don't think dwarfs actually eat it).

Still love them, just not that much a fan of chitinous cheeses :D
everythingrealneon 20 Aug, 2024 @ 8:24pm
in errorlog,

*** Error(s) finalizing the creature SALTY_SPIDERHOUND
undefined local creature material set to default: SALTY_SPIDERHOUND CHEESE

It's possible you might be able to create a new material and name it something else such that it isn't cheese. The game is just setting it something it expects it to be.
Posse Comitatus 17 May, 2024 @ 1:10pm
I went in and changed the Spiderhounds to function with the Silkegg mod and it works great. And dwarves will automatically go for eggs even if they're made of silk. What I do is just watch when I first set up the nesting area and forbid the eggs, and then I will usually just forbid the door to their pen and let them breed for a bit if need be. The spider cheese threw me off too much lmao.
SALTY!  [author] 13 Mar, 2024 @ 4:17pm
@stormwolf422 that's a great idea, I'll be adding some more in depth descriptions on both mods promptly
stormwolf442 13 Mar, 2024 @ 2:19pm
It may be worth detailing the exact differences between males and females for the mod description, and explaining the process of using the products gained from the spiderhounds. I only know what I do from the comments, and I figure others might not go so far as to read them like I did
Weizen1988 10 Mar, 2024 @ 6:03pm
Yeah the spider cheese thing has thrown me off a few times, I just assumed the game classified the spinneret fluid as milk and just went "stuff made of milk is cheese" and called it a day.
SALTY!  [author] 10 Mar, 2024 @ 1:15pm
@NorPhi it is literally cheese, it is a known bug I haven't found the origin of XD
NorPhi 10 Mar, 2024 @ 12:35pm
Not sure if it's known already, but the spiderhound chitin brought by some traders uses the sprite of cheese.

Wooly Mason Bees 1.0 is now live! After seeing your enthusiasm I had the motivation to crank this one out and I'm very happy with it. Please head over https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3175864993 and subscribe and let me know what you think!.
SALTY!  [author] 8 Mar, 2024 @ 11:12am
@NorPhi that's a wonderful idea, I'm gonna tinker with that for a while.
NorPhi 8 Mar, 2024 @ 11:05am
@SALTY! would it be possible to make it an extension mod to this one then? I saw that some of the agriculture mods in the workshop require and extend functionality of other mods.
The most tricky part about eggs is probably that dwarfs pick them up automatically, but I wonder if they still do it if an egg isn't tagged as edible but instead tagged as spidersilk.
SALTY!  [author] 8 Mar, 2024 @ 11:01am
@NorPhi, I'm considering an egg update however I know that eggs can be difficult to manage for new players and I want them to be beginner friendly. Males can be milked for spinnarette fluid and woven into silk! I am considering a balancing change to increase their production.

@stormwolf sadly I've been very busy the last few months and still have some finishing touches on the graphics file and the custom body parts and reactions. HOwever I hope to have it, as well as a dragon turtle mod out by the end of spring!
stormwolf442 8 Mar, 2024 @ 6:18am
@SALTY!
Any updates on the bees? I'm hopeful to see them pop up someday!
NorPhi 5 Mar, 2024 @ 5:23pm
Oh, nice touch with only the females hunting!
Could you make it that they lay egg-sacs (that can be spun into silk) instead of giving live birth? Then they probably become my fav pet.
SALTY!  [author] 5 Mar, 2024 @ 4:07pm
@NorPhi females do!
NorPhi 25 Feb, 2024 @ 3:18pm
Do they hunt vermin like cats and dogs do?
hellosharkness 19 Jan, 2024 @ 2:09pm
This is great!
Hithron 27 Aug, 2023 @ 10:09am
Thanks i'll make sure to get them their own area set up sooner in future :steamthumbsup:
SALTY!  [author] 26 Aug, 2023 @ 3:03pm
Hey y'all sorry I haven't released Wooly Mason Bees 1.0 yet, it has been a crazy time these last few months for me, but you can expect that release by the end of the year. Still working on all of their recipes and reactions.
SALTY!  [author] 26 Aug, 2023 @ 3:02pm
@Hithron I made the females quite aggressive to wildlife, I would recommend keeping an eye on them, as they tend to lose to things blackbear sized or larger. Keep your males in their pens as livestock hope this helps :)
If durability is shown to be a big issue with other players I'll buff them slightly.
Hithron 2 Aug, 2023 @ 3:38pm
I like these little guys but they keep running off and getting into fights with the wildlife and dying is there a reason they do this that i'm not realising ? Cheers
d3rpiusmaximu5 31 Jul, 2023 @ 4:04pm
nvm lol I figured out my stupid
d3rpiusmaximu5 31 Jul, 2023 @ 10:24am
I'm not sure what's wrong but I can't get the mod to work. help? Kinda vague I know but I guess I'm asking for some suggestions. Thanks 👍
SALTY!  [author] 29 Apr, 2023 @ 2:54pm
2.5 is out now! Witch Citrus' silk patch now live!
Psyentific 29 Apr, 2023 @ 6:29am
Spiderhounds are very cute, well balanced, and pretty robust too. Their venom makes them good hunting companions, and they hunt vermin like cats too. Unfortunately, they are not war-trainable nor can they be harvested for edible products (spiderhound milk/cheese, spiderhound eggs, etc.)
Smerg the Dargon 28 Apr, 2023 @ 6:19am
😍 friend located!
stormwolf442 14 Apr, 2023 @ 8:21am
So, would these be a replacement for dogs or cats?
Citrus 29 Mar, 2023 @ 4:38pm
https://pastebin.com/wta52yev

I put the above stuff under the [CASTE:MALE] section. Combine with the text files from the other pastebin and it should be good. Feel free to change the names of anything as needed. I initially went with "silk milk" but changed it to spinneret fluid.

I set it so that the males could be milked every 33600 ticks, which is once a month. No idea how that balances out compared to something like collecting cave spider webs in terms of silk production, but my hope was to make it not too OP.
Citrus 29 Mar, 2023 @ 7:56am
I'd be honored. :)
SALTY!  [author] 28 Mar, 2023 @ 6:10pm
Ad I'm so glad you're having fun with it! :D
SALTY!  [author] 28 Mar, 2023 @ 6:10pm
@Citrus you mind if I just go ahead and fork this into the mod officially? I can credit you for the addition!
Paranoid Punk 28 Mar, 2023 @ 11:09am
@Citrus

Worked first try!

I didn't even think of just letting it be its own kind of silk. I was trying to get it to come out as cave spider silk and it was just giving me undefined thread.
Citrus 28 Mar, 2023 @ 6:53am
Pretty sure you also need to make sure you have this somewhere in the creature file:
[USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:SILK:SILK_TEMPLATE]
[WEBBER:LOCAL_CREATURE_MAT:SILK]
Not sure which one actually affects the silk thread product so I kept both for good measure, but without it the thread ended up being made out of chitin.
In my case, both the milk edits and the above creature material edits were placed in the "male" caste section, but that's just personal preference.

Big thank you to SALTY! for this mod, I've had a lot of fun using it and playing around with it.
Citrus 28 Mar, 2023 @ 6:44am
@Paranoid Punk

Sure thing!
I cribbed heavily from the Silk Egg mod, so I'd recommend using that as a foundation if you need help figuring this out. Not sure if it will let me share this link here, but:
https://pastebin.com/WNVANaX4

You'll need to add two text files to this mod's folder, which I've separated in the pastebin with ====.
The title is the same as the first line in each file.

The only issue with doing things this way is that I *think* it causes spinneret fluid (or "silk milk" or whatever you end up calling it in the spider's files when you make them milkable) to show up as a meal ingredient. But who knows, maybe it's a delicacy.
Paranoid Punk 27 Mar, 2023 @ 5:59pm
@Citrus

Would you be able to share your farmer workshop reaction for the silk thread? Making the spider's milkable was pretty easy but I can't figure out the reaction to turn it into thread.
SALTY!  [author] 25 Mar, 2023 @ 1:09pm
@aurelia ohh
I agree I think Psyanoid did a great job!
aurelia ohh 25 Mar, 2023 @ 5:04am
these spidies are so cuuuuteeeee 💖🕷️🕸️
stormwolf442 10 Mar, 2023 @ 2:59pm
@SALTY!

Wooo!! Can't wait!
SALTY!  [author] 3 Mar, 2023 @ 2:16pm
Announcing the Wooly Mason Bee!
My first foray into megafauna and livestock animals, this critter can be shorn for a regular supply of fuzzy bee wool, butchered for food and fat, and even milked (whether or not I want this to be honey or some other good to be used in reactions is still in the air) you will find them in mountains and caves where the solitary bees dig their homes.

Once again the talented Psyanoid will be providing art.

Stay tuned 😉
SALTY!  [author] 28 Feb, 2023 @ 12:50pm
@Citrus, I'm going to look into that. That's a lot better than the idea I've been toying with.
SALTY!  [author] 28 Feb, 2023 @ 12:50pm
No need for a pasture, or nest boxes! These little ones hunt vermin and give live birth!
stormwolf442 28 Feb, 2023 @ 4:04am
So, we will need nest boxes for these correct? Any suggestions on proper pasture size if that's the case? I know different creatures need different amounts of space...
Citrus 24 Feb, 2023 @ 6:29am
This is a great mod. I've been playing around with it to learn how modding works in DF, and I added silk to only the male spiders by way of milking (spinneret fluid) and by adding a reaction to the farmer workshop to process the liquid into silk thread (similar to the Silk Egg mod). It adds a bit more utility to the males. I'm not sure about how to balance it so I made it so the silk can be gathered from them once a month. I think it's definitely something you should consider adding!
Thrice 7 Feb, 2023 @ 1:33pm
Theres a few mods that allow war training for all animals. It works for this one too.
SALTY!  [author] 7 Feb, 2023 @ 12:05pm
I have one more major update in mind for this project, then I have a second project, and finally the third project involves a warbeast of some kind. Stay tuned!
