note that if the key originally had something bound to it, this does NOT restore those binds, and you must manually rebind.
if the key was bound to a base Garry's Mod bind, you should be able to find it in Options / Keyboard.

I cannot remember what x was bound to by default. don't bind to keys that are already bound next time, and this won't happen again.

if bind isn't working, since it's a built-in source command, the only possibility is that you are inputting the command wrong.
