in 2023 June (one month after AoW4 released) the wyvern patch changed mounted status of some units but as detailed below this mod is NOT totally broken after a total of 4 DLC, only broken for two units with 3 other units needing an update

continued from above

of those units above in my own play I only use 2 chaplain, 3 inquisitor, 3 zephyr archer so what I personally would like to see updated is to make the 3 zephyr archer opt cav as before the wyvern patch. the 3 necromancer has similarly been downgraded since the wyvern patch

2 wildspeaker, 2 evoker, 2 houndmaster were all upgraded after wyvern patch to cav. so to totally fix this mod those three units should be left as cav and NOT downgraded to opt cav

so although this mod is outdated (not updated for DLC's) I will continue to use this mod to mount my chaplain and inquisitor with hopes someone will come along and fix the units needing updates as noted above

just started getting a bug where when a pyromancer attacks with there base attack there model goes out of control and stretches constantly soft locking that fight

That's to be expected. They hold the staff at the very bottom and it looks wonky, then they put it away to do things for more weirdness. Unless there's other glitchiness I'm not aware of.

The animation/modeling stuff is beyond my ken. I figured out how to get hero two-handed weapons to allow mounts, but it doesn't display the mount and I don't know how to fix that either.

Annoyingly, I'm still seeing graphics bugs that date back to AoW3. Heros that attack from mounts have had odd animations and weapon-holding poses (particularly when using handguns/crossbows) and they simply never fixed them.

I think this needs an update as I am getting some graphics glitches with the mounted necromancer.

+1 I was just looking around for a mod that allows, at minimum, heroes with staffs to be mounted

I went looking for the thing that determines if a weapon blocks being mounted. While I think I know which file it's in, for some reason the mod tools won't open it for me in any way in which I can affect it. Oh well. Unless I can figure out why that is, I won't be able to make a "two-handed mounted weapons" mod.

Love the mod! Do you know of any mods that allow heroes to be mounted while wielding staves / any other 2h wep? i want to do a full mounted army run

Personally, I think the mount option should be entirely separate from the body choices. It would be it's own category of choice, with only the "normal" mount giving +10 hp (So you don't feel gimped by not taking a special mount choice) and the specials only getting their neat trick. I have no idea if that level of mod is even possible, because it would be adding in a whole new section to the race creation thing. I don't know if the modding system/tools has enough flexibility to pull that off.

Despite being a humanoid, the Skald is classed as a "Fiend" and doesn't use the same code as "Form" units. Meaning: it's not part of your race, and your race body option is what tells it to have a unit with a mount or not. Sadly, this means you can't just make it gain a mount the same way you can with "Form" units. (Or at least, I don't know how.)

If someone really wanted they might be able to make a mod/copy of the unit with all the same abilities and stats, but also mounted. But it'd probably just have a single mount with no options, or it'd have to be a part of your "Form" for the game code to know how to give it a mount or not. Right now, this is beyond my ability. (I'm only just starting to figure out how to mod stuff.)

Oh thank you so much! I wish mounting your units was base game optional. Like preferably I wish there were two options for each unit, a mounted and unmounted option (at least for infantry, no unmounted cavalry) :steamhappy:

The mounted versions of the units should be more expensive, both in draft and upkeep amount.

"No staff" version is available. Keeping in line with the no-mounts-for-staffs thing for heroes is reasonable.

Would it be possible to get a version of this mod that doesn't add mounts to any of the two-handed staff units? It would line up a bit better with vanilla, as heroes cannot use staffs on mounts. Regardless, thank you for your work.

Ah, yes. I was forgetful. While experimenting I tested the warbreed and yes it can be mounted, but it's silly.

The primary point of the mod was to make it easier to get some mounted units earlier, and actually get some use out of the special mount options. By the time you can get Transmuters and Warbreeds, you should have your T3 units available. I'm also considering making some Cultural T2 units. Probably melee only, as all of the above tome units are ranged/battlemage/support.

There are two more t4 units that will be of your race:
The Transmuter from Tome of Transmutation and the Warbreed but i think the lattter might be problematic for mounts.
