Mounted Tome Units No Staffs

I'm pretty sure it's all for game balance reasons and has little to do with "realism." The "two handed" weapons tend to hit much harder than "one handed" and sometimes have extra effects like an aoe line (Yaka's axe, for instance.) Also having a lot of extra movement on top of that would be the optimal tactic. As it is now, you have to choose between extra mobility or extra attack power. (If you can find one, there are a few lances that fill a similar niche, but they are pretty rare.) (If you want a more detailed conversation on this topic, it'd probably be wise to go to the discussion boards and see what everyone else thinks.)

I really cant understand why some things are not allowed with a horse. Many a knight has used all sorts of weapon on horseback (even the flail, which is a crazy weapon to handle)

The part that makes it "two handed" is actually a thing that says "you cannot have this gear equipped at the same time" which is *like* being two handed but has some useful distinctions. (For instance, bows block shields but not mounts.) There's something else somewhere that says "use this animation set" and that's the part I haven't found.

Isnt it possible to convert alla two handed (since it is those that fs it up) to one handed?

I would love it if you figure it out (Im horrible at modding and have full respect for those who know). I really truly hate that part of the game.

I figured out how to give mounted heroes two-handed weapons, but it resulted in some weirdness I don't know how to address. It allowed the hero to have a mount in equipment, but it didn't show up in combat. The hero still had all the movement and abilities of the mount, but not the model or animations. Presumably I can tell the engine which animation to use while mounted, but I don't know how to find that.

I totally agree with Theorden "Could a mod be made that simply allows heros to use mounted unit...". I truly hate that they have made it as Planetfall. The good thing with AoW III was that you could mix and match however you wanted and I hated Planetfall for that restriction. Hopefully som good modder out there wil fix this.

thanks for a great mod

on the 'with staff' mod page please note with an asterisk which 3 units are considered to be 'with staff'

I incorrectly assumed the difference in the two mods was purely visual, not a difference of 3 units which get the mounted trait (from picking a mounted body trait)

Thank you Dragonblade, without modders the Steam community would be much less than it is. You're an important part of our culture.
Dragonblade  [author] 8 Jun, 2023 @ 8:38pm
That would be a whole other mod, and not within the scope of this one. Might be do-able though. I'd have to look into it.

Could a mod be made that simply allows heros to use mounted units with weapons that say No Mount. It's really annoying, because most of the weapons I get are No-Mount weapons.
Videogamer40000 8 Jun, 2023 @ 12:32am
Fair enough.
Dragonblade  [author] 7 Jun, 2023 @ 11:52pm
I don't think there's much I can do about that. I can only wildly guess what might even cause it. (Something to do with the clothes?) I certainly don't have the know-how to fix the issue.
Videogamer40000 7 Jun, 2023 @ 7:02pm
For both this mod and the main one, the wolf mounts seem to cause the tome units to stretch and distort when they attack. I'm not entirely sure why, but it seems to specifically be the wolf mounts.
Dragonblade  [author] 5 Jun, 2023 @ 12:53pm
This mod doesn't give units with staffs mounts. Try the other one. Also: the game devs are going to add mounts to many of the same units I did, so once that happens these mods will be obsolete.
joel.west 5 Jun, 2023 @ 11:54am
add mounted trait worked for pyromancer but not for chaplain unit
joel.west 29 May, 2023 @ 10:01pm
both the stave and no stave version mounted the correct units. user error
joel.west 29 May, 2023 @ 9:59pm
the encyclopedia does not show these units as mounted as they only are mounted for factions which have a mount as one of their body traits
Dragonblade  [author] 29 May, 2023 @ 9:29pm
That's odd. The version I got through steam (yes, of my own mod. It's useful to see if it's working right for everyone that way) seems to be working right.

Is it possible you were recruiting from another race's city?

The encyclopedia won't show them mounted, it doesn't take into consideration special mounts. Even for things like the Feudal Knight it'll show a default mount and not your special one. I don't think the encyclopedia has dynamic information about the current game.

Thank you for the fix; I can confirm it works. The mod tools seem to work in strange ways for the game; hopefully your internal version can be sorted out eventually. Good luck with that.
Dragonblade  [author] 28 May, 2023 @ 6:49pm
Well, I think I fixed it. Although, now I've got 3 versions of this mod, and I have somehow converted my internal normal one to a no-staff version, but the workshop one seems intact.
Videogamer40000 28 May, 2023 @ 5:32pm
I'm still running into that metadata error. Provided it's not on my side, can this be looked into when you have the time? Thank you.
Videogamer40000 27 May, 2023 @ 9:32pm
Seems to have a missing metadata warning. I thought it was on my side for a moment, but most other mods aren't having the issue, and I tried doing what I could to fix the issue. I also don't recall originally having the issue when I first downloaded the mod.

Neat. Make us able to get a more mounted faction without flooding our recruit list.
